What was management like from the 1800s to turn of the 21st century? There has always been some type of management of workers to some degree. During the 1800s there were little to no management training to go off of on how to manage their employees. So, there was no correct or incorrect way to manage people that’s were working for them. People weren't treated fairly for there was no guidelines that protected their well-being. As the time moved on, there have been many different theories to help the way leaders and managers manage their employees better. Not all strategies that were implemented were fitting to benefit the workers. Frederick Taylor was a mechanical engineer that believe that there was a better way to get the minimax among out work out the employees in factories. Frederick was focused on how he could improve industrial efficiency and productivity. Frederick conducted research that would change the way factories worked by combining science and business management. During the 1800’s and 1900’s, the need for products was becoming more and more, but the level of work output remained the same. Frederick observed as workers took the time to minimize the among of work they do by taking breaks and other measures. Frederick identifies this as pure laziness and nothing more as he relates employees on the job to baseball. He …show more content…
The employee was brutalizing in many ways. They were controlled to work area once not being able to leave the room from the most common things like breaks. When they became tired or sick, they force workers to continue the same equal among of hard labor. These conditions caused significant problems for the employees bold from the repetitive motions. He was considered the founder of scientific management and was one of the pioneer batches of management consultants and he devoted his time to the development of his ideas. Scientific management is defined as the support of the selection of the right people for the right jobs, adequately training them, and placing them in the right spot and paying them well in a scientific method. Cause of Production Inefficiency Taylor attributed lack of productivity to soldiering.
