...I often think of critical thinking as when someone is thinking very clear with complex ideas. They think about what to do and what to believe. Critical thinking involves you analyzing concepts deeply as on the other hand just regular thinking doesn’t cause you to think much. It is more to critical thinking than just using common sense. I think someone with critical thinking skills are able to understand connections between ideas. Critical thinking in my own words are seeing as a discipline process or organizing and synthesizing information to evaluate the information appropriately. Conceptualizing is a form of an idea or picture in your mind. I think that this word relates to critical thinking because even though you are trying to picture an idea in your mind, you still have to consider that you are using some form of thinking skill. Conceptualizing is still a form of thinking through and seeing beyond ideas of your own mind. Some ways to explain the meaning of conceptualizing is thinking for yourself, bringing new ideas to life, creative thoughts and seeing things fresh. Next, analyzing is to critically examine and to separate a material or abstract entity into constituent parts or element. Another definition of analyzing that I was better able to understand is breaking down the text or problem that you are examining in order to understand each individual part. Analysis is like breaking down a chemical to look deeper into the individual compounds that...

...Decision Making: It’s Not What You Think Decision Making: It’s Not What You Think Henry Mintzberg, MIT Sloan Management Review (2001) This essay’s purpose is to summarize Henry Mintzberg’s and Frances Westley’s article about decision making and possible approach methods that individuals and organization can choose to be used in problem solving depending on the nature of the issue. The first part will sum up the main ideas of the article, including main theories and practical advises that the authors are recommending. The second part of the essay will present some criticism towards the article and its theoretical framework and arguments. Main ideas and a summary of the theory Decision Making is a traditional area of interest in every business school and company. How are decisions actually made? Are they rational or just products of individuals’ personal opinions? Should they even be based on what is called as rational thinking? Henry Mintzberg and Frances Westley tried to tackle this problem of how decisions should be made in their essay Decision Making: It’s Not What You Think, published in MIT Sloan Management Review (2001). They challenge the traditional approach of logical problems followed by step-by-step solutions. The researchers argue that there are a whole bunch of different types of problems in need of different approaches. The common type of decision making follows a clear pattern. First step would be defining the problem. Secondly, one needs to diagnose the...

That is why I believe that the author thinks that people should think before they act. By how she acts normally, and how she changes, you can tell the author must’ve wanted something mental to be going on inside of Waverly’s head. Waverly thinks before she acts at the beginning. ”Having watched the other children opening their gifts, I already knew that the big gifts were not necessarily the nicest ones. ...You have a mind so hear is a quote from Inherit the Wind, Rachel said,” Bert left the church, but he didn’t abandon God.” Do you believe that you can serve god but not attend the church. You might say no or yes, there is no problem in thinking no for all we know god gave us a mind to think for ourselves. The choice is yours to think but I think that Bert can still serve god and not attend church. There are ways to deny god but many ways to let god into your life and follow him or serve. One way or reason that Bert still serves god is by the Ten Commandments that got made as his rules to be loyal or serve god, even one can mean you still serve god. The most important way to serve go dis to keep him above everything else. This relates to Bert because he still serves god as loving in him still after teaching the Evolution theory, and not using his name in vain....

...choice to have positive thoughts of success and to not focus on the negative thoughts. Canfield decided what he wanted to become in his life. He set his mind and thoughts on nothing else, but that goal. The greatest teachers that have ever lived have told people of the power of positive thinking: poets from William Shakespeare, Robert Browning, and William Blake to great thinkers including Socrates, Plato, Sir Isaac Newton and Pythagoras. Greatness does not limit itself to a certain kind of person. There are many facts through out history that support the idea of having positive thoughts, and with those thoughts, bring positive results back to the thinker. It is very clear that - Positive Thinking will lead to having positive results. The Law of Attraction states like attracts like. In the book The Secret, Rhonda Byrne describes The Law of Attraction. Byrne breaks down the law’s principles in more detail and explains the power of positive thinking. Byrne states, “Everything that’s coming into your life you are attracting into your life. And it’s attracted to you by virtue of the images you’re holding in your mind. It’s what you’re thinking. Whatever is going on in your mind you are attracting to you” (4). The Secret, explains that energy surrounds a thought, and through energy the thought becomes the reality. It doesn’t matter the person, or the location of that person, The Law of Attraction is forming an entire life experience regardless of who it is. This all powerful law is...

...Critical Thinking Critical thinking occurs when a person thinks about a subject or problem to where the improvement of the quality of ones own thinking using skillful analogies, then assessing and reconstructing them. A few important skills that is learned through critical thinking is learning how to discipline oneself in thinking, understanding the world as well as learning themselves. Critical thinking in the business world has many benefits in the process of decision making by employers as well as employees. The manager faced a problem at RSc a few weeks back when an employee came to work half drunk. The employee had not been drinking that morning but was still drunk from the night before; he was doing his work and not acting much different from usual. However, you could smell it on him three feet away no matter what the manager tried, such as having him brush his teeth, chew gum, Etc. It is very busy this time of year and the employee was needed very badly at work to help on the front counter helping customers and answering phones. The manager sit back and watched him during the first 30 minutes after the doors were open and was thinking of a way to keep him at work but not be noticed for the reason that it was so busy and having him work in the back or sending him home could put more work on the other employees. However, keeping him there could get the employee into trouble along with the manager for having him up front while smelling of beer working with customers and...

...I’m sure you all know why we are here today. Yep that right, it’s that time…class of 2015, it’s our time, it’s our time to finally sit in these chairs, to wear these caps and gowns, to be handed a diploma, and to say our goodbyes. Now as I was sitting down trying to figure out how I was going to write this speech, the only thing that came to my mind was playing basketball. Now why would I be thinking about basketball at this time? I mean come on were about to graduate and here I am thinking about a game! But then it hit me, high school in some ways is a lot like a basketball game. Both are hard, challenging, difficult, and by the end, you’re relieved that its over. Now just imagine, you are warming up for the game, you have all those nervous butterflies dancing around in your stomach, you are scared that you might mess up and get pulled out of the game. Now imagine being in the middle of the court, waiting for the ref to throw the opening tip, your Adrenaline is at its highest, you see the ref throw up the ball, the players tip it, and all of the sudden your off running to one side of the court, the easiest yet the most terrifying part of the game. If you think about it, this is a lot like our freshmen year. You have no idea what is in store for you but you know that you just have to play and get that first year done with. Now back to the game, you have just finished that first quarter and you’re thinking this isn’t too bad but then you hit that second quarter and you can start...

...who are the enlightened? Better still, What is true enlightenment? Since Kant states that true enlightenment is ones courage to use your own reasoning without direction from another, the answer is simple; we who chose to be self-thinkers are already enlightened(Kant, 263). Kant explains that the issue of Enlightenment is not if you have the means to reason for yourself. Since we all have an inalienable right to be self-thinkers, the issue instead lies in ones courage to do so. Throughout his work, Kant shows the way that anyone can be Enlightened. So many people up until the Enlightenment period of the 18th and 19th centuries, made excuses as to why they did not think as an enlightened thinker. Kant spoke of the majority at this time that “a book which understands for me, a pastor who has a conscience for me, a physician who diets for me…I need not trouble myself. I need not think.” What he speaks of here makes perfect sense. If all of your life you chose to remain as a pawn to move only in the way you know, then a pawn is all you will ever be. You will have lived a mindless, helpless, life of tutelage because you’ve been afraid of what may lie off the path chosen for you. Like “the dumb cattle who will not dare take a single step without the harness of the cart to which they are tethered, the guardian then shows them the danger which threatens if they go alone.” So to all afraid of taking a step without the harness of your tutelage, you are as the cattle who will never...

...Critical Thinking The principles of critical thinking have open a giant door to a more credible thinking. Does having a college degree improve your career opportunities? You got to ask yourself the question but that is not the only question like it states on the book asking the right question when looking for information “why should I believe it” (ch7, para5). That is one of the most important think you have to ask yourself it’s important to make sure that the information you are gathering is credible and not just some opinion. When using critical thinking it important not to use your own bias opinion if not you’re not even thinking. When you find your credible sources you got to evaluate the arguments presents. I used my principle of critical thinking skills to find the answer for my question, after I had gather some information I made sure that it came from a credible source. There are many areas where you are able to use the critical thinking skills on the job, or in an everyday situation. When you go to the mall is great example where you can apply the critical thinking skills learn do to all the sales representative that are just trying to sale you an item? At car dealer you used critical thinking to make sure you are getting a good deal for the pride you are paying. At work I use critical thinking to make sure the information that is given to me by inmate is correct and that they aren’t trying to pull a fast one like in the gamescape with the alarm sales rep. There are...
