Students, most of the time, fail classes because they are distracted by any type of social media. Students are dependent and fixated to social media which most likely kills their time. ... 1/12/15 Essay Social media has taken the world by storm. It is usually the younger generation that uses social media than any other demographic. It is amazing as to how the Internet is revolutionizing and changing people's lives. For example, social media can be a huge distraction. The internet is a network that allows everyone to become a different person. Also, schools had enough of students abusing social media networks in school. Social media must be banned from schools. The internet has provided our world with different means of communication and access to anyone at any second. The result is led to social network becoming a huge distraction especially towards students. It becomes such an addiction that they aren't able to control it anymore. The Kaiser family foundation reported that children ages 8 to 18 spend approximately 7 or more hours using social media networks and entertainment per day. To make this clear when you add text messaging, the hours soar up to 11 hours a day which is horrible for students. " People are paying more attention to the environmental stimuli at the expense of focus ( Anthony Wagner ) He is trying to say that students today would rather waste their time on social media instead of focusing on the things that will be beneficial to them later in life. This is one reason why social media should be banned. The internet is an easy way for people to escape their reality and create an altered image of themselves online. Social networks give people...

Constant Temptation

...Temptation” Social media has become a constant temptation amongst kids and teens. Whether or not social media should be used as a learning tool in the classroom has become a very controversial topic in the education department. Some administrators and educators have gone as far as banning all social media from being used in the classroom and online, while others have not, and find it very useful. Although there address many views on this topic, teachers and students can benefit from using social media in classrooms. Opposing views claim social media is hindering human interaction. It doesn't help or improve a student's a stability to communicate verbally. However, the benefits outweigh the negatives. Allowing students to interact through social media can work on their ability to work together. It allows them to collaborate in and out out of school. For example, a student that is very shy and doesn't feel very comfortable speaking in front of a whole class may feel more comfortable behind the computer screen. Although social media can be a distraction in the classroom, it is also a distraction from everyday life. Students are on social media just about every hour of the day. Therefore, teachers put themselves at an advantage by using social media. Student's can get help with their homework by posting questions online and getting quick responses. Doing so, allows teachers to get feedback on work and see specific areas of an assignment students need help in. For example, a student can...

I. Introduction: What if every cell phone in the world crashed? How would society communicate? How would one know when someone’s birthday is without getting a notification for it? Some people wouldn’t even know when to get up each morning. Thirty years ago, these questions would be easily answered, but it would have taken separate resources to solve each issue. Most tasks nowadays, however, are done by using this single device. Data Analysis

...Writing Assignment #3 (Data Analysis/Social media) One widely recognized issue that we face these days is the distraction social networking can be when it comes to education. I mean, if biology class is a total drag you are going to want to find something to entertain yourself with for the time being, right? While I agree that a boring class is not the best thing in the world, the information being taught is much more important than what’s being posted on your Instagram or Twitter feed. According to a post on NBC News’ website regarding research on the connection between the average American teen’s attention span with common distractions such as cell phones, text messaging and social networks, and how it affects grades, approximately 47 percent of American high school or college students have either failed one or more classes due to distractions, furthering my point that too much online social activity can be a harmful distraction. Social network overuse can not only affect your academic life, but also your personal life as well. From my own experience, just about anyone getting too comfortable on social networks can definitely serve as a threat to his or her personal well-being. I’ve witnessed many arguments and disagreements on social media leading to physical altercations between classmates. With so many different mindsets and opinions floating around, it is almost impossible to post something without at least one person disagreeing or feeling personally offended...

Technology in Education

...for many students, it also presents challenges. Technology use is changing how people communicate and learn, how they approach learning and how they process information. But I think there are three reasons to worry. Reason one, the technology will be unevenly distributed, meaning that the gap between rich, poor and young, old will actually widen. In today’s academic world, a very noticeable gap exists between the technology teacher’s use in their lesson plans and the level of technological experience most students have. And in most cases, the students come out on top. From social media to computers, students are more ahead of most of their teachers and this may cause many problems when teachers try to both engage their students in the material and stay ahead of their ability to learn. It's true that some teachers have an excellent understanding of technology, but a large percentage of teachers—even young teachers—are lagging behind, technologically speaking, when compared to their students. Even as technology becomes more affordable and internet access seems increasingly ubiquitous, a “digital divide” between rich and poor remains. The rich and educated are still more likely than others to have good access to digital resources. For children in low-income school districts, inadequate access to technology can hinder them from learning the tech skills that are crucial to success in today’s economy. Reason two; Technology is being used as a crutch Students are quick...

Because technology have an impact on the lives of people, this trend has had a negative effect on society, the growth of intelligence and how we conduct business. Social media has offered the world a huge contribution in how cellphones gain a negative effects on society because it effects people communication skills. Cellphones have invented new apps such as: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter etc., that influence people to become more comfortable with texting friends and family rather than indulging a face to face conversation. In the article, “Teens spend a 'mind-boggling' 9 hours a day using media, report says” by Kelly Wallace published in the CNN that proves that teens check social media 100 times and “spend on average 9 hours a day consuming media” (CNN, 2015). Social media has provoke to form a consistent habit as people get older. Using Kelly Wallace as a source, social media can be justified to be distraction towards the world. People cannot educate themselves or prioritize their work ethics if they are checking their social media multiple times a day. The more time people are using social media as a tool to communicate...

Social Networking: Turning the "A" Into a "B"

...By: Zeid Malas Date: 21 Aug 2014 Social Networking: Turning the “A” into a “B” Scrolling through notifications and checking every new message, status update, tweet, picture and video is the first and last thing adolescents do on their daily basis. What most of them are not aware of is with this process, they are altering their “A’s” into “B’s”. However, given to its tremendous popularity and use over time, Social Networking has become a genuine time-waster, social and physiological problems-giver, three of which have a noticeable negative influence on adolescents’ academic life leading to a significant decrease in one’s GPA. Although some have argued that there is no direct-connection between Social Networking and GPA, yet many studies have come to prove otherwise. Throughout time, youth generations have always been able to find distractions and time-wasters to entertain and fulfil their bored minds’ desire of escaping academic work and getting over its stresses. Each generation had different tools of distractions than the ones before it; these tools are usually developed by society and technology as years go by. The latest of those tools nowadays go by the name of Social Networks. Social Networks are a of variety of media such as calling, texting, listening to music, social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Myspace…etc.) and anything related to social media in our current times. Famous social networking sites such as Facebook, are simply websites...
