When she runs away from Logan, she meets another man that she think will fill her needs of love, except it only hinders her to speak for her own mind. From the beginning to the end of Joe and Janie’s marriage, it was all filled with lies from Joe. As readers can recall, Joe promised Janie a no-workload and no-stress lifestyle for her. Joe did not follow his word and made Janie work in his store. On top of Janie's forced workload, she was being mistreated by Joe and she couldn't say anything about it at the time. When one does not like something that they're doing, one would, naturally, stop doing it. ...Summary Logan and Janie now begin to bicker constantly, his true personality now revealed. He constantly brings up his previous wife and insists on Janie doing the same things she did like chop wood. One day he goes off to buy a mule and Janie sees a “cityfield, stylished dressed man” come into town. Janie begins to pump water to attract his attention and he wanders over. They strike up a conversation, Janie learns that his name is Jody Starks and he is from Georgia. He has learned that the town is ruled entirely by black people and fed up of working for white people his whole life, intends to invest and make a lot of money here. Janie can tell Jody is interested in her but she is not sure that she wants to leave Logan, first because her Nanny wanted them to marry and second because she does not see a pear-tree love with Jody. Before Jody leaves town he tells Janie to meet him up the road the next morning if she wants to be with him. That night Janie bring up the idea of her running away but Logan tells her no man would even want her in the first place. The next morning Logan essentially tells her that she has to obey his every order and refers to her as a spoiled girl; he finishes the discussion by threatening to kill her with an axe. ...Zora Neale Hurston – Naturalism Naturalism is defined as the view that whatever man encounters in any area of human experience is natural. In can be described in detail as factual or realistic representation, especially the practice of describing precisely the actual circumstances of human life in literature and the practice of reproducing subjects as precisely as possible in the visual arts (Yahoo! Education - Dictionary). Zora Neale Hurston, an African American writer, anthropologist, and folklorist, was a naturalist. She was born in the town of Eatonville, Florida, which is five miles from Orlando. Eatonville was the first all black community to be incorporated. Ms. Hurston grew up uneducated and poor, but she was immersed with black folk life. She had little experience with racism early on in life which caused her to have unconventional attitudes later in life. After graduating from the Morgan Academy, Ms. Hurston attended Howard University and received her associates’ degree in 1920. Ms. Hurston worked several jobs during her college years but was still often in debt. She struggled with poverty throughout most of her life despite her hard work. From 1925 on, Ms. Hurston lived in New York and eventually joined the Harlem Renaissance. She was one of the shapers of the black literary and cultural movement of the twenties.
