...Thesis/Introduction In "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the nameless main character goes through a lot including an emotional breakdown, which causes her to do crazy things and was in a mission to find the wallpaper. The author didn't want the reader to discover the main character's true identity. This was probably because the nameless character suffered from depression. However her lack of identity caused her brother and husband to believe that she wasn't "sick". Depression was viewed as a disease that crazy people suffered from not "normal" folks. The nameless character from the story suffered from depression. Throughout the story, they would isolate her which meant she couldn't work or write, thinking that maybe she needed some alone time. In the text "John is a physician, and perhaps that is the one reason i do not get well faster"(Gilman 1).When it came down to her brother and husband they wouldn't think she was ill even though they were physicians. She felt that in order for her "nervous depression" to get better she had to set her self free and go on a journey/mission which involved looking for "The Yellow Wallpaper". The depression made her start seeing stuff mostly the stuff she saw was positive, but she saw some disturbing thing in the bedroom which appeared to her that had various shapes and...

...8 July 2007 Exactly What is the Right Stuff? When people ask what is needed to accomplish an impossible task, or achieve a goal that seems outside the grasp of human power, it is often said that the person who achieves that feat has “The Right Stuff.” This is not some item you can pick up in a store, or that is taught at an Ivy League college. “The Right Stuff” is the intestinal fortitude required to drive on and persevere far after it is said it is no possible. Since the dawn of time it has been wondered if it takes a person of almost god-like proportions to achieve impossible feats, or someone just crazy enough to try. I most cases this is really nothing more that a person with such drive and desire to prove their point they are willing to risk everything including their lives to make something happen. To properly categorize this concept of “The Right Stuff”, we must look at what has been done in its name. Weather it be BG Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier in the Bell X-1, or the pioneers of the space program in the Mercury and Apollo space programs; one thing holds true they indeed has something that others did not, guts. When the word guts are used it is usually compared to a skateboarder or freestyle motocross rider doing something crazy and dangerous. This while brave and daring is nothing in comparison to the risk involved in the early space programs. People who in fact have this thing we call “The Right Stuff” are easily categorized and found. They are...

...June 26th, 2003 I woke up from sleep to the monitors saying that it was safe to come out from the bomb shelters. The world was at war and everyone was in safe places for about a year. A lot of people weren’t prepared for this because it came out of nowhere. Most of the people probably didn’t make it. I was so worried to go out and see what had happened. I miss my family and I’ve been going crazy. I’ve been alone for about a year. I had no idea what happened to my family. They must not be alive. If they were I would have no idea where they are I thought. I was so scared to go outside but I knew I had to eventually. I put all my belongings into a certain area with a lock because I didn’t want to risk anyone taking my stuff. Who know what people could be like. They could be going crazy. People could’ve ran out of food and are going mad crazy to find food. I wasn’t going to risk it....

...In The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien surrealism is found in most of the the stories from O’Brien. It’s not simple to find out exactly what happened in war from the war story you read or told by the soldier himself. The description of what happens get exaggerated to much and it makes you think of it like it was a video game and not true. What you imagine in your mind is not the whole true story because the story teller leaves a lot of the parts out and your mind doesn’t get to process the exact story. Without the full story your brain thinks it is an imaginary story and that makes it surreal. In “How to Tell a True War Story” on page 68 Mitchell Sanders tells his story of a six man patrol going to the mountains to listen for enemy movement....

...Self Analysis In this essay, I’m sharing with you some of the struggles I endured as a teenager and explain how I learned from the lot of mistakes I made. Looking back and reflecting on my life I can now see that I have made many mistakes. Most of my mistakes I have made were due to my lack of patience and never listening to the older family members. If I had listened to their words of wisdom, I would have saved myself a lot of trouble and headaches. Instead of taking their advice, I took my own path and did things my way. Just like any teenagers, I want to spend my time doing crazy and stupid things. I hate being nagged by my parents. They always want me to clean the house, wash dishes, study and all the crazy stuffs I hate. They always said that “This is for your own good” and I got so irritated every time I hear those words. As a teenager, I want to do things on my own. I want to enjoy life. Play arcade games, hang-out with friends, go somewhere. It seemed as if the more I did not listen, the deeper the hole I dug myself. I remember my mother told me “What goes around comes around.” I started dating a lot of girls around when I turned thirteen. I did not take into consideration the feelings of the girls that I talked to at all. I met a girl and fell in love with her but she didn’t feel the same way about me as I felt as I felt about her. My heart was broken and all I could think about was the lecture I received from my mother about karma. And now,...

...This article made me wonder. While I was reading I saw that the article had a question of interest. The question is “why people with mental health problems fail to engage in treatment. I can see why stigma plays a role to this. There are two parts of stigma in this article. First of all stigma is basically when someone marks you with a circumstance or as a person. Public stigma has to do with the public. For example people think that people with mental illness are violent and dangerous. People with mental illness are already going through a lot with their health issues. Public stigma in terms of stereotype, have to deal with negative beliefs about a group. In terms of prejudice these people agree with each other and think that the people with...

...that most of the people he talks to are “phonies”. In the novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield believes that hypocritical adults are sinful, but in reality, hypocrisy is human nature, which leads to the theme of hypocrisy in existence. Holden is blinded by the illusion that all hypocritical adults are sinful. Before Holden leaves Pencey, he has a conservation with one of his professors about a different school he has dropped out of. While discussing the school, Elkton Hills, Holden explains the real reason he left the school. In the text it states, “One of the biggest reasons I left Elkton Hills was because I was surrounded by phonies.” It also states, “I can't stand that stuff. It drives me crazy. It makes me so depressed I go crazy.” The hypocrites that surround him and made him go crazy is also one of the reason he hated the school. Throughout the novel, Holden mentions and explains other phony people. For example, Holden explains his relationship with a girl he once knew. He states, “I spent the whole night necking with a terrible...

...1) What did you learn about sexuality from your teachers? Friends? Church? Parents? Books? From teachers- what I learned in health class- basic stuff like sperm, egg, attraction. I don't remember any talk about actual intercourse. From Friends- not much of anything. I had few friends and we were girlfriends- talked girly stuff, not much about guys. From Parents- absolutely nothing. There was no sex talk at all. From Books- I learned about intercourse and that there are strong feelings. I learned about periods and the female anatomy. 2) What information and ideas were the norm when you were growing up (such as in your teen years or early adult years)? Sex was not to be talked about, especially as a topic to find out more information about. It was a sin unless you were married. Kids played around, but you didn't "go all the way". Only bad girls had sex before marriage- guys had sexual urges and had to be told "no". Girls weren't supposed to have sexual urges. 3) What were the attitudes of your parents, your friends, and the media about sex? Parents- Only after marriage-- a dirty subject--- not fun Media- Girls make guys do crazy things- Flirting is ok. Sexiness sells. Friends- Never talked about--- Not a big deal - some guys were cute, handsome, but we were not falling all over ourselves to impress them. ...

...How can someone tell a true story when it’s made up? O’Brien develops a scene where the facts hold less importance compared to what the reader feels. War is already hard enough to fathom, but when “the crazy stuff is true and the normal stuff isn’t, the normal stuff is necessary to make you believe the truly incredible craziness” (68). The next layer dives into the perception of the reader versus what O’Brien wants to show. Sometimes personal experience can misconstrue the original meaning; hence, by changing any bias of the story, every reader will better connect with the piece, but also understand that “you can’t extract the meaning without unraveling the deeper meaning” (74). The point is to “make [the] stomach believe,” because creating...
