...Influencing Key Stakeholders Andrew Demers MGT-665-0663 June 8, 2015 This essay will discuss efforts to influence two key stakeholders at Pyro Presentations. This business is a family owned, and operated fireworks display company based in Oregon. Due to a large number of senior staff members retiring and business expansion, it became prudent to promote junior staff members as well as develop new positions to be filled. This paper will propose a strategy to influence the key stakeholders following the Cohen-Bradford Model of Influence without Authority. Briefly describe a change effort that could be instituted at this organization. This may be an actual change effort that has previously occurred, one that is currently ongoing, or a fictitious one that you believe is appropriate for the organization. Besides the manager and assistance manager positions at Pyro Presentations, there are two general types of employees: the senior staff members and the junior staff members. The power structure hinged on this division of workers. This dichotomy in power worked for many years until the senior staff began retiring. The issue soon became apparent, that with all those once in power retiring, a new power base needed to be formally established amongst the junior staff. Clarifying goals and priorities is the second step in the influence model. The purpose, in this case, is promoting junior staff members and creating new positions to support the expanding business. Identify one...

...1. Introduction---Objective and structure of this report The Chinese fireworks industry has experienced significant change since China adopted "open door policy", moreover, it has huge market share in the world's fireworks market. But on the other hand, the Chinese fireworks industry also has fatal weaknesses. Therefore, whether to invest in this industry is still a considerable challenge to most investors. The objective of this report is to give some suggestions to Jerry Yu on his decision of the investment on Liuyang fireworks industry. Furthermore, some proposals on how to improve the attractiveness and the competitiveness of Chinese fireworks industry at a long-run level are worked out; from personal level, there are some strategic options to Jerry Yu in terms of handling an individual fireworks firm. To achieve this objective, an industry analysis and a market audit are carried out and a gross conclusion is drawn based on the analyses and suggestions. 2. Industrial analysis The aim of this industrial analysis is to outline the situation of the Chinese fireworks industry in conjunction with analyzing the rivalry within this industry through Porter's five forces model (please refer to Appendix). 2.1 The Chinese fireworks industry overview The general belief was that China-made fireworks actually made up about 80% to 90% of the world's fireworks market. But although Chinese fireworks account for most of the world's market, it can be said as a relatively messy industry in terms...

...The Chinese Fireworks Industry Liuyang, a city in Hunan Province in China, is known as “the home of firecrackers and fireworks”. The fireworks making in Liuyang has a long history and tradition in China, and enjoys a high reputation in the domestic market. It was also the top fireworks exporter in the world, covering 60% of the global production. However, the fireworks market in China faced an intensified competition and several legal restrictions. Jerry Yu, who was running a small family-owned chain of gift stores in New York, was asked to invest in a fireworks factory. He has management experience and global insight with an MBA, but he is challenged to decide whether it is worthwhile to invest in it considering the threats it is facing and the weaknesses of the industry. As far as I am concerned, although the downward trend of fireworks consumption (see Exhibit 1) made the whole firework industry seem like a sunset industry, there are still some opportunities for investing this industry and make profit out of it. PEST Analysis Political Factors In the domestic market, local governments have different regulations regarding fireworks consumption. By 1998, one-third of the cities in China had completely banned the use of firecrackers and fireworks. Another one-third only allowed fireworks in designated places. However, in the mid 2000s, several cities eased restrictions on fireworks. In the meantime, the domestic market still lacks pricing regulation and intellectual property...

...You are the manager of Acme Fireworks, a fireworks retailer who sells fireworks, puts on ground display fireworks, and large aerial display fireworks. The company started in the owner’s garage two years ago and now has 15 employees that you manage. The company started as a sole proprietorship, and the owner has never changed the entity. The owner has informed you that the company has received inquiries from several large businesses wondering if the company could create several fireworks displays on a regular basis. The owner told the inquirers that the company could fill such display orders, and a price per display was agreed upon. It was discussed that most of the cost for a fireworks display is for skilled labor, insurance, and the actual service of setting off the fireworks. No other details were discussed. The owner is anticipating that new employees will need to be hired, but he is worried that if the large orders for fireworks displays do not continue, the company will not have the funds to pay the new employees. The owner is now considering changing the business entity, but he does not know what entity to form or how to form it. The owner has asked you to do the following: Determine if the contracts with the businesses will be governed by common law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and explain why. Analyze whether the owner formed a contract with the businesses, and apply the five essential elements of an enforceable contract. Explain the potential personal...

...Deepavali - The Brightest Festival Diwali, popularly called Deepavali in some parts of India, is a festival which we all long for every year. The preparations for Deepavali start long before the festival date. First, the excitement for us would be the new dresses that are bought to be worn for Deepavali. Since Deepavali is a festival for more than 2 days, we have 2 or 3 new dresses. Apart from this all elders visiting us buy us sweets and dresses also. Jeans, T shirts, Trousers and shirts were all bought for me by my parents. The other major excitement for Deepavali is the bursting of crackers and fireworks. This year we burst lot of crackers. Earlier I used to be afraid of crackers. Now I have got over the fear of bursting crackers. My parents tell me that I have to be very careful while bursting. I followed their advice and there was no fire accident also. Sparklers, Rockets, Ground Chakkars and Flower pots were our favorites besides the Thousand thousand sparks bomb. The third rejoicing aspect of Deepavali is the eating of sweets. We visit relatives and friends with sweets and snacks. They also visit us with sweets and snacks. We seek their blessings on the festival day. Gulab jamun, Laddoos, Halwas and Kaju cakes were my favorites. My grandmother tells me that the victory of Good over Evil is the reason for this celebration. She also says that the festival is to mark the return of Rama to Ayodhya after his defeat of Ravana. Lots of people also start new ventures...

...the middle of the scene of people killing each other I just wanted to run. But I couldn’t move. My legs felt numb. It was cold as fear. Strange, Odd, and Curious. Going down the narrow steep road. I notice flashes and fireworks were sparkling from each direction. I knew the purge wasn’t just going to be a normal day. I don’t think this is right. Should everyone let their anger out? The attacks were interrupted when a meteorite fell from the sky nearby the car, which gave the young women time to escape. As I searched the wreck of the car for valuables, my face was scratched by a pale, hairless, eyeless dog-sized creature. The scratch was infected and I needed first aid as soon as possible but there was no time for that as there were creatures everywhere. These creatures were gorilla size, with spiky fur which is so black it reflects no light. They had huge claws and multiple rows of glowing fangs. These are the type of creature that you would see in your worst nightmares, but for me it was a harsh reality that they were right in front of me. The creatures started to furiously run away as the other humans ran towards them, setting fire works on them, trying to kill them. The creatures started screeching and screaming like the sound of a blender as the fireworks came towards them. I had to think quickly on my feet because it seemed as if the creatures were multiplying rapidly, so I decided to lure all the creatures to one place to ambush and kill them at the same time. The best...

...Acme Fireworks Analysis When the determination has been made to change a business’s entity it is important to understand what entity would be best suited for their business needs. Acme Fireworks is a sole proprietorship that is growing fast, the owner is considering changing the business entity. The decision that needs to be made is which entity will best suit their advancing needs. Acme Fireworks can choose between three entities: a partnership, corporation, and limited liability company (LLC). There are pros and cons for each of the different entities. When taking into account the current personal liability, if the contracts already in place are valid, employment needs to fulfill the large orders, and defining the different types of entities, my recommendation for Acme Fireworks would be to become a corporation. Just about everyone in the United States has some personal experience with fireworks, either from Fourth of July or New Year's Eve celebrations. Fireworks have always been dangerous and have caused, and continue to cause, serious and tragic accidents. Every year injuries both minor and major are caused by fireworks. Potential personal liability for injuries to consumers caused by the firework products is inevitable. When the firework explodes, it can send out many burning hot embers, or if it is positioned in the wrong place it can set houses or nature on fire. Fireworks can even be a dangerous weapons in the hands of vandals. However, not all mishaps due to fireworks...

...Imagine a tranquil night in the last day of December. It is still winter just a few years ago. Consider the living room in one of the many houses in Beijing. The main feature of the room is the TV screen surrounded by the flowery sofas and a sharp edged wood table; there is also the ceiling to floor windows that shows vivid motions of the streets and its civilians walking by. The lights of the room are dancing with joy by its sense of voice and excitement rising in the air. A female with neat black-red hair is sitting comfortably on the sofa. She is wearing a warm red turtleneck sweater with comfy grey leggings and her feet heated with a pair of purple socks covered randomly with yellow polka dots. She is ordinary and swift like a light hearted puppy; but due to stress and reduction terms of sleep, her loss of weight is obvious in the shadow of her slim shape. Her face shines the childish laughs as Ellen DeGeneres but different by the look of her skinny cheekbones and the spark of a Chocolate –Hershey bar pair of eyes. Turning on the TV and curling herself into a ball on the couch, she exclaims in delight, “Bring out the snacks and food for the New Year Show!” She is rushing me and the rest of the family to prepare since the show is starting. She is in her mid-forties as I am in my teenage years. The woman is my mother. My dad is here along with my sister and occasionally disputes erupt, but as a family, we try to ignore the pretty ugly flames that prickle our heart at times;...

...my relatives. A few were my cousin’s friends. I could view other terraces from the top my terrace and people all around gathered together because it was some kind of celebration. They were lighting all kinds of spectacular fireworks and smoke was everywhere. Everyone on my terrace got the chance to light the fireworks except me since I was so young. So I went and asked one of my cousins for a small firework that was not dangerous for me. I was allowed to light a small firework and hold it until it burned out by itself. I happily ran around the terrace with the firework in my hand. The terrace was so huge so I went from corner to corner. I was mindful not to get too close to an opening about twelve feet down in the terrace. The big square opening lead to another house and the chickens were kept in that little area. It had walls around it but there were no stairs connecting to the terrace because it was a different house. Suddenly, an older cousin of mine wanted the firework for himself. I did not want to give it to him because it was my first time playing with fireworks. I kept backing off but my cousin kept following me trying to snatch it out of my hands. He kept telling me that I was too young for it and he really needed it to light another firework but I kept on...

...Chemistry behind Fireworks Did you know that when you see a commercial fireworks display you are looking at chemistry in action. You may have asked yourself “I wonder what is going on to make all those pretty colors and patterns” It is controlled chaos!! I tell you. Let us break this down to the basic we will start with a typical shell. Starting at the bottom we have a lifting charge which contains good ole black powder. The lifting charge gets the party started by creating an explosion after it is ingnited by the fuse. An explosion occurs which produces hot rapidly expanding gases . This is an example of the “Law of Volumes” which is an experimental gas law which describes how gases tend to expand when heated. Since all the kenetic energy is contained in a tube the shell has no place to go but up. This is Newton’s third law in action which states (in laymans terms) “for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction”. The next two stages in the process happen almost simultaniously the bursting charge, explodes out ward dispersing the pellets or stars which give us our colors and patterns. This happens when the ariel shell is at the apex of its climb via a time delay fuse. Chemical Agents Oxidizer, what is an oxidizer? The word "burning" describes the oxidation of a fuel in air. A campfire, for instance, uses oxygen from the air to turn wood (cellulose) into steam (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), among other things. So why do fireworks need an oxidizer...
