...Cahokia Cahokia was an Indian society which reaches across a part of the Midwest. It was the largest society that has been discovered by archaeologists to date. Across the four thousand acre settlement they had a chain of mounds that were used for both burial sites and platforms for buildings such as the chief’s house. Among the largest of the mounds is “Monks Mound” which is over ten stories tall. Even though this settlement is a major part of America’s history, many people don’t even know it exists. The reason Cahokia has been so easily forgotten is because it is foreign for people to think that the Indians made their own cities. When we look at Indians we always think of the hunter-gatherer type which is nomadic and constantly moving around...

...Located in the beautiful mountains of San Bernardino, Lake Arrowhead is a tiny city where every family would enjoy living in. Not only is Lake Arrowhead Village a great place to live but great place to enjoy nature’s beauty at any time of the day. I remember Lake Arrowhead for its beautiful scenery, it is family-oriented, and it has many outdoor activities. While visiting Lake Arrowhead in the winter time, I fell head over heels with the beautiful scenery that nature brought upon my eyes. As I arrived to the house in the evening, I looked up and I was able to see the stars that lit up the sky above me. As I walk down to the lake, I was able to hear the crickets’ chirping and the owls hooting as they hear the crackling of the snow that I’m stepping upon. As I look through the horizon of the snow, I saw the never ending slope falling towards the lake that apparently was frozen. As I sat on one of the unfrozen steps, I looked up once again, and I see the beautiful full moon sitting on a cloud. The stars shined even brighter when the moon glistened its light down to Earth. The lake looked really calm and I only saw a couple of ripples being caused by a female duck and her ducklings swimming in the middle of the lake. In the morning when I looked outside the window, the sun shined beautifully through the icicles that dangled down the side of the house. When I drove down to the city, you can see the cities that are at sea level. As I continued looking down, I see the clouds climbing...

...The first time I played softball we were at the Phenix City softball ball field and I had to learn to not give up on something I really wanted to do. So the first time I stepped on the field all I could do was see the sun and smell the oxygen. The next day I hit the ball for the first time ever and I was so ecstatic. My mom and coach were so surprised and happy that I need that with only a couple minutes of practice. After I hit that ball I ran all 5 bases, my coach was so happy for me. It is not easy to play softball, you just need to try and not give up. When I got on that softball field for the first time all could do was see the sun in my eyes and smell the oxygen while my heart was pounding with fear. I was dreading the start of the softball season because I was new, and didn’t know how to play. My coach was very nice and understood that I was nervous and fearful so the first day of practice all we did was practice passing the softball underhand and overhand. Which was helpful and painful at the same time. Which I knew it would be when I started for stories I have been told....

...The Impact of a Professional Sports Team on a City Craig Keller Microeconomics 12-2 T -T All major cities in the U.S. have one thing in common with each other; they all have professional sports teams. From New York to Los Angeles, from Seattle to Miami all have professional teams. They all have the devoted fans no matter if they win the championship or they finish last. But having a major sports team in a city is more than just having someone to cheer for. A sports team can and often does a benefit on the city they are in. They benefit the city’s economy in various ways. Oklahoma City is a city that is considered a small market. The city has had sports teams before, an AAA baseball team, and a minor league hockey team, but never a major league team. Oklahoma City is currently the largest city in Oklahoma. In land area, it is the 3rd largest in the nation behind Anchorage and Jacksonville. (Knapp, 2009) Oklahoma City estimated population is 537,734 as of 2006. ( U.S. Census Bureau, 2010) In 2008 the city finally got a professional sports team. The NBA team the Seattle Supersonics moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City and became known as the Oklahoma City Thunder. The move was possible because the city of Oklahoma had been trying for some time to get a professional team. To do this the city came up with what is called the Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS), which financed new and upgraded sports, entertainment, cultural and convention facilities primarily in the downtown...

...Report Proper I. Objective By writing this report, I hope to accomplish my goal of bringing NCAA sponsored ice hockey to the University of Tennessee. Our school has among the richest of athletic traditions in the country, and I feel we should expand these traditions out onto the ice. Hockey is by far my favorite sport, and I believe it requires the perfect balance of athletic ability and intelligence. I hope that by raising awareness of UT’s need for a hockey program, I can raise awareness of the sport itself. Regardless of whether or not the university decides to explore the option of adding a program, if I can get one person to begin to follow the sport or even give it a chance, my job will be done. This report hopes to decide what the future holds for University of Tennessee Athletics. Will we continue to proceed with the athletic programs we currently operate, attracting the same athletes and students? Or will we branch out and expand into the hockey rink, maintain the same level of support for our current athletic programs, yet opening up the university to a new demographic of students: those who play and watch the sport of hockey. I hope to open the eyes of the athletic department and make them realize that this is something they should seriously look into and consider. II. Scope While writing this report, I was faced with a few limitations in my research. Due to the current state of the Athletic Department here at UT (with the search for a new head football...

...exciting extreme sports practiced during winter. There are different ways to practice this sport. It is quite similar to skateboarding and surfing. On this sport, your feet are attached to a board using special boots and bindings. There are many ski resorts where you can practice it. It consists of going to the top of the mountain and start descending on the slopes when they are covered in snow. You should start snowboarding because it is fun to learn new trick, a great way to exercise in the winter, and a relaxing sport. MacArthur ( 2010) tells us that snowboarding started a long time ago in 1965, by Sherman Poppen, when he was watching his daughter slide in the snow. Sherman invented the board by putting together two skis and a rope so his daughter would be able to give the board some direction. His wife named the board “snurfer” by putting together two words snow and surf. Later in 1977 Jake Burton decided to make some improvements to the board. He tried different materials. Until getting to the board that looks like the ones we have now. Later this sport was introduced in the Olympic Games. Then it started to become more popular. It was fall of 2008 when I came to Utah. The winter was coming. I was excited to go to try snowboarding. I was watching videos on the internet to learn how to snowboard. November is when the ski resorts usually open and they close around May or April, depending on the weather. I finally got to try it. The day was beautiful; the sun was up, the sky...
