Clarity on Blood Diamonds Diamonds are mined for a number of reasons. Some reasons may be for paying off certain debts, glamorous jewelry, or for trade. Blood diamonds, also classified as conflict diamonds, are diamonds mined in a war zone and sold for the funding of a rebellion or uprising. Conflict diamonds are also sold to fund civil wars or for the rise of a warlord. Conditions in diamond mining are not always honorable and they are completely horrific. Almost all of the diamond miner in Africa live in poverty, earning and average pay of less than a dollar a day. Also, child labor is overly common and their working conditions are very frequently hazardous. The connection of violence …show more content…
Armed troops stormed into Africa to eventually take over diamond mines (Shalik-Peremanov 329). By doing this, the United States think the people of Africa will end their fighting since there are no illegal diamonds continuing to be sold. The states found out some time later that terrorist groups continued to sell the blood diamonds in spite of the United Nation’s ruling. After endless attempts on controlling the Africans, the United Nations funded a special resolution pout of international concern over the unlawful exchanges of blood diamonds. That resolution was the group called The Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). Their objectives is to confirm the origin of the exchange of conflict diamonds from places free of violence and prevent the trade of conflict diamonds to end human rights abuse (Shalik-Peremanov 328). KPCS realizes that “the maintenance of international peace and security is dependent upon intra state peace and security” (Shalik-Peremanov 332). This is a significant point in the solutions to end violence in Africa. When the people are not happy, the anger may stem from their home state or country’s ruling. Therefore, action must be taken to improve the livelihood of Africa’s inhabitants. The states should terminate violence since Africa is not happy, or any other country for that matter, there is a possibility of another world war. The United …show more content…
When mining for diamonds in Africa, that symbolization no longer counts. Africa is in a state of poverty due to blood diamonds. Citizens of Africa are held against their will for over sixteen hours to work the diamond mines. Statistics show that diamond miners in Africa produce about 15% of the world’s diamonds. Those workers do not get the wages that mirror their hard work and long hours. Those same diggers earn less than a dollar a day. This unbelievable fact shows that poverty in Africa has reached an all-time high. The diamond miners are beaten and threatened if they do not work up to the terrorist group or warlord’s standards. This serves to be a reoccurrence of slavery. Slaving abuses a human being’s human rights. Many of Africa’s citizens are unemployed, work as a diamond miner, or are already at the poverty line (Khumalo 5648). The million dollar revenue Africa gets, they do not give back to their country. Diamond mines are still horrifying. The United States should end slavery and poverty in Africa to establish better human rights. To start things of, America has to establish a better and sturdier government. The states must be happy first to make the country entirely happy. The United Nations should push the Kimberly Process to take a better accountability and be more truthful with consumers. The Kimberly Process, at least, should explain on their organization website and on its broadcasts that a “conflict free”

Rhetoricalwriting

...A Preface of Quotations Whoever desires for his writings or himself, what none can reasonably condemn, the favor of mankind, must add grace to strength, and make his thoughts agreeable as well as useful. Many complain of neglect who never tried to attract regard. It cannot be expected that the patrons of science or virtue should be solicitous to discover excellencies which they who possess them shade and disguise. Few have abilities so much needed by the rest of the world as to be caressed on their own terms; and he that will not condescend to recommend himself by external embellishments must submit to the fate of just sentiments meanly expressed, and be ridiculed and forgotten before he is understood. --Samuel Johnson Men must be taught as if you taught them not; And things unknown propos'd as things forgot. --Alexander Pope Style in painting is the same as in writing, a power over materials, whether words or colors, by which conceptions or sentiments are conveyed. --Sir Joshua Reynolds Whereas, if after some preparatory grounds of speech by their certain forms got into memory, they were led to the praxis thereof in some chosen short book lessoned thoroughly to them, they might then forthwith proceed to learn the substance of good things, and arts in due order, which would bring the whole language quickly into their power. --John Milton Introduction Good writing depends upon more than making a collection of statements worthy of belief, because writing is intended to...
