1. Identify the devices (controls) that Al Fiorini used to control his business both before and after he went back to school. Classify each control as a result, action, or personnel or cultural type of control.

1) Controls that Al Fiorini used to control his business before he went back to school:
Result type of controls: * The control over the process of applications was poor. Al couldn’t properly track processors just by tracking number of credit inquires. * Control over telemarketers was based on performance motivation. The more leads telemarketer did, the higher salary he had. * The way of dividing revenues (40%/60%), encourages loan officers to increase total revenue of the company. The more revenue company get, the higher salary loan officer had.
Action type of controls: * Wilbur cannot use money from main bank account without Al’s permission.
Personnel type of controls: * Hiring of professionals to manage company ( both Joe and Wilbur had plenty of experience in that type of business)
There was no any cultural type of control before Al went back to school.

2) Controls that Al Fiorini used to control his business after he went back to school (in addition to those, mentioned before):
Result type of controls:
- e-mail forwarding of everything that was going through business e-mail
- day-to-day tracking of business activity (number of leads, business expenses, employees activity during work).
Action type of controls:
- calling bank to stop fraudulent activity on business’s account
-contacting police and FBI to get the control over the company back
- day-to-day conversation with stuff of the company

There was no any personnel or cultural type of control after Al went back to school.

2. What went wrong? Did Al use the wrong types of controls? Did he use the right types of controls but fail to design or

To some extent, WACC represents the rate at which a company produces value for investors—if a company produces a return of 20% and has a WACC of 11%, then the company creates 9% additional value for investors. If the return is lower than the WACC, the business is unlikely to secure investment. Also compute WACC using the arithmetic average of Rs from my website.
