Sorrowful and unrequited love are very similar types of love, expressed in poetry when a poet is feeling sad or has lost someone. Wind and Window Flower by Robert Frost and When We Two Parted by Lord Byron are two poems that express this type of love. In the poem Wind and Window Flower by Robert Frost the poet talks about unrequited love rather than sorrowful. The poem explores not being able to be with someone and losing them forever. The word “Breeze” and “Flower” are repeated many times throughout the poem and this emphasizes the fact that the people cannot be together. Likewise When We Two Parted by Lord Byron also uses repetition to convey the theme of sorrowful/ unrequited love. When We Two Parted by Lord Byron is about losing someone after cheating and having to be alone in silence. Throughout the poem the words “silence” and “Tears” are repeated. “In silence and tears’” and “With silence and tears.” are at the beginning and end of the poem. The repetition of the words also emphasise the fact the poet is alone and is sad. Silence refers to not being able to talk about feeling or quit or the wife would find out and tears express sadness much like in Wind and Window Flower.
