Alhashmi School of Information Technology Monash University Email: saadat.m.alhashmi@infotech.monash.edu.my Abstract Electronic commerce (EC) offers many benefits to organizations of any size including small to medium- sized enterprises (SMEs). At this stage, there is still a need for a better understanding of the potential and relevance of EC in developing countries as well as the behaviour of SMEs towards EC adoption. Moreover, there is still a need for a holistic view of how various widely known factors at the organization, industry and national levels affect EC adoption. Therefore, this study proposes a theoretical model of EC technologies adoption by SMEs in developing countries by incorporating various readiness factors identified in the literature that may determine EC technologies adoption by SMEs in developing countries. It then explores the influence of these factors on the adoption of different EC technologies. The environmental pressure is also considered in this study. Through a survey of SMEs within the grocery industry in Malaysia as an example of a developing country, the study demonstrates how various readiness factors influence the adoption of various EC technologies differently...

...The Impact of market orientation on business performance and website adoption: a study among iranian smeS Yasaman Darabi Division of Industrial Marketing and E-commerce, Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran ABSTRACT Studying the impact of market orientation on business performance has been a popular research topic in recent years. However, there seems to be a lack of empirical studies that measure market orientation in an e-commerce environment. According to previous studies market orientation is a prerequisite for a successful business operation, but actually there is not enough evidence in support of this relationship in an Iranian context and particularly about the impact of market orientation on the perception of managers toward having websites. To test these assertions, this study looks into the nature of the relationships between market orientation, company performance and website adoption using 117 website adopters and 102 non-website adopters as sample data from Iranian SMEs. Narver and Slater’s scale (MKTOR) for market orientation, Weerakoon’s Multi-Model Performance Framework (MMPF) for business performance and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for website adoption are tested and used. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to validate the measures in the study. Regression analysis was performed to determine whether market orientation is associated with firm’s performance and website adoption using the Partial Least Square (PLS) technique. Our findings suggest that...

...ERP IN MANUFACTURING SECTOR Group :6 Anubhav Chaturvedi (15) Anirudh Mishra (36) Amol Singh (57) Rohit Patil (60) INTRODUCTION ERP systems have traditionally been used by capital-intensive industries such as manufacturing, Services etc. Manufacturing firms are facing new challenges and in order to stay competitive many manufacturing operations require to be regularly updated with the Information Technology solutions. The manufacturing sector is one of the main economic activities in most of the nations. The most important aspect to characterize IT adoption is the industry and its specific characteristics rather than the country the firms belong to. Different industries have different operating characteristics and environments, and the factors related to ERP use may differ accordingly. Given the complexity of manufacturing firms, we then decide which aspects of a firm influence the use of technological innovations. Most of the manufacturing companies rely on ERP software to manage the entire range of business activities from CRM, manufacturing inventory and processes, accounting software, manufacturing planning, purchasing, quality, and more. For implementing ERP in any manufacturing industry the research objectives revolve around the following parameters(Mainly cost and quality measurement) * To identify whether there is significant difference in performance measures like cost and quality in industries with well defined IT system and industries with not such well...

...relative technology devices with marketing strategies. As a result, terms such as online marketing, digital marketing, Internet marketing, electronic marketing, and even hypermedia marketing had been used for elaborating the new concept of marketing. However, online marketing, Internet marketing and E-marketing will be used frequently interchangeable and can often be considered synonymous (Gilmore et al., 2007). Although there is still no fixed nomenclature for this modern marketing strategy (Dholakia,2005), the term “E-marketing” would be used hereafter in this article. This article attempts to focus on how E-marketing is defined in research and discuss its adoptions and advantages for enterprises. It is imperative to distinguish between two commonly used and easily confused terms (E-business and E-commerce) before discussing E-marketing. According to Krishnamurthy (2006), E-business is an overarching term that describes how businesses run on the Internet or Web, and utilize Internet technologies to improve the productivity or organizational performance. On the other hand, E-commerce focuses entirely on the Internet or web to facilitate commercial transactions and even includes almost any transactional event in nature in real world, such as banking, stocks and bonds trading, auctions, retail shopping and so on. In addition, there are three popular types of E-commerce: business to business, business to customer, and customer to customer. Similarly, in terms of E-marketing...

...HE, President Mwai Kibaki, presides over the official ground breaking of Konza Technology City. January 2013 2 0 1 7 1 2 Hon. Samuel L.Poghisio, EGH, MP Minister for Information and Communications Minister’s Statement Access to information is crucial to economic growth. Information and communications technology offer a powerful tool that, if deployed equitably, can ensure citizens are empowered and Government can deliver services more effectively. Information is vital for the efficient delivery of public and private sector product and services that are responsive to the needs of citizens and businesses as well as capacity creation. For a variety of reasons (economic and policy), developing countries like Kenya are less equipped to take advantage of the potential in ICT to stimulate growth, and are likely to fall behind advanced economies. The Kenya ICT Master Plan is therefore not designed in isolation, given that there is evidence from developed countries that investment in ICT facilitates economic growth by increasing productivity. As the Kenya Government ensures an enabling ICT environment and regulatory framework, this plan aims at stimulating the setup of ICT-related businesses to enhance employment creation. At the heart of this document is a strategic intent to develop a robust ICT sector that will enhance economic growth through creation of businesses and hence employment. In the execution of this plan, Kenya will become a leading ICT hub...

...ADVANTAGES OF E-COMMERCE: Firstly, Under ecommerce information flows more quickly and in more directions than in the traditional business giving businesses opportunities to access more market at low cost and with minimal capital investment and few staff. In this way the information flow improves competitiveness and customer service, reduces transaction costs and overheads while avoiding traditional limitation of restricted access to information. A large proportion of information between organizations or individuals may be easily handled electronically including quoting or submitting of tenders, ordering, etc. Secondly, E-commerce saves time and money (43) and the risk of lost or damaged documents is reduced when documents are transmitted electronically in a form of data message or attachments. The innovation and the use of EDI facilitate the placing and dispatching of orders between commercial undertakings (44). Thirdly, e-commerce offers great opportunities to both business and consumers at a cheap rate (45). Business person cannot necessarily meet with their consumers when transacting business electronically thus saving both time and transport costs. It offers businesses access to a wider, potentially global physical outlet. It enables customers of both goods and services to choose from a wide range of suppliers electronically than is possible using traditional means. From Malaysian case study According to Auger et al. (1997) Internet has eliminated the geographical...
