...Alex Kleemeier Erica Jones ENG 105 11-22-15 Stop Animal Testing in the Medical Field Lions and tiger and bears oh my. More like, monkeys and dogs and mice oh no. How does being poked, probed, opened up, burned, shocked and tortured all for the advancement of the medical field sound? Now think about all those things being done, knowing there is another way, which causes no agony, distress or discomfort to any living creature. Animal testing is a process or “tradition” that has been around for many, many years. The problem with this tradition in particular is that although it causes much pain to innocent animals and can be avoided, many choose to still use this practice today. Animals have been used as tools in biomedical research as early on as the days when Greek philosophers, such as Aristotle, were experimenting for their next scientific breakthrough. Ibn Zuhr (Avenzoar), an Arab physician in twelfth century Moorish Spain, introduced animal testing as an experimental method for testing surgical procedures before applying them to human patients (Hajar 2011). Many research associations claim that animal testing has been used in almost every single medical breakthrough within the last one hundred years. Laws have been passed in several countries to make this practice more “humane.” In reality, these laws are the bare minimum and do not truly make a difference for the animals that are being used for experimentations. Animal testing in the medical field needs to dissolve and ultimately...

As a bunny owner I want to save all of the bunny and other animals. As the years go by I want to make sure that animals are not being tested on every day every and every year because over 1 million animals are being tested on in the world each year and that is just killing animals and soon the are going to go extinct. These are a few questions I have about animals...

...What is animal testing? The term animal test is refusing to the test of research into basic biology and diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new medicinal products, cleaning products, and industrial/agro-chemicals. The most common animal used are mice, fish, rats, rabbits, Guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, dogs, mini pigs, and non-human primates (monkeys and in some countries, chimpanzees). Reasons to stop animal testing, animals are killed, over fed, and they’re not protected by the Animal Welfare Act. Over 100 million animals are hurt every year due to animal testing. Some animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year. Why would these labs want to hurt these poor animals? Their thorny to it is, no humans are being harmed so testing animals are fine. I don’t look at it like that, some of these animals are harmless and they just get token and used for testing medicines and chemicals. These animals aren’t only being killed but some survive and live with pain....

...Scientists putting animals through suffrage through medical research, but in any case, it is not contested, but on a scale it often is. There is an up and downstream of whether animal experimentation is a part of good science and also result in medical breakthroughs for humans. Depending on whether the progress may have achieved by any means. Millions of animals each year in the United States are experimented on for testing to help find cures and medicine for sick people/patients. Toxicity of medicine is put into animals and take the risk of whether or not are tests are successful or not so we can research further more. Research is led into saving lives, but what about the ones that are tested for hours on end and spend days in cages without...

...through this deadly experiment, people would be in shock. Instead, scientists are testing whether or not swallowing shampoo would affect a cat. Testing on animals is a very disagreeable process that should not be allowed. Animal testing started a number of years ago to help provide humans with information. The process of animal testing is one of the most disturbing experiments ever done. Many cosmetics and personal care products are made every year and are put into the market after being tested on animals. Almost every product has been animal tested at some stage in its development. The website titled "Animals in Product Testing" stated, "...these products have gone through a long and complex testing process that leaves millions of animals mutilated, burned, poisoned and gassed in outmoded and unnecessary tests." From these different experiments, animals are often left with different diseases like Syphilis, herpes, or AIDS. Manufacturers of these different products say that they are performing these tests to assure our safety for these products. They want to make sure that humans are not in any amount of danger. Why do companies even agree with animal experimentation? Some companies, like Clairol, demand that they do not use animal testing on their shampoo product. Even though they have cut down on animal testing, they have not eliminated the complete line of cosmetics and other products of animal...

...to dissolve your teeth, or be paralyzed from polio? There is a growing movement to stop all use of animals in tests but particularly in experiments performed for reasons of human vanity, not health. These tests have resulted in countless medical treatments, helping millions of people. Animal testing is necessary because it allows people to avoid testing new products and it increases the standard of living for all humans. Source C argues that animals should be used in medical and commercial testing because it means that the treatments have been tested and that you aren’t the first person to have this done to them. The reference to you being ‘the guinea pig” in Source C is especially important because it jokes of the man being tested on instead of an animal. Source C’s most important information is how easily people connect with the idea of being tested on. While Source C doe make an important argument about animal testing it doesn't actually have any information to back it up, unlike Source A....

...Taylor Petty 12/2/2015 English 099 Mr. Adamoschek Is it cruel to use Animals to Test Human products? Approximately 225 million animals are used for testing every year. Billions have been killed in the process. ("Questions and Answers About Biomedical Research.”) How can this be allowed? Isn’t it cruel to use animals to test products for humans? Many animal rights activists say, “yes” to this question. However, scientists argue it is necessary and animal research can help save human lives. There are probable arguments for both sides. But the dangers of using animals to test products for human use weighs an even greater risk than not using the animals. Alternatives are much more ethical. Over the years, scientists have used animals to test the toxicity of products being produced for humans. Their argument is clear: that animals can be helpful in aiding to provide advances in human health and new drug findings. Animal testing has helped find some medicines to fight cancer, as well as other medicines now used, for example: Insulin, antibiotics and HIV drugs. It is this very reason that scientists and others support the testing of animals. In fact, there are even some people that will support the use of medical research on animals but they do not support the use of animals for cosmetics to be tested on. Another aspect they tend to want people to take into consideration is that animal testing helps ensure the safety of drugs being used as well as other substances humans...

...ability of a test substance to irritate or damage the eye. This kind of needless torture happens hundreds of times every day as scientists don’t even care if the animal is suffering. Animal testing should be banned because we don’t need the next eyeliner and we have a different body system than animals. Claim: My claim is that we should not do animal testing. First Argument: The first reason why is that they kill animals just to have the next medicine, soap, and food ingredient. My first piece of evidence: Right now there are millions of animals such as dogs, cats, rats, mice, and primates getting tortured just to get the next product of eyeliner. In a recent article by PETA they said that “More than 100 million animals every year suffer and die in cruel chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics tests”(PETA), just to see if the products work. There are some countries such as Europe are getting away from buying products that were animal tested. China is different, they are continuing to sell animal cosmetics. What are cosmetics? A product applied to the body, especially the face, to improve its appearance. In 2014 “China spent 26.3 billion dollars, just on cosmetics”(Jeanne Kim). This proves that people should not kill animals just to get the next resource. The second piece of evidence: Animals are suffering mentally and physically in the facilities where they are getting treated. In the “United States there are over 1,100 facilities” where dogs, cats...

Mice, rabbits, monkeys, dogs but also flies and mosquitoes, fish, birds, frogs, and snakes all these animals, whether more or less attractive can become suddenly in laboratory animals. Therefore, animals testing should be banned for several reasons. The most important cause for animal testing must be...

...our main safety tests for new products and chemicals is on animals. Is this too crucial to human health and development to stop, or could we make a change? For years, animals have been used for product testing to be sure that the products are safe for humans, but this can cause deadly reactions on the animals. Since only five percent of animals are protected by the AWA (Animal Welfare Act), many animals are not safe in these labs. As an effect of the testing, many animals become blind, infected, sick, and in some cases, dead.A prime example is rabbits;they have hazardous chemicals rubbed into their eyes to test eye safety for humans. Other animals have products rubbed into shaved skin and are force-fed unhealthy chemicals. But it’s too important to human safety and development to stop the testing, right? We continue to test animals because the data from the tests help us make fewer mistakes in medicine. Because of this, we can make human use safer. Only few tests are irrelevant, but most tests are designed to give us the most accurate information. Chimpanzee’s DNA is 99% similar to humans, making the tests very accurate. Mice...

...Humans have used animals for different uses. They have been used for food, clothing farm work and a variety of other uses. So using them to test new medical advances is different. Animal testing for medical purpose help saves lives and future generations. Animal testing should be continued for the use within the medical field. The ancient Greeks believed that animals were created by the gods to be used however people wish. The Bible says God gave man dominions “over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping things that creeps on the earth” (Genesis 9:1-3). The ancient Greeks and Romans influenced the laws of western civilization. The western civilization had no laws saying what you could not do to an animal no matter how cruel or unnecessary the act was (Thorburn). To some people animals have no rights at all while to others animals have rights and should not fell unnecessary pain and suffering. The people who believe animals have no rights; and use them just for their benefits but there is a line that should not be crossed animals do have feelings and some rights. The new movement of animal right groups has some good points like human like primates should not be used in testing like chimpanzees. The first law put in place by western civilizations was in the Massachusetts Bay colony. The law states that it is illegal to exercise any tyranny or cruelty towards any animal which are kept for use by humans...

...face of a helpless animal can break your heart. Many animals go through torturous testing on a day to day basis that they cannot help, nor can they defend themselves. Since Ancient Greek times, animals have been undergoing cruel and inhumane medical testing that should not be done for the benefits of the human race. Animal testing is wrong because it is cruel, costly, harmful to animals, unreliable, and outdated. Animal testing has been around since the times of the Ancient Greeks. Between seventeen million and twenty-two million animals are used for biomedical research each year (Leepson). Many believe that animals do have rights, and there are many organizations out there to trying to ensure their safety and help them get out of the horrible treatments they endure. For example, the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, has been around since 1866 trying to curb the gruesome treatment of humans to animals. The ASPCA tries to prevent the abuse and neglecting of animals around the nation. They set up shelters for animals and they give vaccines and anything else they may need. The different types of animals being tested are endless; from mice to sheep, they all serve their own purpose in the medical field. Even though these animals have helped scientist break through some medical mysteries, it is still inhumane how they have to suffer in confined quarters. The CAFO, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, raise animals in small living spaces...

...Animal Testing Every year over 100 million animals are killed due to animal testing (“Experiment”). Animals have been used for testing throughout history. Some individuals agree with animal testing but do not think about the harm scientist cause animals. Humans take their studies to the extreme by putting any product on animals not thinking about the consequences. Individuals do not think about how the products they are using were tested; they don’t realize what scientist did to test the product in order for them to use without having an issue. Animal testing shouldn’t be allowed to test any products or for medical studies; it is unethical and many animals are abused and harmed in various ways. Throughout history the practice of...

...Position Paper – The Pros and Cons of Animal Experimentation The Pros and Cons of Animal Experimentation Animal research has had a major role in many scientific and medical advances. It has both its advantages and disadvantages. “Moreover,” animal experimentation is an extremely controversial subject that has divided people into a group that either support animal testing or oppose it all together, and another that advocates the use of alternatives. There are many pros and cons when it comes to this subject. People all over the world have different opinions on weather animal lab testing is humane and necessary. Animal experimentation is unethical due to the practice of animal torture and suffering, animal choice and death of these animals. Animal experimentation (noun): any type of experiment performed on living animals, especially in order to test the effects of chemical compounds such as new drugs, cosmetics, food additives and pesticides (Animal experimentation, 2001). All over the world, people think differently on whether animal experimentation is an appropriate way to test medicines and products. Each year in the United States, an estimated 70 million animals are maimed, blinded, scalded, force-fed chemicals, genetically manipulated, and otherwise hurt and killed in the name of science, by private institutions, household product and cosmetics companies, government agencies, educational institutions, and scientific centers. Substances we use every day, such...

...Animal Experiments Should Be Prohibited Ducduy Tran Solbridge International School of Business Animal experiments should be prohibited Nowadays, following the development of society, many environmental implications have also risen, such as air pollution, water pollution, and greenhouse effect…These problems cause a lot of dangerous diseases which can kill people. Scientists are trying hard to discover the treatment for these diseases. In order to achieve that, they have to use several methods, and animal experimentation is one of those. Some people think that, animal experiments give people a lot of benefits. I agree with this opinion, but I think it’s only true in the past because these days, thanks to the development of technology in medicine, animal experiments is now not necessary and should be prohibited for the following reasons. The first reason I object to animal testing is that, animal experiments are unethical. To be more specific, animals were always unconsidered and were seen as unemotional beings so people thought experiments on animal are normal and necessary. However, after doing many research, scientists proved that animals have feelings just like human beings do. From the article “Do Animals Have Emotions? Of Course They Do!” by Marc Bekoff, author of The Emotional Lives of Animals, said that emotions are the presents that our creators gave us, both animals and human have them, thus when we describe the feelings of animals we will no longer use the quotation...
