Task C Word Count- 1207 Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978 While on my placement in the care home, one way I saw this legislation being implemented was through staff training. All staff who worked in the care home had to receive manual handling training before starting employment to ensure they knew how to handle or move residents correctly to prevent injury to themselves or residents. All staff also receive training on a wide variety of health and safety issues such as first aid, infection control and hygiene. Part of this was keeping an accident report book where all accidents were logged through staff completing an accident report form. If a resident gets injured then the first aid staff will attend to the resident and once resident is calmed and treated properly, the staff who witnessed the accident then fill out an accident report form, on this form it’ll include the date and time of when the accident occurred, then who it involved and witnesses to the accident, then what injuries were sustained and why it happened and what circumstances of the accident. The staff who saw the accident occurring will then go and report it to the manager of the care home, they will present them with a copy of the accident report form and the manager will then decide if further action will be needed. If further action is needed and it was a major injury, then their family will be notified, and the incident will be reported to the relevant authorities such as the Health and Safety executive, for example if it is a broken bone or a resident has a heart
