2. Introduction
2.1 Smart Home Control System “The smart home is a home that incorporates advanced automation systems to provide the inhabitants with sophisticated monitoring and control over the building's functions.” (SMART HOME ENERGY, n.d.) The smart home is house or home that control or remotely the home electronic devices or gargets by entering a single command in the smartphone or computer. Besides, the smart house control system enables to house owner control their home’s curtains and doors, temperature of the house, lighting of house, entertainment system and others by using a smartphone or computer. The system also will provide the security system to secure the house such as alarm system and contain the security feature, which is login system. “As smart homes become more affordable due to economies of scale, more people will realize the numerous benefits of programming a home. Smart homes are not the wave of the future, but instead a staple of the present.” (ebay, 2014)

2.2 LabVIEW The smart house control system is implement by using the Lab VIEW software. Lab VIEW or Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench, is features an easy-to-use graphical programming language which connecting the functional nodes via wires through which data flow. Lab VIEW is differing from traditional programming language such as Java, C, C++ and others. It is also a program development and executive system that widely used by engineers and scientist. The Lab VIEW software also supports different types of operating system such as Windows, Mac OS, Linux and others. In addition, the graphical programming language of LabVIEW, the graphical block diagram will compile into the machine code. This software can simplify the complexity by building the control system in a short time. LabVIEW also design software integrates with any hardware with convenient features with a short development time. So, the hardware with the control system can design on time and under budget by using power of LabVIEW with modular. Lastly, Lab VIEW also can help the user to design the user interface quickly by using drag and drop control. This software also can deliver extensive acquisition, analysis and presentation capabilities to allow the programmer seamlessly to develop a complete solution on platform. The Lab VIEW can help the user to create custom user interface in a dramatically less time compare to the traditional programming language.

3. Project Requirement
3.1 Project Requirement fulfilled by using LabVIEW The project requirement is produce with LabVIEW programming language to design the prototype of the control system to be installed in the house, which can be called as smart home control system. This prototype is required to have an approximately designed front panel to provide the user with a clear picture of what the system does. There are various devices that are controlled by the system that could control features including curtains, television control, lights and doors. The television needs to be configured with a complex set of functions since it has more parameters such as switching it on and the off, the volume control, picture adjustment and other suitable functionality. Also, the system need to design in such a way to allow the user to turn on and off the lights and doors as well as control the curtains of their house. Furthermore, this assignment also made it compulsory to have a central control keypad that allow the user of the system to enter in login credentials; the username and password registered into the system to gain access to the system. This project also requires an interface with a table or file to store and retrieve the details of authorised users of the system. All the devices in the house must be equipped with motors or sensors that allows the devices to be controlled through a network; TCP or IP. Not only that, the smart home control system also is to be designed in two separate modules. The system needs to designed in the main control unit of the first module. The first module should include a control keypad and devices status. For instance, a simple onscreen LED and the function of the system that can be performed is the first module. On the other hand, the second module needs to be applied on another PC and it should contain the diagrammatic illustration of the devices’ status. Moreover, this project requires the system to have a link with the network environment. The system also needs to be designed to allow the main module to connect or communicate with the second module over a TCP or IP. The sockets programming is required for the connection for TCP or IP of this system. Lastly, the entire requirements of this assignment can fulfilled and completed using LabVIEW as it contains all the necessary functions that is needed to develop and complete the required project.
3.2 Why should I Use LabVIEW? The reason to use LabVIEW for this assignment is because it is an easy to learn programming language and engineering tools. This software brings a lot of benefits academically and professionally to a student who had learnt the fundamentals of using LabVIEW. By using the graphical representation of LabVIEW to develop a system or application, it helps the students to reduce the learning curve difficulties. The reason for this is that the graphical programming language will more intuitive for design notation than the text-based code; hence, students will enjoy it more. In addition to that, LabVIEW is easy to learn and be used because it is an intuitive graphical programming language for faster development as it allows the user to drag and drop the VIs into a diagram and define the behaviour of the applications. The point-and-click function help the users of this system to conserve time as well as finish the initial setup for the specific solutions. The programmers who have has the wide experience and knowledge with the wide accepted tools can help benefit even more to increase their marketability and effectiveness in their future workplace. This is such because LabVIEW is used by different range of industries such as telecommunication, semiconductors, biomedical and others. (National Instruments, 2014) Moreover, LabVIEW has complete functionality because it has thousands of built-in signal and they contain more than 200 signal processing and math functions with full programming language. (National Instruments, 2013) The execution speed of LabVIEW is faster than a complied C programming language and the programmer is given the freedom to develop a system across any operating system he or she desires; such as Windows, Macintosh, Linux and others. Furthermore, LabVIEW also integrates with the I/O capabilities. All the integrations have data acquisition devices for the Ethernet, USB, PCI, PCI Express and PXI. There are thousands of instrumental drivers for more than 250 vendors and it is fully integrated with the commercial off-the-shelf hardware. (National Instruments, 2013)

3.3 How does LabVIEW work? LabVIEW is a software that can create one or more virtual instruments (VIs). The virtual instrument has an appearance and operation that often imitate the actual physical instruments. The analogous to the main program and functions are mostly from Programming Language such as C or Basic. The VIs can mainly be divided into 3 parts, which are front panel, block diagram and icon. (Jeffrey & Wells, 2002)
3.3.1 Front Panel
The front panel is the integrative user interface of the VI. The front panel’s ideal function is exactly what its name is; it simulates the front panel of the physical instrument. The front panel can contain Boolean, Numeric, Graph, String and other controls and indicators. The ways for user to input the controls in LabVIEW are by using a mouse and/or keyboard and the result will be shown and produced by the program on the screen of the computer. (Jeffrey & Wells, 2002)

Figure 2: Front Panel

3.3.2 Block Diagram
The VI’s source code is called block diagram. Block diagram is an actual executable program and it’s also LabVIEW’s own graphical programming language called, ‘G’. The block diagram contains lower level of VIs, which has built-in function, constants and program execution control structures. A user can connect the wires with the appropriate object to define the data flow between them. On the block diagram, the front panel objects will have the corresponding terminals to allow the data to pass from the user to the program and back to the user again. (Jeffrey & Wells, 2002)

Figure 3: Block Diagram
3.3.3 Icon
The icons and connectors are used in the VI as a subroutine in the block diagram of another VI. The icon represents the VI’s pictorial and can be used as an object in the block diagram of another VI. When a VI becomes a subVI, the connector is used to connect the data into the VI from the block diagram and identify the inputs and outputs of that specific VI. 5. Protocol Design
5.1 The Internet and Client-Server Model The definition of the Client-Server Model is a “distributed communication framework of network processes among service requestors, clients and service providers.” (Janssen, n.d.) The connection of the client-server is established through Internet. The clients can include web browsers, email software and others while the server can include database, messages, applications, e-mail and others. The function of client is to request the data or process and subsequently handle the processing. The function of server is to manage the process and store the data and transmit the data to the client. The client processes the request information from the server and gets the response from the server. After the client gets a respond from the server, the client process can be stopped or it could start another processing cycle. The server processes in such a way that it receives the request from the client and start the required processing and gather all the data to be send back again to the client. After it has been completed, the server will be alert and it will be ready to receive another process from clients. (tutorialspoint, n.d.) Another important thing is the client need to know the existence and specific address of the server but server does not precisely require it as the address or existence of client is prior to the connection being established. The client and server can send and receive information after the connection has been established. (tutorialspoint, n.d.)

5.2 Using TCP/IP with LabVIEW
IP is Internet Protocol and TCP is Transmission Control Protocol. Both of them are the fundamental tools for network communication and can be used as protocols with LabVIEW on all sorts of operating system platforms. This TCP and IP protocols in LabVIEW can be used to create and be applied in clients or server of VIs. The computer also can function either the client or server.
The TCP or the IP can help the user to communicate over through the single network or an interconnected network. Large geographical distances can separate the individual networks. The TCP/IP can apply in most computers to transfer the information among the system or devices. (National Instruments, 2006) The TCP or IP communication has a simple and neatly user interface to ensure the reliable network communication.
The protocol function is located at Functions » Data Communication » TCP palette of LabVIEW. (National Instruments, 2006) The TCP involves the process of read, write, listen, open and close connection, IP to String, string to IP and others.

Figure 11: TCP

5.3 Control Interface - Client Connection
5.3.1 TCP Open Connection

Figure 12: TCP Open Connection
The TCP Open Connection opens the network connection with the address and remote port or service name. The 2200 are the remote port or service name. It is the port or the name of service and it can accept either numeric or string inputs. The 60000 is the timeout milliseconds which specific the time into millisecond as well as functions to wait to complete and return the errors. The 60000 is a default value and it represents 1 minute. The green line is connection ID that is the network connection which identifies the TCP connection. The yellow line is error out and it contains error information and provides the standard error out functionally. (National Instruments, 2010)
5.3.2 TCP Write

Figure 13: TCP Write
The function of TCP Write is to write the data to the TCP network connection. The pink colour line is data in. Data in will contain the data that the user wants to write in the connection. (National Instruments, 2010) There are 2 TCP Write in the system as one of them is for string length and another is for data string and the data that need to send to server.

5.4 Indicator Interface - Server Connection
5.4.1 TCP Listen VI

Figure 14: TCP Listen VI
The function of TCP Listen is to create the listener to accept the TCP network connection with the specific port. The 2200 is the port number that the user wants to listen for the connection. The -1 is timeout millisecond which specifies the time in millisecond and wait for the connection from the client. The default value is ‘-1’ because it indicates to wait indefinitely. The VI will complete and return to error if the connection is not established in the specific time. (National Instruments, 2010)
5.4.2 TCP Read

Figure 15: TCP Read
The TCP Read is to read the number of bytes from the connection of TCP and return the result to the data out. (National Instruments, 2010) There are 2 TCP Read applied in this system because one of them functions as read the number of bytes that is send from client and another TCP Read is used to read the content and data that has been send from the client.

6.4.3 TCP Close Connection

Figure 16: TCP Close Connection
The TCP Close Connection is functioned to close a TCP network connection. The green line that is the connection ID is the network connection indicator and it identifies the TCP connection that user wish to close. The yellow line on the left is error in which describes error conditions that occur before this node runs and the yellow line at right represent error out. (National Instruments, 2010)
5.4.4 Clear Error VI

Figure 17: Clear Error VI
The clear error is to reset the error status to be no error and code into 0 as well as make the source become an empty string. The VI always uses this to ignore the error in the system. The yellow line represents error in (no error) and describes the error condition that occurs before the node runs. (National Instruments, 2010)

6. Hardware Research
NI USB-6008
The NI USB-6008 has the function of DAQ for the application such as simple data logging, portable measurement and others. The USB-6008 is included with a software to take the measurement from the program that is designed by LabVIEW. The USB-6008 contains 8 analog inputs (12 bits, 10kS/s), 2 analog output (12 bits, 150S/s), 12 digital input and output and a 32 bits counter. (National Instruments, n.d.)

Figure 18: USB-6008
Touchpad
The touchpad is used to display the interactive image of the user interface to the user of the smart home system. The touchpad allow the user to monitor the condition of their home and control their house by entering into the smart home control system that is installed on the touchpad.

Figure 19: Touchpad

Day and Night Vision Camera
The wireless day and night vision camera that can enhance the security features of a house. The wireless camera has two image sensors which is one a colour sensor and another a monochrome sensor. The colour sensor is used for daytime and the monochrome sensor is used for the night. The camera has high resolution capturing capabilities and is able to capture clear images as well as it has a wireless network connectivity feature to export captures immediately.

Figure 20: Day & Night Vision Camera
Electronic Door Lock
An electronic door lock can also be added to a smart home system. The electronic door lock has a keypad which enables keyless entry. The door lock integrates seamlessly into the smart home system and the user is able to control and remote it by using the touchpad, smartphone or a computer.

Figure 21: Door Lock
Monitor Sensor
The monitor sensor is another additional hardware that could be used in this system. The monitor sensor can detect movement; a person entering a room and it will turn on the applications such as the lights in the room automatically. The monitor sensor can also trigger the alarm.

Figure 22: Monitor Sensors
Smart Thermostat
The smart thermostat can be used in this system and be integrated to control the air-conditional units in the smart home. The user can control or set the temperature of the air-conditioning units of the house using this thermostat. The smart thermostat also could be remotely used via a smartphone or through web control centres.

Figure 23 Smart Thermostat

7. Extra Features
7.1 Alarm

Figure 24: Alarm in Client

Figure 25: Alarm in Server
The alarm allows the user of the smart home to control the system to set the time and ring at the specific time. In the client page, user chooses a specific time that he or she wishes and then selects ‘SET’ to activate it. The inserted time in client will be send to server and the alarm will ring at the specific time chosen. If the user wants to stop the alarm, the user can do so by press the ‘STOP’ button. If the user wishes to reset the alarm again, the user needs to click the ‘RESET’ button then set a new alarm.

7.2 Smart Control

Figure 26: Smart Control
The smart control is to allow the user of the system to turn on or off a specific light in the house at a time of the user’s liking. The main reason to design this feature is the smart control can help the user open and close the light automatically at the specific time when user is not home for instance. When the user set the start time and end time in the client, the system will send the data to the server. Upon it reaching the specific time that has been set, the system will turn on or turn off the light automatically.
7.3 Multiple User Login

Figure 27: Multiple User Login
The smart home control enables the user to add more than login to the system. There are one default login details to the system; works like an administrator. The user then can add in more login ins for family members or other housemates for instance. The reason to design this system for multi user to login is so that there will be a specific login credential to a specific user accessing the home or staying there.

7.4 Master Control

Figure 28: Master Control
In the master control, the user can turn on or turn off all the lights of the house and open or close all doors of the house with just 1 switch. The user of the system also can adjust the width of the curtain in a slider format in the master control. Also, the user can control the air-conditional unites in the house by choosing the desired temperature in the master control tab.

8. Assumption The assumption for this assignment is, when the time of alarm and smart control is send from client to server, the time will delay for 10-30 seconds. The time in the client will be faster than the time in the server and it will cause the server to show the result late. Moreover, the user of the system always needs to reset the alarm first before they set up the new alarm. If the user wants to close one of the appliance that is available in master control, the user needs to use the switch in the specify a selection. This is because the devices that are open in master control does not change the specific buttons. Hence, the user needs to repeatedly close existing opened switches before he or she could open a specific switch again.

9. Limitation The limitation of this system is that the system and all the devices in the house are fully dependent on electrical energy. This is such as most of the devices are electronic devices and it is unable to run without electricity. Besides, the cost for building up the whole system and implementing it with all the devices in the house is costly to say the least. This would make a lot of people edgy to apply this advanced technology in their respective homes. Moreover, this system has limited security features and there are a lot of improvements in security that needs to take place. The firewall of this system is weak and the username and password can easily be crack by others. In addition to all that, there are still a lot of devices such as water heater, washing machine, smart refrigerator and others that can be implemented in this system. By adding in a water heater, smart refrigerator and washing machine, the user of this system can conserve more time and it will be even more convenient to the user.

10. Future Enhancement * In the future, the system can be designed with the smart home camera. This allows the user to capture on record every entrance in their house. This system also can help the user to monitor and ‘keep an eye out’ for children or senior citizens who are in the house. With the camera, the users can also witness in real time any mishaps in the house ranging from burglary to family monitoring. * The automation of turning on and off a light, fans and air-conditional units can be applied in this system for the distant future. The system will auto detect the specific person and suit the surrounding of the house to the liking of that person upon their entry to the house. When there is no one detected at home, the system will turn off the devices automatically. This system should be designed a lot more advanced to make the user of this system more convenient. * In future, the smart home control system can connect to the smart refrigerators. By entering the smart home control system, the user can view catalogue, suggest menu and suggest grocery list from the smart refrigerators. * Intelligent Personal Voice Assistant such as ‘Siri’ by Apple can also be applied into the system. The Intelligent Personal Voice Assistant will allow voice commands and voice-based quires. It can fasten the process of the user requesting something to the system. * Also, the system can be enhanced with deeper security features which would allow the user of the smart home control system to login into their account by using fingerprint or touch ID as their passcode. The touch ID can provide a high level of security and provide the accurate match for the user of the system. The fingerprint sensor can be adjusted and created for multiple user logins too based on the criteria. * The smart home control system should design and create with cheaper cost so that the system can be sold in a lower price. With a cheaper price, more people will able to buy this system and apply it at home at the future.

11. Conclusion In a nutshell, “smart homes are no longer a trendy purchase, nor are they the vision of a science fiction author.” (ebay, 2014) The smart home control system is very useful in the daily life. This system is designed to be simple to use by using the driven control such as smart phone, computer and remote control. This system also makes the relationship between people and computer more reasonable. The smart home control system can help the user to have the probability to save energy costs by reducing the waste in utility. This system also helps the user to conserve their time as the system can be centralized and be control easily. Last but not least, there are still a lot of improvements to make this Smart Home Control System even smarter. To make this system become more powerful, adequate amount of researches and system compilation as well as testing need to be carried out.

...Abstract This report aims to make a comparison of the Chinese and Indian power sector in terms of progress and reforms they have made to deal with their increasing demand requirements. The comparison of India was made with China because, India, when just independent, was much similar to China in terms of demographics and infrastructure availability. The power sectors of both the countries are studied and the differences are probed into. Much of these differences come in as a result of the way in which reform bodies were instituted and the reforms were carried out in both the countries. China has surged far ahead of India in its quest to satisfy the demand for power. Through this study, the authors wish to draw out the underlying methods through which China has achieved considerable success in power sector reforms. There are four ways in which China went ahead of India and which can be replicated in India. These are the way in which the power monolith was broken down in such a way that there was coordination among various bodies concerned, the way in which various projects were financed and approved through BOT, the way in which China has been emphasizing on production and conservation of power efficiently through market based incentives and the way in which it has been sensitive towards environmental issues by research and adoption of clean, less polluting technologies. The authors feel that these are the significant learnings, which one can take home and apply in India. ...

Effective Communication

...Communication is the major connection of this world. When communicating, there are two main forms of communication; Verbal and Non Verbal. Communication is defined as the process of creating and sharing meaning through the use of symbols (Dobkin-Pace, 2010). Communication shaped the person that you are and gives you a distinct identity. There are certain channels and contexts that are very important to the communication process due to the means of delivery or transportation. Also your environment and culture has an enormous influence on your communication skills. AS communicators we are improving our skills of communication every day. Verbal communication is messages expressed through formal language. It can be oral, written, or even signed and still can be verbal as long as words are involved. Nonverbal communication is messages expressed through symbols rather than words. Nonverbal communication can include hand gestures, facial expressions, touching, the inflection of your voice, the clothes you wear, and even silence. For example if someone ask you a question but rather than verbally answering, your facial expression gives the answer to the question. Before any messages can be exchanged there has to be a type of delivery or transportation called channels. Channels are the mediums that carry messages between communicators. (Communication in a Changing World, 2nd Edition. MBS Direct p. 24). The choice of a channel is an important part of the communication situation...

Assignment 04

...South Piedmont Community College Scholarship Essay Financial Needs I am a student at SPCC. I just decided to go back to school this semester to advance my career. I was told that I no longer qualify for federal grants, so I am looking for a way to pay for college. School is very important to me and I enjoy learning. I am a mother of 3, with a child on the way. My Fiancé works at Mt Mariah Baptist Church in Matthews NC and does not bring home much. I work at Time Warner Cable and also do not bring home enough to afford school without financial assistance. My classes for the Fall semester is about a thousand dollars and that does not include the four books that I have to buy, which will average out to about $150 a book. I decided to go back to school after taking a good look at my future at the current company that I work for. All the advancement opportunities require a bachelor degree or better. I plan on transferring to UNC and completing my bachelor there. It seems like the most logical way to go, instead of wasting all that money on all these new online schools that credits most likely won’t transfer. I have tried to go to online schools like Strayer University, ECPI, and Kaplan. Even though I was focused and determine, I eventually realized that these types of classroom settings was not for me and that the cost of these schools were too expansive. They swallowed up all my grant money and I still had to get loans to cover the remaining balance of school. That is...

Description Abstracts are usually much briefer then informative abstracts and provide much less information. Rather than summarizing the entire paper, a descriptive abstract functions more as a teaser, proving a quick overview that invites the reader to read the whole. And last but not least Proposal Abstracts contain the same basic information as informative abstracts, but their purpose is very different. You prepare proposal abstracts to persuade someone to let you write on a topic, pursue a project, conduct an experiment, or present a paper at a scholarly conference. ...authorities to be on the path towards delinquency” (Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, 2013). They were created and designed by the child savers to target youth who showed signs of delinquent behavior. Houses of refuge were located in impoverished or urban areas. They eventually became overpopulated because it, like adult prisons, was housing delinquent juveniles with not form of rehabilitation. A new plan of action had to take place to correct this system. ...1. Examine how Congress writes environmental laws and EPA provides the technical, operational, and legal details needed to carry them out. At least 1/2 page summary A number of laws serve as EPA's foundation for protecting the environment and public health. However, most laws do not have enough detail to be put into practice right away. EPA is called a regulatory agency because Congress authorizes us to write regulations that explain the critical details necessary to implement environmental laws. In addition, a number of Presidential Executive Orders (EOs) play a central role in our activities http://www3.epa.gov/region9/enforcement/intro.html Under the Congressional Review Act (CRA), a rule generally cannot take effect until EPA submits a rule report to each House of Congress and to the Comptroller General of the United States (head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office). Rules that are not considered "major" under the CRA, may take effect as they otherwise would under other applicable law once a rule report is submitted. A rule that is "major" may take effect no earlier than 60 calendar days after Congress receives the rule report or the rule is published in the Federal Register (FR), whichever is later. The CRA also provides procedures by which Congress can rescind a rule within a specified period of time using expedited procedures. 2. Go to http://www.epa.gov/.
