CANTON, Ohio—On a beautiful night at the birthplace football Old Dominion graduate and star quarterback Taylor Heinicke made his NFL debut on the biggest stage. The Hall of Fame game gives Heinicke an extra game to prove to the Minnesota Vikings that he is worth dressing three quarterback in the upcoming NFL season.

The Minnesota Vikings took on the Pittsburgh Steelers as the NFL season kicked off. Unlike regular season games, however, the Steelers did not play their star players such as “Big” Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown and the Vikings only play their starting QB Teddy Bridgewater for the first quarter before putting in the reserves.

This gave way for Taylor Heinicke to do what he does best, throw the football and prove the doubters wrong. Heinicke was overlooked in high school due to his short stature for a quarterback but proved those wrong as he threw …show more content…
His numbers and arm strength were not enough to overpower the fact that scouts thought he may have a hard time seeing over the line.

On Sunday night number 6 (Heinicke’s new number) got to take the field to prove all of the doubters wrong once again.
Heinicke played the entire 4th quarter attempting 10 passes and completing 7 of them. One of his passes hit his receiver in the chest before being bobbled and stripped by Steelers corner Kevin Fogg but Heinicke was unfairly credited with an interception. He threw for 51 yards and was on the field for a when backup running back Joe Banyard ran in for a score.

One part of Taylor’s game that seemed to be missing was his long ball.

Those who watched Heinicke at Old Dominion’s Foreman Field, know that he had one of the most deadly deep balls in all of college football. He could drop in a perfectly placed pass 70 yards down field without even trying, so when the Vikings called nothing but short passes it was a tad bit
