Have you ever wondered how long it would take to heat up a hot dog in a solar oven? Well this solar oven project is the way to see which type of aluminum foil will heat up the hot dogs the fastest. According to research the thicker that the aluminum foil is the faster the hot dog will heat up, if the conditions are spot on. If the conditions are not spot on then the hot dogs will not be able to heat up fast enough. In this project you will need to look at how to assemble it, the heat and light, and last but not least the conditions. In a solar power oven it is created using cardboard that is painted black. If you are wondering why it is painted black, it is because black is an absorbing color. If you were to be using white paint instead of black paint the sun's rays would not absorb , but reflect. The darker a color is, the more it absorbs, and the lighter a color is the more it reflects. When making a solar oven make sure to paint it black so that it can absorb the light from the sun’s rays. These are the reasons why you should paint your solar oven black. Dr. Kuepper says that the best things you can do are paint it black and put it somewhere where it would get the most light. …show more content…
In order for the earth to sustain human life, it needs light and heat, and here is why. Light is needed so that the plants can grow, because without the plants there would be no oxygen for humans to breathe. When plants absorb carbon dioxide and then turn it into oxygen it is called photosynthesis. Without the heat the earth would be below zero degrees and no human would be able to live there. This is why the sun’s rays are so important that we have them to survive. As Dr. David P. Stern says that the heat from the sun's rays is the way for us to stay

Space Exploration and Everyday Life

...is mad of cheese is good enough for a lot of people and seems to satisfy the masses but I have news for you NASA and the drive of space exploration has given the people of the world more than just the real truth of what the moon is made of. A 1999 Gallup poll found that 18 percent of American adults believed that the sun revolved around earth with 3 percent unsure.(Andrews). Not only that according to a 2004 Science Foundation study 32 percent of adults thought that astrology was either "sort of scientific" or "very scientific".(Andrews). How pathetic is that? There has been a seeming acceptance of ignorance across the board on anything scientific. So no wonder why there is a lack of respect for space and scientific research. Maybe it's the science community's fault for making space uninteresting by taking the human out of it after all we just ended the shuttle program in 2011 leaving American astronauts no choice but to...

...Research Paper Wireless Electricity Imagine the following scenario unfolding. Nick has had a long day at work on Friday and is ready to go home. The whole twenty minute drive home all he can think about is how excited he is to take his family on a weekend trip to the beach. As he pulls into his driveway, he notices that the front light isn’t on like usual, but the fact is quickly lost in his mind as a thousand other thoughts are clamoring for his attention. Just as he steps through the threshold of the door, his phone goes off. It’s his wife. Something’s come up, their daughter isn’t feeling well. She tells Nick that they are at the local hospital and is about to tell him to pick something important up at the pharmacy when his phone dies. Panic sets in. The first thought that leaps into his head is what happened to his daughter. The second is what is he supposed to get to help her. After a couple minutes of searching around his house for a charger, Nick is finally able to call his wife back and discover that he was supposed to pick up the allergy medicine his daughter needs. While this situation may seem a bit more dramatic than a normal situation, dead cellphone batteries, and any battery for that matter, are becoming a familiar headache in a wireless world. But what if this headache had a cure? Imagine that instead of Nick’s phone dying once he got home, it started instantly charging once he entered his house. No cord or cable needed, just wireless...

Senior Thesis - How to Improve the Environment

...Introduction The world is a place for everyone and everything to live comfortably. In order to fulfill this comfort that we are supposed to have, we have to keep a healthy environment. Everything that everyone does affects the environment, in good and bad ways. There are things that go unnoticed in everyday life that needs to be looked at more seriously in order to improve the environment. Recognizing and correcting the problem and promoting the positive aspects will ultimately improve the environment. In order to maintain a healthy environment, society must become aware of how day-to-day activities impact the environment and they also need to be ready to approach and change such lifestyles. So how can we, as individuals, improve the environment? Why When talking about environment related issues, most people just don’t care; they are only doing enough to get by for themselves. The only concerns they have are paying their bills on time, taking care of their family, keeping their job, and being happy. People are contemplating the fact that they are just one person, and the changes they make won’t make a difference so why should it matter. (Savage) If this mind set of people changes then that one person will turn it to hundreds and thousands of people and differences in the environment will start to be seen. There are multiple different reasons on why you should care about the environment and what impacts it. Approximately 40% of deaths globally are cause by pollution, and...

Electricity Generation by Hybrid Biomass Power Plant from Waste for Bangladesh

...Electricity Generation by Hybrid Biomass Power Plant From Waste For Bangladesh Md. Rakibul Islam Monshy Department of Electric Engineering & Computer Science North South University, Dhaka Abstract- Hybrid renewable Biomass Power is becoming popular for remote area power generation applications due to advances in renewable energy technologies and subsequent rise in prices of petroleum products. A hybrid energy system usually consists of two or more renewable energy sources used together to provide increased system efficiency as well as greater balance in energy supply. Hybrid renewable energy systems is one of the most promising applications of renewable energy technologies in remote areas, where the cost of grid extension is prohibitive and the price of fossil fuels increase drastically with the remoteness of the location. It has been demonstrated that hybrid energy systems can significantly reduce the total life-cycle cost of stand-alone power supplies in many situations, while at the same time providing a more reliable supply of electricity through the combination of energy sources. Applications of hybrid systems range from small power supplies for remote households providing electricity for lighting or water pumping and water supply to village electrification for remote communities. Mixed combinations of renewable energy systems are also possible, that is applications where different renewable energy technologies are applied in one location without the systems being...

... Energy resources with low or negative net energy need help to compete in the marketplace •  Any energy resource with a low or negative net energy ratio cannot compete in the open marketplace with other energy alternatives with higher net energy ratios unless it receives financial support from the government (taxpayers) or other outside sources of funding. –  For example, the low net energy yield for the nuclear power fuel cycle is one reason why many governments throughout the world must heavily support nuclear power financially to make it available to consumers at an affordable price. Section 13-2 WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF FOSSIL FUELS? Fossil fuels supply most of our commercial energy •  The direct input of solar energy produces several other forms of renewable energy resources that: wind, flowing water, and biomass. •  Most commercial energy comes from extracting and burning nonrenewable energy resources obtained from the earth’s crust. –  87% from carbon-containing fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, and coal). –  6% from nuclear power. –  8% from...
