STRICTER GUN LAWS IN AMERICA

America needs stricter measures on gun usage because other countries have clearly shown that it is possible to have a much lower percentage of gun-related violence. The obvious changes that America needs to improve on are stricter gun-control laws, and a system of education before people are allowed to own guns.

Guns were used in 11,078 homicides in the U.S. in 2010, comprising almost 35% of all gun deaths, and over 68% of all homicides (Statistics on, 2012). Between 1955 and 1975, the Vietnam War killed over 58,000 American soldiers less than the number of civilians killed with guns in the U.S. in an average two-year period (Statistics on, 2012). They can cause harm, death and even destruction. These weapons are powerful both socially and physically and thus very important to pay close attention to where these laws over gun control are headed. The directions of gun control laws not only affect our society and nation but also our future.

In America close to eleven thousand people die in relation to handgun incidences in a year. This is a big number compared to other nations like Japan, Sweden and Great Britain where their death number in gun related issues is below one hundred (Prentice et al , 2009).The reason behind this drastic differences is that the above mentioned nations require safety courses on gun usage and their gun control laws are more strict. There is a direct relationship between number of deaths as a result of guns and the laws governing control of guns. America perhaps needs to adopt some of their laws such that gun related deaths can reduce (Goss, 2009).

Gun laws as compared to America toughly govern America’s European neighbors. In England the proper information on hunting guns that are permitted is to be provided. This includes type of gun, purpose of use, and requires to be signed out. This

If the government made stricter laws on guns, then they really wouldn’t be solving the problem, the problem is criminals are getting their hands on guns. So having stricter gun laws will make criminals find another way to get their hands on guns. The sale of guns over the Internet on private and government approved sites would be a step in the right direction. The idea of banning the ownership of guns to citizens is bad because the government would be breaking the law. Now with recent research and progression we might be able to identify potential mass shooters. Some people view gun laws as another way to keep poor inner city black people (who are viewed as dangerous) from owning guns. Any attempt the government makes to try and make some tougher gun laws the NRA is right there to block or lobby the law, because they have such an...

Stricter Gun Control Laws In America

...Gun related incidents have become a huge problem in America, and too many US citizens are losing their lives to guns. Guns take the lives of American citizens every day, from shooting massacres, to a child playing with a gun he had access to in his house. More people in America are killed by guns than terrorists. In fact over 30,000 people are killed by guns each year. Last year, only 17 people were killed by terrorist attacks (Terror). You can see that correlation on a daily basis as well. 3 people died in the Boston Marathon because of the terrorist attack staged there, that same day, in the U.S., 11 people were killed by guns (Terror). More American citizens are being killed by other American citizens armed to the tee, than by America’s common enemy. If you look at it that way it’s like we are doing the terrorist’s work for them. Every time there is a push to end gun violence there is an equal push back to keep things the same which...

Also, the policies and regulations presented in the Gun Control Laws spreads it effects to the American citizens that manufacture, transport, possess, modify, and use any firearm. Some of the laws have very strict boundaries and limits on gun usage and possession. The pervasive gun ownership only increases the number of gun-related incidents in the United States of America. Opponents of the gun control law maintain an argument that the policies and regulations present in the gun control laws do not reduce crimes such as murder, suicide, and injuries that are related to illegal ownership of guns and ammunitions. Additionally, other oppositions argue that the regulations and policies in the gun control laws have a tendency to violate rights of individuals...

Stricter Gun Laws Essay

...Numerous people nationwide believe that gun control laws as we know it are rending our country apart, and I know that stricter laws will not change what is going on all around us. While many people debate whether stricter gun laws will help reduce homicides, suicides, and mass shooting, I believe that making stricter gun laws will not change the horrific events that are going on. The state legislature should not change the gun laws because guns were an important pastime for some people and because if criminals want guns for crimes they will still be able to find a way to get them. Guns were and still are a very big part of growing up in rural America, and it is important that things don't change for them. An article in the New York Times states “But guns are important to the culture in my conservative community in Iowa, and people around here reject most gun control legislation.”(Leonard). This shows that a change in gun laws is not wanted around rural areas around the country. As you can also tell by the evidence it is important to the people that laws stay the same because it was an...

...The Deadly Date The Deadly Debate Gun Control has been at the forefront of many debates due to the increase of deadly shootings. Over the past several years, there have been multiple mass casualty shootings, and as the number of shootings increased, United States citizens began the debate of whether tighter gun control laws would prevent these shootings. In this debate, we will address the reasons supporting gun control and the reasons opposing gun control. Americans have a choice and this choice will be debated below. America was founded on the principle of freedom and the rights of an individual to live in a nation built by the people, for the people. The government has begun to use tragedy, terrorism and civil unrest to force unjustified laws and federal controls into action that are a direct attack on our civil liberties. The NSA and other federal organizations have violated Americans rights and freedom in the name of national security far too many times. If we allow the government to take away our rights to bear arms it will be another tragedy in the long list of attacks on our American rights. Many gun control activists believe that reducing the number of private gun owners in America will reduce crime and suicide. This could not be further from the truth; strict gun laws will only take the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, criminals will be armed and normal citizens will have no means of immediate protection. A recent study conducted by Harvard...

Yes, the irresponsibility of gun owner have caused an immense impact in society, based in The International Firearm Injury Prevention and Policy Organization, just since January of 2013 there has been 8,534 cases of people killed by a gun. In fact, to prevent more deaths due to irresponsible gun owners the government of the USA should certainly pass stricter gun laws because it can prevent deaths, it can reduce crimes, and it can make America a better and a safer place to live. There are many reasons for the government to pass stricter gun laws. A perfect example is the shooting that took place in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. James Egan Holmes killed twelve innocent people and at least 59 were injured with an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun, and a 40- caliber hand gun. These kinds of incidents could be prevented if the government would pass much harsh and stricter gun laws, so that not anyone could obtain a gun so easy. ...Gun Control what’s The Point Sondra Miller Dr. Kimberly Stanley December 8, 2013 Gun control in America is a debate that is a constant concern about the 2nd Amendment or the right to bear arms. Having the freedom to carry a gun is a very controversial issue in society today. There are many people who feel that guns has been a problem and part of the reason there is so much crime. In 1994 a crime bill was passed by President Bill Clinton that would prohibit just anyone from owning a gun (Washington Times vol0). As long as guns are made readily available for Americans to own them, tragedies such as the 1999 columbine school killing that 13 people were killed and wounding countless of others (Cullens2000,p 439) will continue to happen. Gun control policies should be stricter for people who wants to own a gun and for the store owners who sale them. The Hoffman Gun Center and Indoor Range require that gun owners have pistol permits that want to buy assault rifles. According to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Safety the law requires that a person who wants to buy a gun be at least 21 years of age, no convicted felonies, background check, and take a safety and storage course (Hoffman, 2001, newspaper). In America at least 400 children will die...

...Marcos Saavedra Dr. Jonathan Sperry DSS 100 October/10/2014 Gun Control Stricter gun laws would be fundamental for ending violence on the world. Every day people all over the world die because of guns, people use the guns to create violence and commit crimes. Now in days, in many countries people can easily obtained guns without any problem, especially gang members. Individuals think that by having a gun, it gives them power over other people, this is why they are so dangerous, because when people feel having more power than other, they do what they want. Having stricter regulations in guns would definitely decrease the violence in the world and provide more peace. In America, more than 40 percent of the population own or have access to guns. Americans want to have stricter regulations for guns, but the problem is they don’t want to revoke “right to bear arms”. In 1999, a shooting in Columbine High School, terrified the citizens in the United States, and realize that more than 70 percent of the citizens wanted stricter gun control, as well 57 percent of the people who own guns, want more regulations against guns. A way not to inflict on the law of “right to bear arms” is to have a law were citizens that buy guns require background checks.
