Manging the Mentally Ill Managing the mentally ill is a major issue that needs to be addressed. The definition a mentally unstable person who is threat to himself or others. Examples of mental illness are: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia/psychotic disorders, dementias and eating disorders. These are just five of the most common mental illness there are several more. The point is anyone with a mental disorder like the ones listed above or any other mental illness should not be allowed to have weapons. Anyone experiencing theses illness has a higher chance of snapping. I'm not willing to take that chance are you? I believe one of the first steps we need to do is to make a national registry for anyone that has been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, psychotic disorders, dementias etc. from purchasing a hand gun. We also need to update our gun laws. Federal law only mandates background checks meant to keep convicted felons and people with mental illnesses from legally acquiring guns, but the rules only apply to people who buy weapons from licensed dealers -- meaning that people, including those with mental illnesses, can buy what they please from other individuals at gun shows or elsewhere. At the state level, standards vary and are bedeviled by poor tracking and a lack of coordination with federal authorities, making enforcement spotty. By doing this alone will cut down the amount of people purchasing guns who shouldn't be. It will not eliminate the problem completely but it's a start. I am not targeting the mentally ill. What i am trying to get everyone to understand it's not just being mentally ill that makes people violent. It could a someone who has been diagnosed with depression begins drinking and decided to go kill everyone that has wronged him. Basically its having a disorder and unknown triggers for the particular person which
