Millicent was at her house with her sisters Harriet, and Jane. She had just found out that her father, the owner of the shirtwaist factory, was taking her and her sisters out for a treat. Millicent was extra excited that day because her father was going to take her shopping. Her father had brought a cab to their house, because Millicent’s mother was in florida. The girls waited outside, for about fifteen minutes before the cab came to pick them up. When Millicent, Harriet, and Jane climbed into the cab, they noticed the strange smell inside, however the man was very friendly. The girls arrived, and they curiously looked around the factory while heading towards the elevator. When going up to the 10th floor, Harriet began to brag about her shopping trip she was going to have that day. Jane tried to remind her about the chat they had about bragging that their father owned the factory. The boy didn’t seem to mind, however he tried to ignore it. When the girls reached the top of the factory, they asked the lady at the desk, and sent them into their father’s (Mr. Blanck) office. While Millicent and Harriet waited for their father, Jane insisted to go and look for him.

They waited in his office, for around about 20 minutes before they slightly started to hear downstairs some people screaming, however Millicent assumed it was just a sewing machine. “I hope everything's okay down there” Harriet says in a raspy voice. for what seems like hours, the girls kept hearing yelling on the lower levels. Millicent became very curious, so she decided to go outside of the office and asked the lady at the front desk. They lady responded to her saying, “I bet it’s nothing sweetie now go back into your father’s office before you get lost.”. When Millicent returned into the office she told Harriet what the lady had said.
