...had one son, Hindley, and one daughter, Catherine. One day Mr. Earnshaw took a trip to Liverpool. He came back with a young boy, Heathcliff. Although Hindley did not like him, the daughter Catherine approved of him. Catherine and Heathcliff spent every day playing with each other and eventually grew to love each other. When they became older, Catherine decided to marry a man named Edgar Linton instead of Heathcliff. Heathcliff was so mad that he left the house, called Wuthering Heights, for three years. He returned soon after Edgar and Catherine got married. Heathcliff is still infuriated and wants to get revenge on everyone who did not treat him well. Hindley started drinking heavily after his wife died from giving birth to his son Hareton. Heathcliff gives money to Hindley to gamble with. When Hindley died, Heathcliff inherited Wuthering Heights. In order to get back at Catherine for getting married, he marries a woman, Isabella, who lives four miles away at a place called Thrushcross Grange. Soon after, Catherine gives birth to a daughter, also named Catherine, but dies giving birth. Isabella moved to London because Heathcliff did not treat her properly. While she was there, she gave birth to Heathcliff’s son, Linton. About twelve years later, Heathcliff went to London and got his son. Edgar did not let his daughter Catherine leave the house so she had no idea Wuthering Heights was close by. One day Catherine sneaks out and finds...

...recent research about family history I learned a lot about how things have changed over time. Dating is a lot different now than it was many years ago, marriage is totally different, as well as many other things. I interviewed a few people from my family as well as people close to my family. It’s very interesting to find out how things have changed drastically since our grandparents were born. The things that we find normal today were looked down upon in the 50’s. But the most interesting thing was getting to know people on a more personal level. My interviewees consist of Louise, 65, Robert, 60, Mary, 44, Larry, 42, Michele, 24, and Edward, 21. The first group of people interviewed was a 44-year-old woman name Mary and 42-year-old Larry. Mary was born in 1970 and grew up in the 90’s. Larry was born in 1972 and also grew up in the same time period. The societies were totally different then than it is now. Getting married at a young age was unheard of in that era. The people that were married were at least 30-40 years old. Society wasn’t much different from what it is now. People were hooking up with each other back then just like they are now. Society is pretty much the same but the only thing that really changed is the technology we have now and the different social medias. Marriage for Mary was highly unlikely because she didn’t find anyone she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. But for Larry he always wanted to get married one day, but just didn’t know exactly when...

...Morganne Truesdale Instructor: Alling ENC 1101.77 June 24, 2013 Essay #1: Saying “I Do” What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think “marriage”? Do you smell a home cooked meal waiting on the table, after a long-hard day at work? Do you picture a beautiful home with a white picket fence? Maybe you think about a gorgeous white dress, that was altered to fit you just right. Or maybe it’s not white at all because your favorite color is black, and you refuse to be cliché on what’s supposed to be the most important day of your life. Maybe you see half of everything you own being taken out from under you if this whole “marriage thing” goes south, and that’s just not a chance you’re willing to take. Maybe the thought of being committed to one person for the rest of your life frightens you, and all of a sudden that beautiful woman standing next you is looking more like a prison warden, rather than your future wife. Whatever your views or opinions on marriage may be one things for certain; no one ever walked down the aisle, said their vows, and pledged before God and everyone most precious to them expecting to fail. Marriage was not always based on the idea of two people falling in love and wanting to spend the rest of their lives together. In the 1800’s marriage was not just regarded as the joining of two people, but the joining of families, businesses, and wealth. Many women had suitors pre-arranged for them by their fathers. Although most marriages were...

...Prince Charming (NOT!) I met John* when I was sixteen-years-old. We dated on and off in high school and several years after high school. I actually married someone else when I was twenty-three, all the time wishing it was him. I even daydreamed about him coming to the church and standing up when the preacher said “Is there anyone here who has any reason that this couple should not wed?”! (You know the scene, a knight in shining armor on a white horse who whisks you away and you live happily ever after.) But I wanted to be married, and he didn’t stop the wedding, so I was married to another man for about a year. I finally realized that I was not, and would never be, in love with him, so we divorced. Not long after that I started dating John. We dated for about a year and then married. I should’ve known that it wasn’t going to be a great marriage. There were red flags everywhere. But with my rose-colored glasses on, I didn’t pay too much attention to them. The newlywed phase was great. We went places and did things together (like couples should). But after that first year and the first child, things went downhill. I had always worked, but now found myself a stay-at-home mom (to a beautiful baby girl!) and housewife. After a while, the walls began to close in on me. I felt trapped. We never did anything together anymore, nor as a family. John loved to fish and hunt and that took up most of his free time when he wasn’t working. Hudnall 2 So...

...completely different path? Well my name is Lindsee and I am going to tell you about how I’ve dealt with this for the past year and a half. Just to give you my relationship timeline in a nutshell: I met Brett in August of 2012. Two weeks after we met he went to boot camp and training for the Marine Corps. That was six long months of barely seeing each other or talking. We wrote many letters and talked as much as we could, which was not a lot at all. He came home in March, in June he found out he was deploying to Afghanistan some time soon, and proposed to me in July. After debating possibilities for a few days, we decided to get married before he left. We planned an entire wedding and were married two weeks after the engagement. We got to have a week and a half of married life before he had to leave. So for the next few minutes I would like to tell you how we overcame the criticism, what life is like being married to a Marine at such a young age, and what I would do differently if I could rewind time. Brett was in boot camp for 3 months, with no communication except for snail mail. After that he went to more training, and then to schooling. Six months of almost no communication outside of letters. You can believe that people were calling me insane for being so devoted to a guy I knew for two weeks before he left. I was told it wouldn’t last, he would be different when he came home, Marines are all the same, blah blah blah. After he got home and we were stronger than ever, people began...

...My name is Sophia and I have been married for the past 9 yrs, I’m blessed with 3 kids (2 boys and a girl) and I have the most amazing hubby. I’m trying to correct the notion that all marriages are wacky, which is not true. It wouldn’t be nice if some single girls out there don’t get to know that marriages can work if you make it happen. I got married 9yrs ago to my hubby, we dated for a year and got married. My friends were like it was too soon since we barely know our selves, I was staying in Abuja while him in Lagos, I just come occasionally to visit him, so after a year, we figured it was time to move to the next level which was very amazing. We got married and I started living the life of a married woman. We loved each other so much but there were things we did not know about each other since it was long distance hence it posed a problem for us. I had very bad mouth as of that time. I do like to challenge everyone including him which he didn’t like. We argued a lot which ends up with several beatings. The first time my hubby hit me, I ran to my aunt’s place and later went back home, it happened again and again, but the whole thing was after the beatings, he comes back to say sorry and to tell me how the things I said to him really did hurt and how he’s hot tempered and I’m hot tempered and all. After a year, I told myself I had to work on myself, I stopped talking too much, prayed more often and asked God to help me with my temper, I stopped challenging him and always make...

...Blaine Ketchum English Comp. 1 Dr. Rogers “Was-His” Mr. and Mrs. Banks are a married couple who seem to just not know what it means to be just that. Years of marriage and nothing seemed to ever change arguments days in and nights out. They have plenty fights and scary arguments yet they are still married as if nothing was wrong at all. The last argument that I clearly heard was over why there was no jelly left. Seriously, come on; of all things to argue about you choose jelly. It is like they can find anything to argue about, no matter how small or how large. I hear and see these altercations all the time because I have been their neighbors for a little over five years now. One day I had just got finished with cutting my grass in the front, and they were arguing the whole time in the car. As soon as I got done they got out arguing still as if all that time did not resolve anything at all. How these two are still married I have no idea. I still like them; they are good people, just not with each other. I cannot complain though because I was in a similar situation as them and I ended up in a happy mutual divorce and everything worked out for us. So hopefully they will end up the same happy or become happy together. We live in Mobile, Alabama, but I am not sure where their residence was before they moved here in the bama. There have been such beautiful days and nights here, but I never see them take advantage of that and enjoy some quality time. They have pretty much...

It was September 16, 2011. I tried to gather all my thoughts, so I can greet them properly. My step siblings were running towards me, eager to meet their older sister, and also the sister they never knew. Right next to my dad, I saw my stepmother with blank expression on her face, avoid of any emotion. Also 4 of my siblings were standing on the left side of my dad. I can saw the happiness on their faces. After seeing her expression, I didn’t know what to think. I was scared of how I will live with her during my stay, but I tried to be brave like a lion. In my mind, am thinking, ‘’oh god, I had fallen through a trapdoor of depression. After hugging and kissing everyone, we all got in the car and drove away. Driving through the city, seemed to last for infinity, streets are not built, due to the lack of government. Pedestrians, cares, and donkeys all use the same lane. The roads are full of rocks and not constructed at well. The reason being is, Somali is torn by warlords. Therefore the country’s infrastructure is completely lost, after the fall of Said Barre. ...Romeo and Juliet Essay Romeo and Juliet’s story is not a story of true love. Why you ask? The following reasons apply; Romeo and Juliet said “I love you” on the first night they met. Also, they got married the next day, and they barely saw each other, how could they know it was love. Romeo could have turned out to be someone Juliet did not expect or the other way around. First and foremost, Romeo and Juliet said “I love you” on the first night they met. This could not be true because all true love takes time, they did not take anytime to get to know each other. Saying this could have just been out of excitement and an imagination of what their first love will be like. In that era they did not have a lot to do so some would have gotten very...

...other tenses or verbs? I highlighted in pink the other tenses. Are those changes the same in your language? (past - present) I'm going to speak about my past weekend. ("going to" future) What did I do on my last weekend? Let me think… Oh, yes! I remember! My cousin George got married last Saturday, so I went to his wedding. I live in Madrid, but he got married in Toledo, so my brother picked me up and we drove to Toledo for his wedding. On Saturday, I got up very early -- at eight. I had a shower and I had breakfast (some orange juice and cookies) and I went to get the wedding present. I gave them an etching by Miquel Barceló. He is a Spanish painter and my cousin and I love him! Then I walked to the hairdresser's. I hate going to the hairdresser's. It hurts! But it was necessary!! (eek!) After that, I had a sandwich and a soft drink for lunch. Then I got dressed for the wedding. I wore a beautiful blue dress, dark blue shoes a blue handbag, an orange coat and a pair of gold earrings. My brother and I set off for Toledo at about three. We all met at the church. (I am a non-believer, but it was my cousin's wedding!) Then, my cousin and his fiancée got married! (I'll never get married! It's a promise!) I said hello to them and to our family, and I met his friends. After the wedding we went to a restaurant. We had dinner. Everything was delicious! After dinner we had cake and champagne, too! I was full! And after that we went to a disco. I met a very nice man...

...My grandfather (father’s father) has been married twice. His first wife divorced him 6 months after he got married to her because he was very poor and could not fulfill all of her wishes. They have a daughter from first marriage. He married my grandmother in the same year he got divorced from his first wife in the year 1953. His financial conditions improved after he got a divorce from his first wife. His behavior was very different towards his second wife. He was very controlling of my grandmother. He often used cuss words to address her. This was from the beginning of the marriage. There could be a possibility that he might have developed some kind of hatred towards women because of his first wife leaving him and he took out that hatred on my grandmother. She was however, a very subdued kind of person. She never retaliated to it. I wasn’t there to witness their entire relationship, but from what I have heard, his behavior towards my grandmother did not improve during their entire marriage. My grandmother used to complaint to my grandfather that their daughter in laws misbehaved with her and did not give her the respect that she deserved. However, my aunts deny doing that. The only reason that I can think of her behaving this way is because she wanted to gain sympathy from my grandfather. She wanted his attention and love, which she never received. He died because of Liver cancer. He was firstly diagnosed with jaw cancer and later on with liver cancer. He was an alcoholic and...
