TED
Ted is a dark comedy full of “gut wrenching” laughter, this humorous satire is a film everyone from ages 17 and up should definitely check out. It’s a” must see”, actor/ director Seth McFarland (family guy) in one of his first big screen debuts scores two thumbs up for his sly but exhilarating story plot. Full of “peter griffin” type jokes and witty punch lines McFarland Captures all the fundamental aspects of a summer box office smash. As the plot thickens moviegoers and comedy lovers will experience a hilarious combination of humor and melodrama. There is no doubt that this film covers a logical story plot, comedy and a real life message all in one movie ticket. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Seth McFarland, Mila Kunis and a host of other upcoming stars, the cast is the dead giveaway of a masterpiece in the making.
The story starts off with a kid, (Wahlberg) who made a wish for a friend, not just any friend a “thunder buddy “to keep him company while growing up as a misfit in Boston. His parents bought him a teddy bear for Christmas to cater to their son’s lonely childhood, which came to life after one magical wish was granted. The boy wakes up to find his new teddy bear alive and full of wise cracking jokes with an oath to never leave his side. Time passed and the two became close as brothers, through the golden years of adolescence, young adulthood and even the mid-life crisis ages of the early 30’s.A conflict came about years after Wahlberg met his fiancée (Mila Kunis), causing him to make a life altering decision either lose the love of his life or put down his stuffed animal, best bud “ted”. Kunis began to notice Wahlberg’s ongoing favoritism to the bear and eventually breaks up with him. This dramatic turn of events gets ted and john into a fight that makes them go their separate ways, until the bear reaches out to bring the relationship back together in exchange for his disappearance. All was well until ted was abducted by a psychopath (Giovanni Ribisi) and his estranged son, in which john and his girlfriend had to come to the bear’s aid. A “fairytale” like ending closes the movie with the three realizing they all need each other in a “happily ever after” conclusion. The humor is crazy! Movie critics will die from a humorous script full of laughter! It’s clear to see that the script was critiqued and put together by a comic genius.
The references and slick metaphors provide a “glued to the seat” type of emotion where the viewer’s hang off every word the characters say. It gives you a feel for McFarland’s hit cartoon show “family guy”, some of the formats and climax are very similar to a few of the shows episodes. If the audience is in love with vulgar but undeniably humorous twists then this will reasonably be a fan favorite. It’s as if they took comedy central, put a sentimental twist to it, and added a “south park” satire to it. However, the timing and arrangement of the jokes and one-liners were put in the wrong place or sometimes expressed at non-humorous scenes of the movie. For example, religious viewers could start controversy over the bear being referred to as a “baby Jesus”. In the words of the wise “there is a time and place for everything”, the misplacement of some of the punches generally made a few jokes not funny. The plot was actually more than just a flurry of meaningless stand-up comedy. Tremendous credibility goes out to any director/actor of the comedy genre that can make a melodrama scenario in a comic movie actually worth the wild. Throughout the movie there are quite a few scenes with a “lifetime channel movie, dialogue involved to give viewers a serious side to the film. John and ted turn from boy to men and cub to bear, giving the film the classic “coming-of-age “experience much needed to thicken the story itself. This gives the audience a more detailed look at the main characters upcoming also saw in “The lion king” plot. Not to mention a twist in the conclusion just when all else fails the same wish that made ted brought him back to life. Nowadays, producers and directors stop going for the good endings, or usually replace them with unexpected, pointless twists, but not in this case. On another note, Mark Wahlberg isn’t the funniest guy around he’s noted for more serious movies such as “contraband”, “The Italian job”, and “Fear”. Besides the coming-of-age scenes, the characters didn’t have a detailed breakdown for why And How Certain events came to pass. Lori (Mila Kunis) family was never mentioned or was her way of thinking brought to the storyline. The thing that became more of a minus then a plus is the constant relation and reference to “peter griffin” throughout the movie. It was already understood who narrates ted’s voice without there being a shout out to griffin in the film. That made it seem like a cheap way for McFarland to self-market his previous projects. The interesting note is the Logic, a Christmas setting in the beginning of the movie gives the bear a “Frosty the snowman” vibe, as johns wish brought ted to life during Christmas. An important message that the film brings is some wishes come true as it sheds light on the meaning of friendship and value. On the other hand the over-the-top fight scene between ted and john was pretty lame and unrealistic. It’s one thing for a teddy bear drink and smoke pot, but packing a ferocious jab is doing too much. Besides the fact that it was only for a mature audience due to the explicit content, the actual acting cast should’ve been a little bit more diverse.
Overall the movie was satisfying, with the humorous, script, amazing plot and all though its make-believe it had a lot of logic in it. There should be a sequel to the film with the same family guy story line and “stand-up comedian”, lines by the characters. For a big screen debut as a producer and director Seth Macfarland did an awesome job. Critics are probably looking in disbelief; many didn’t think the family guy writer had this type of genius in his work. At first the expectations were one thumb up as an underdog, after watching the film multiple times it deserves two!

Kramer vs Kramer

...because of how upset she is with their marriage. Fifteen months after the divorce, a legal battle begins to determine who gets to keep their 7-year-old son Billy, which turns into a battle of who believes he loves him more and who should get custody of him. The movie was released in 1979, and was written and directed by Robert Benton. Love is a central theme throughout the movie because of the love that Joanna Kramer, Billy’s mother, and Ted Kramer, Billy’s father, show for each other and for Billy. How much someone cares for another person can sometimes lead him to act without thinking and without the input of that person whom he cares for. This is the case when Joanna leaves Ted in the film Kramer vs. Kramer. Margaret, a friend of both of them, consoles Joanna when she talks about how fed up she is with her husband and that she wants to leave him because she feels so much pain. Joanna shows how much she loves Ted when she leaves Billy with him because she knows that’s where Billy rightfully belongs. Her love is also renewed by seeing how much Ted has grown in taking care of Billy since she left. Ted shows his love for Joanna in a different manner because he portrays it by conveying it in his love for Billy. Joanna’s love for Ted is shown explicitly whereas his love for her is shown...

Color vs. Black-and-White Films

...Regarding the Riding Bull, the primary focus of this film is the characters. Robert De Niro plays the role of Jake LaMotta and plays the character so well, it is as though Robert De Niro lived the life of Jake LaMotta. The characters in this movie were primary focus because they reflect the life of Jake LaMotta and his family; they do not play non-fiction characters. It's rare that a movie with the moniker "based on the life of..." comes across as anything more than sporadically energetic and marginally entertaining. Raging Bull is the perfect counterexample, and a brilliant argument for filmmakers to continue to work in this genre (ReelViews, 2010, para 2). The primary focus on There’s Something about Mary is the plot. The plot in this film is what makes this comedy stand out from other comedy film. The plot in this film builds curiosity to an audience, drawing in much laughter throughout scenes. Without a good plot in this film, it would have been hard to define if this film was funny or not. The sequences of events in this plot are unique and hilarious, drawing much attention to this film. Overriding Purpose Exploring personal growth and change is the overriding purpose in the film the Riding Bull. Towards the end of the movie, Jake LaMotta reflects on his life as he is sitting in a jail cell, reflecting on the mistakes that he made with his wife, brother, and career. Initially in the film, Jake accuses his brother for a lot of his faults saying his brother should...

...Brittney Pipke SOC Mary Leal 3/1/12 Fracture (deviant behaviors) The three main characters of the movie Fracture are Ted Crawford the Murder, Willy Beachum the prosecutor, and Robert Nunally the Lt. these three characters are very different, but they all show some deviant behavior. Their deviant behavior gets them in trouble and bad things happen because of it. The easiest of the main characters that show deviant behavior is Ted Crawford. Ted has many deviant behaviors. The facial expressions that he gives in the whole movie are sneaky and dangerous. The facial expression in them self are to be considered deviant. The most deviant of his behaviors is definitely him taking the time to plot his wife’s murder, so he will get away with it. The fact that he can plan to kill his wife and shot her while looking straight in her face is a very deviant move. I feel the most deviant behavior he showed was the lack of sadness he had for this wife. Even though he said he loved her he still had not sadness for her tragedy. The Lt. Robert is the next easiest to figure out. The lt. deviant behavior is having a relationship with a married woman. He knew she was married, but he still had a relationship with her and didn’t feel guilty that right there is very deviant. I also thought another deviant behavior of his was him not telling anyone that he was the “lover” of the woman that got shot. That was an intentional thing he left out and that ended up causing a lot of problems, he just...

Thirteen Days vs. the Real Cuban Missile Crisis

...The movie Thirteen Days directed by Roger Donaldson is about the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. It is often referred to as a docudrama as it is very entertainment oriented but still remains close to the roots of what actually happened. Since it was produced at a later date than many other films portraying the events, Thirteen Days was able to access recently declassified information which helped in attaining a more historically accurate film. Although there were some discrepancies with what happened in real life compared to the film. The year is 1962 and American surveillance planes discover that the USSR is in the process of placing nuclear ballistic missiles in Cuba. The missiles have a said capability to reach 80 million Americans striking every major city but Seattle. As well they are capable of reaching the majority of the United States Air Force bomber bases effectively crippling their ability to retaliate. It is a race to find a means of removing the missiles before they become operational. Thus the problem for the President is to decide whether to use force or diplomatic means to keep the missiles un-operational. Initial diplomatic attempts to come to a peaceful conclusion fail and the Secretary of Defence proposes a naval blockade which they call a “quarantine” and if the Soviets ignore the blockade, the Navy will forcibly remove the ships from going to Cuba. This would quickly escalate the situation which is clearly what the Secretary of Defence wanted but the President...

Ted Striker In The Film 'Airplane'

...In the movie “Airplane”, Robert Hays portrays Ted Striker who evolves from an unconfident, maladroit young man with a critical “drinking problem” to a self-assured hero. As I have not previously heard of Robert Hays, I had to conduct some research on the type of actor he is. My findings came to me understanding he is nothing short of a serious actor. In this film, he had to portray his serious demeanor while including a comical twist to it. Ted struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from being in the war. This tends to affect his daily activities and helped paved the course he took following the war. In this film, Robert Hays who played Ted was quite the talker. Shown throughout the film is Ted discussing random occurrences throughout...

...Elements of Design I chose the movie clip from the film Scream 2. In this clip there is a movie preview of the movie Stab which is based on the book written by the reporter Gail Weathers from Scream 1. The setting is dark and rowdy with people running around joking. Some movie goers are dressed in the slasher attire complete with the mask and carrying plastic knives. They all seem to be horsing around, running, throwing popcorn, and emulating the slasher character with plastic knives. The camera focuses on a young couple, Maureen and Steven. Maureen is sitting alone when her “boyfriend” Steven with the slasher masked on came back to their seating area unbeknownst to her that her boyfriend was a victim of the real killer and is now dead. Upon her hugging him she finds blood on her hands and the real slasher immediately begins stabbing her multiple times. Although this murder happen in public view, the movie goers assumed it was a part of the show and did nothing as Maureen was killed. The Scream 2 film was a horror flick in one of many other Scream series. The artists involved in the production of this film are; the director Wesley Craven, production designer Robert Zimebicki, and the art director Ted Berner. This team worked hand in hand to deliver a phenomenon horror film. The director Wesley Craven is not new to horror film making. Controit Symphony Orchestra Concert Review Essay

...I attended a performance of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra performing music made by Danny Elfman for Tim Burton films. Each piece focused more on capturing the mood the music captured in that overall movie. Instead of focusing on one composition from each movie, a medley of multiple compositions from the film was made to give an overall feel of each. Compared to the Mozart’s “Little Night Music” performance I attended a week ago, the atmosphere was more relaxed. The patrons for this specific event had dressed more casually or in costume. Since the event was hosted on Halloween, some people wore their costumes to the event. Ted Sperling conducted the performance, and he has won the 2005 Tony Award along with the Drama Desk Award for his orchestrations of The Light in the Piazza. (Ted Sperling) Unlike the Mozart’s “Little Night Music” this performance had the Adrian College Choir singing in most pieces. The choir emphasised on the overall mood bringing each...
