The results concluded that my top five strengths, in order of strength, were: Achiever, Harmony, Futuristic, Restorative, and Responsibility. Rath (2007) states the aim of most learning programs is “to help us become who we are not” (p.1). The goal of this type of skills testing is to identify our strengths and talents and focus on increasing those rather than addressing our weaknesses. As I continue my journey to obtain a master’s degree in project management, I am eager to learn all the different facets that will help and support me in becoming an effective manager. Effective leaders are always investing in strengths, surrounding themselves with the right people and maximizing their...

Strategic Thinking strengths are the ones who keep us focus on what could be. They are constantly absorbing and analyzing information and helping the team make better decisions. People with strength in this domain continually stretch our thinking for the future. I agree with the strengths finder assessment because I’m also told that I’m also serious and that I think too much at times. I’m always being told to light up and I try to for the most part, but it seems more like a task, because it a natural thing for me, I’m assuming that is where the deliberative aspect is recognized. I tend to be selective with whom I spend my time with and how I spend my time. I would rather be home reading a book, looking at documentary or something that I can learn and grow from. Before making a decision I like to take my time and think about all the scenarios that could happen and try to come up with a contingency plans just in case the original or back up plans fail. Once I’m comfortable with my choice or decision I will add my thoughts whenever possible I tend to read a lot and hold on to my books for future use, I’m also thinking a time is going to come when...

...My five strength themes are deliberative, futuristic, responsibility, relator and consistency. I found these strengths to be consistent with who I am. Deliberative is described as someone who is serious, careful with decisions, calculated, not easily flattered by words, and one who rarely gives compliments (Gallup 2017). It also describes another part where I feel mostly connected with and that is being “Private”. Privacy is something that I struggle with, I often view “being private” as being weak. But I realize now that this could be a strength and could be used in my favor. Being methodical and careful in my travel plans is crucial, especially when traveling to another country, one mistake could ruin a trip. I often travel to different...

...The Process of Self-Discovery Dina Carrington Saint Leo University Dr. V. Rose February 23, 2014 Abstract Self-discovery can be a hard task to tackle. Part of self-discovery is determining your values, goals, strengths and weaknesses. Once a person has determined what their values, goals, strengths and weaknesses are, they can set a solid foundation for a rewarding career. A person should have a passion for their career and knowing whom you are and what you want to do is the first part. This paper will describe the process of self-discovery through personal career goals, learning your strengths, improving your weaknesses, what career skills are required and why, as well as, how to identify the components of a career plan and why it is important to determine your path early in life. Some methods used to determine self-discovery are Myers-Biggs Type Indicator (MBTI) instrument by Carl Jung, Career Interest Profiler, General Mental Ability (GMA) introduced by Spearman, and Strength Finders 2.0. The Process of Self-Discovery A person’s values are a set of standards or beliefs that are important to them; these basic standards also guide our choices in regards to right and wrong behavior. We derive some of our values from our family, friends and environment. Some values that may be important to you are: being honest, healthy, knowledgeable, respected, or leading. When a person understands their values, they can establish authentic and gratifying goals. We use our...

...position that sets you up for success and be able to motivate others to work towards a common goal. To do this, it is important to use the strengths that you have a high propensity to do well. You must also learn from past experiences of success and apply what worked well and avoid those that did not. Just as a kitten born in a stove oven does not make it a biscuit, a child born of a leader does not make him a leader. We must learn to lead, and to do so requires us to develop a leadership style that encourages success. When we began the Leadership I Seminar, we learned about our strengths using the Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment. According to the assessment, my greatest strength is Communication. That has not always been the case. Until I got into college, I was a very shy and soft spoken kid who was terrified to talk in class or to stand out in any way. I preferred to fit in and chose not to draw attention to myself. I was not alone – the number one fear people have is public speaking; followed closely by a fear of dying. (So I guess more people would rather be in the casket than to have to give the Eulogy?) In college, I took a business communication class which required I read several books about how individuals have succeeded. The individuals highlighted in these books explained that the single greatest strength they possessed was their ability to effectively deal with people. I believe that that is effective communication. I wanted to be successful...

...MAR 4354 07/08/2013 Executive Summary I was very pleased for the most part with the tests and assessments I found them very interesting since I started finding out things about myself that I did not know and also verified some of my strengths by doing all the assessments. I found out what my biggest strengths are, I also found out that things I thought I was very good at, it turns out I have a lot of room for improvement; for example, the active listening skills test I though I was an extremely good listener and it turns out I am not very good. I am happy to have figured this out that way I can work on improving my listening skills. I also liked the personality test a lot because it showed me what type of person I am. I did this test very carefully to get the most accurate results possible and I found out that things that are shocking to me; for example, I am a ISFP type of person this means that I am very interested in fine arts and that I enjoy and like expressions primarily through art. I would have never imagined this. The strength finder test is a test that I personally had a bit of hard time doing since sometimes I found myself very inclined to answer both choices. This test also surprised me in a good way learning that my top five themes are: analytical, belief, individualization, achiever, and competition. I knew I had some of these talents however, I did not know I had them so developed. Lastly the competencies assignment was the one I enjoyed the most...

An activity I would implement is the Clifton Strengths Finder 2.0, which is an online assessment helping individuals find their top five strengths (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). Darren will gain several insights of himself during this stage. Not only will this activity show Darren his strengths, but his weaker aspects. Darren can learn to work on these weaknesses through counseling. One of the important areas Darren will discover is why some tasks are more difficult than others (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). For example, why does Darren find it difficult to get along with superiors? The goal is to really get down to the meaning of Darren’s problems and understand where he is coming...

...My Strengths What I’ve learned about personality traits is that there are so many distinct types and each person can identify with man different types of individual personality traits. I feel that we all After take the Strength Finder 2.0 Assessment my top five strengths scored as: 1) Harmony, 2) Restorative, 3) Empathy, 4) Consistency and 5) Intellection. The assessment served as a guide for evaluating my natural talents and passions and assessing them into five top strengths. My top five themes report is indicated around the strength insight descriptions I was most drawn too. Below is a review of my top five strengths. Harmony The strength of my harmony personality trait develops from what I can see and how I respond to what I see. I am able to see how people can come together when they are in conflict. People who are in conflict tend to be absent-minded on how to come to a resolution to their conflicts because difference in opinions can be hard to overcome. I can often see where people in conflict could come together and resolve these differences. Typically, one a one-on-one basis, I will meet with those in conflict and help each person to clarify their own position and come to see the point of view of the person with whom they are in conflict with. In so doing, I help resolve people’s conflicting issues. The strength of my harmony trait can be greatly beneficial to other families, small groups, or even at large organizations. Unfortunately, I sometimes do not...

...Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Qualities Self-Awareness Principals of Leadership: Service to Others Fall Semester, 2010 Jeff Hawkins "Emotional intelligence refers to the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships," says Daniel Goleman in his book "Working with Emotional Intelligence" (1999). It describes abilities distinct from, but complementary to, academic intelligence - the purely cognitive capacities measured by IQ. The concept of an “emotional intelligence” as important in certain applications as an “Intellectual Intelligence” is not necessarily new. The conversations surrounding Emotional Intelligence are becoming more focused, and taking on a greater relevance in our practices. The idea of emotional intelligence (EQ) as a counterpart to intelligence quotient (IQ) for educators and educational leaders is an expanding area of study and self-reflection. Research shows that emotional intelligence may actually be significantly more important than cognitive ability and technical expertise combined. In fact, some studies indicate that EQ is more than twice as important as standard IQ abilities. Further, evidence increasingly shows that the higher one goes in an organization, the more important EQ can be. For those in leadership positions, emotional intelligence skills account for close to 90 percent of what distinguishes outstanding leaders from...

...The Stress-free Pursuit of an MBA Anonymous Student MGT/521 March 27, 2011 Phoenix Instructor The Stress-free Pursuit of an MBA The decision to pursue a postgraduate degree can turn into a decade-long odyssey. In my case the competing factors of time and finances always seemed to have the upper hand. In fact, it would be significantly easier to present all of the arguments against going back to school at this time. One could argue strongly that several significant life-changing events experienced recently would be reason enough to delay the initiation of the Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) program. Issues related to family loss and job change could be used as evidence in favor of postponement. Financial strains could also be presented as yet another reason that the time, effort, and expense required for an MBA would not be a necessary use of resources. However, despite all of the very valid arguments supporting a delay or abandonment of this goal, now is the time to begin my pursuit in earnest. In presenting the rationale for my decision, particularly related to all of the major life change I am going through, I am confident that the reader will concur that I am prepared to face the challenges of a postgraduate degree. According to The American Institute of Stress (n.d.), Dr. Hans Selye defined stress in 1936 as "the non-specific response of the body to any demand for change” (para. 2). Whereas the causes of stress and the responses to it...

...Difficult Situations Student’s Name Institution Difficult Situations It is often said that man is to err and that no situation is too hard to tackle. To error is to fail to complete a planned action as intended or trying to achieve an aim with an incorrect plan (Sherwood & Bernsteiner 2012). Like an accident, no one knows when a problem may build. All the same, an individual ought to deal with a difficult situation in the best manner as it arises. As a charge nurse, I too had a conflict one time that had to be resolved with my colleagues and manager. It has been my fourth twelve hour shifts in as many nights. Due to lack of sufficient sleep arising from my neighbour’s children playing loudly in the yard next door, I arrive at my workplace already wornout and tired. This happens frequently and I never talk to my neighbour on the need to be quiet during the day as I try to slumber. May be it is because of the second thought that rings in my head that such talks would result in no good, so why bother anyway. I am a few minutes late for my shift and I must stop over at the petrol station for gas on my way to work. I had an argument with my husband on the cell phone on my way to work and it is still fresh in my mind, like it stuck in my brain. He is fond of leaving the gas low when I head to work, I know not why. This is an argument we have had with him time and again and yet still it yields no fruit, same old, nothing ever changes. I think I really would...
