The Deciding Factor

It’s election tine again. It’s the time when voters are given the task to elect leaders for the Philippine nation. Surely, the 2013 Philippine National Elections will bring out the best in the Filipinos.

People of all ages are affected by the National Elections in many ways. Citizens are given the heavy responsibility on deciding who will represent their voices in the government. People always identify elections as the time when bribing is at its highest and crimes are more rampant than ever. Young voters, who are the teenagers and young adults, usually get confused with whom to elect. More often than not, young voters “go with the flow”. They vote for the most popular or “coolest” candidate. Old voters are those who are aged in the 30s-50s age bracket. Old voters vote for the “radicals”, the movers and shakers of today’s society, as what they would call it.

But how do we, the voters, ensure we are making the right decision?

For starters, voters should take time to know the political parties running for office. They key to decision making is “goal planning”, set your priorities for the future. What is it exactly do you want for our government officials to achieve? The best thing to be is to be involved. Involve yourself in local issues and what’s happening around the nation. A Filipino is one who is aware of the local and international news that involve every one of us. Election time is when each Filipino’s nationalism is strengthened and deepened, the love for one’s country is tested and intensified.
The worst thing a person can do is to be indifferent towards the whole issue of national elections. To not vote is choosing to not care. National Elections give us the power to voice out our opinions and exercise our right of suffrage. In reality, our government official would not be in office if it weren’t for the voters. Each one

Deciding Factors on Equine Competitions

...Deciding Factors on Equine Competitions Are you in a position to decide which discipline is right for you, in the field of Equine competition? Western Pleasure horses and Hunt Seat horses are the same usually in primary care ,but their competitions and how they are judged are very different. Let’s see if we can define which would be better for your interest. Western Pleasure horses use some of the same movements as the Hunt Seat horse but are usually preferred to be slower in speed, and a more collective flowing movement, using a flat footed four beat walk, a slow two beat diagonal gait with a level topline when they jog, and their lope is fluid relaxed, smooth natural stride considerably slower than the Hunt Seat horse. The Hunt Seat horse should convey a long flowing, ground covering stride with some degree of impulsion. For their trot, it is a two beat gait that stays collected, ground covering, and engages the hindquarters causing a longer sweeping stride, with front legs sweeping out in front of the nose. Their canter is a natural three beat gait movement similar to the ‘western lope” but more fluid ground covering and with more speed while maintaining a level topline and a sweeping balanced motion. They are to be extremely cleaned and well groomed. They are expected to be whisker free and no unnecessary hair is to be apparent. They usually both have a clipped path behind their ears called a “bridle path” their ears are to be shaven on the insides...

Overcoming Obstacles Of Decision Making In Post-Secondary Education

...and insert the deciding factors of their choice. “A model first identifies specific criteria to be used in making a decision, then allows the decision makers to assess how well competing options meet those criteria” (The Futurist 45). Not only can these factors be listed, but they can also be weighted based on importance. For example, when buying a house, the buyer may feel that having a pool is more important than having a three-car garage. Because of this, whether or not a house has a pool plays a greater influence in the decision to purchase the home. Then, once the deciding factors have been weighted, the user will then fill out the remainder of the matrix by scoring the deciding factors for each...

Evaluate the View That Voting Behaviour in the Usa Is Determined More by the Socio-Economic Characteristics of the Voters Than by Issues, Candidates and Events. (30 Marks)

...Evaluate the view that voting behaviour in the USA is determined more by the socio-economic characteristics of the voters than by issues, candidates and events. (30 marks) It is commonly argued that voting behaviour in the USA is determined more by the socio-economic characteristics (religion, race, gender and age) of the voters than by issues, candidates and events. Arguments that support the question include race being an influence, religion being an influence and gender being an influence in all of the recent elections. However, there is evidence to suggest that issues and candidates are the deciding factors in an election. Firstly, many argue that in the U.S. race has large influence in voting behaviour. For example, in 2012, 93% of African Americans voted for Obama as did 71% of Hispanics. This suggests that racial minorities are more likely to favour Democrats, because of their liberal attitude on issues that are more likely to affect ethnic minorities, as seen with Obama’s promised immigration reform in 2012. This is also seen in the UK, where the Labour party have typically performed better amongst racial minorities. However, some would argue that this is not always the case. The African-American vote for Democrats has been stable (80%+) for over 30 years, but the Hispanic vote has not. Hispanics are typically swing voters. For example, on social issues such as abortion/same-sex marriage, some Hispanics tend to take a more social-conservative stance which attracted...

Answer: From the scenario for Katrina’s Candies, assuming the absence of quantitative data, determine the qualitative forecasting techniques that could be used within this scenario. Quantitative data are anything that can be expressed as a number, or quantified. Examples of quantitative data are scores on achievement tests, number of hours of study, or weight of a subject. These data may be represented by ordinal, interval or ratio scales and lend themselves to most statistical manipulation. Qualitative data cannot be expressed as a number. Data that represent nominal scales such as gender, socieo economic status, and religious preference are usually considered to be qualitative data.  Both types of data are valid types of measurement, and both are used in education journals. Only quantitative data can be analyzed statistically, and thus...

Man on the Environment

... The Right to an Abortion Abortion is a subject that sparks great debate there is no grey area, you are either for or against abortion. In the era that we live in today, moral standards are ever changing and decisions placed under a microscope. Abortions are becoming justified, acceptable and should be the choice of the woman holding the fetus. The reason for this choice is government makes the mistake of being involved in the choice of its individual people. As you turn on your television set and see matters of abortion being discusses, it is hard to rule out the religion, and science. These subjects will always cause friction when educating people about human life. Abortion is more than a procedure, it has psychological factors, and it has short-term and long-term effects. There are financial matters as well and those who bears the overall long-term effect, society or the individual needs to be addressed as well when speaking about abortions. The Supreme Court of the United States has been involved in highly publicized cases of abortion; Rowe v Wade, Gonzales v. Carnhart, Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of New England, are to name a few. The Supreme Court is the highest form of court system in the United States to decide these matters. The state should allow the people having the abortions to establish their own guidelines so they can govern these laws and regulations. Supply & Demand

...When price and quantity demanded are concerned, supply and demand are the deciding factors. Producers and consumers decide the price in different ways. Producers determine the price by deciding what the worth is relative to the potential profit. Consumers vote with their wallets to tell producers how to set the price of the product. The price must be set at a point that effectively balances the supply and demand of the product. This gives worth to both the buyer and the seller. This will theoretically give the producer the most profit. My small ice cream cream stand, “Ice-Campusades,” has both the supply and price of ice cream remain constant. Due to these variables remaining constant, the shifts in demand can be observed more carefully. When ice cream remains unsold, it means that the supply is greater than the demand, or, there is a surplus of ice cream. When there is not enough ice cream for the number of customers, this means that the demand is greater than the supply, or that there is a shortage. As stated before, the supply and price remain constant, so the demand is the only factor that changes here. Since it can be observed as a lone dynamic variable, we will focus on why it shifts. The most obvious factor that can shift the demand curve is a change in consumer preference or taste. While ice cream is a delicious treat that many crave year-round, an individual may find a preference in another good. Sometimes in the country there is a trend in desserts. One instance...

During the test market phase, two line of product was created; the Echelon, aimed for the high end market, and the JetSetter, aimed towards the travelers. These brands were also priced below the price that customers are willing to pay. Discounts were also given to reduce the price even further to attract customers to these brands. In Quarter 2, the decision was made to rename the Echelon line to Mercedes, and a new line, the Workhorse line, was added. This was decided as TCB’s management wanted to cover all three markets in order to gauge the profitability of each market. The Mercedes and Jetsetter lines were modified to align them more towards the customer’s needs and wants. Based on the performance reports from Quarter 2, during Quarter 3, TCB decided to realign all three lines. The Jetsetter line was renamed to Traveller to emphasize that this line is catering to the travelers. Each line was modified based on customer’s feedback, and each line was given the “v2” signature to emphasis on the newly improved version of the lines. The pricing strategy was kept the same, and the advertising campaign was modified to emphasize on the modified lines. In Quarter 4, a new line was added. Public vs Private Universities

...Kaylah Hampton Mrs. Sellers English IV November 18 2013 Public vs. Private All high school seniors nationwide and even some juniors have heightened responsibility and many more difficult decisions to make. One of the main decisions is deciding on a plan for schooling after finally throwing their caps in the blue sky on graduation night. When considering and picking the most comfortable university for the student, there are many different factors to think long and hard about: seeing if the school offers the major of their choice or something that is of interest to them, deciding on a comfortably located university that fits each student's living situation perfectly, signing up and acquiring financial aid, and deciding on a public or private university. One of the factors mentioned should not be a factor at all. Students should not have to worry about struggling to afford a supposedly better education at a private instution versus a public institution. The major difference between private and public institutions is how they are funded and how they use their funds. (Public University vs. Private College) Public insitutions were mostly founded by state governments as early as the 1800s. (Public University vs. Private College) Because most public universities are founded by public funds, the tuition is significantly lower. This is where public and private institutions differentiate. Private universities rely mostly on tuition and private contributions for funding. (Public...

Imagine that you are renting a studio apartment and have just discovered you are having a baby. Your present apartment is small and far from schools and local services. You have decided to move. There are many factors that come into play when making such a large and weighty purchase. Examine the decision-making process from the perspective of an economist. In your Final Project, you use these principles and other factors to make a final decision whether to buy a house. Purchasing a home for the first time can be overwhelming. A house can be the largest investment someone makes. It can provide advantages, but it can present disadvantages as well. The following principles can be used when deciding to purchase your first home:  People Face Trade-offs (Mankiw, 2007)  The Cost of Something Is What You Give Up to Get It (Mankiw, 2007) When deciding to purchase a home, the principle “People Face Trade-offs” can be applied to help make a final decision. Making decisions requires trading off one goal against another (Mankiw, 2007). The buyer must sacrifice a little to gain a lot. First time home buyers must realize that it takes a lot of money to purchase a home. Buyers must sacrifice...

So many choices make the level of involvement for the consumer extremely high with all the involvement factors. Many factors are based on the hardware of the computer. Lease Versus Purchase Paper

...Leasing versus Purchasing Team A FIN 370 October 19, 2015 Ms. Yvonne Downer Leasing versus Purchasing Firms are facing financing decisions on a daily basis such as the length of the obligation they want to incur’. Firms have to decide whether it is short-term of less than a year, long-term for twenty years or more or something in between. Intermediate debt is debt that is between five and ten years in length and is either term loans or a lease on real estate or equipment. A firm will consider many factors in deciding whether to take a loan for the purchase of the asset to be used or to lease the asset. Herbert Mayo lists several variables firms that should be looking at when deciding to buy or to lease “These include the firm’s tax bracket, the terms of the lease, the asset’s anticipated residual value, and the cost of obtaining funds to buy the asset (Pg. 589)”. The firm must also conduct a cost analysis to determine which method will be the most cost effective to the firm by determining the present value of both purchasing and leasing the asset. The firm will purchase the asset if the costs are less than the cost of leasing, and will lease the asset if the costs of leasing are less than the cost of purchasing. The firm must also decide if they what ownership of the asset. (Mayo, H.B., 2012) Leasing or renting, is a contractual obligation between a lessee, the person leasing, and a lessor, which is the owner of the asset being leased. Leasing contracts can...

Who Gets the Liver

...comes to the organ market. People die daily while waiting on their new organ. The topic of distribution of procured organs brings many ethics questions into focus. The biggest of these in my opinion is deciding who will receive the procured organ. I was given the task of deciding who would receive a liver from a list of four potential recipients in an imaginary scenario. The four patients all have a rare tissue type and it is unlikely that another liver will be available that will match for months or even years. Patient number one is a 65-year-old male with four adult children whose wife depends on him for care of a debilitating illness. His liver was damaged by cirrhosis due to alcoholism. Patient number two is a 35-year-old female who is married with two small children. Her liver damage was caused by a chronic illness. Patient number three is a 21-year-old single male whose liver was damaged by a Tylenol overdose. Patient number four is a 28-year-old female who is married with 5 children under the age of 10. She is an illegal immigrant farm worker whose liver was damaged due to exposure to a chemical that was sprayed on the crops where she works. Very little information was given on each person. The first piece of information that would be a real deciding factor for me that was not mentioned was how compliant each patient would be with medical treatments. Without knowing this, it is very difficult to try to predict outcomes after surgery. So, given the little...

Comparative Essay Pistol or Revolver

... Citizens consider many aspects when choosing a handgun for defensive purposes such as ammunition capacity, ease of operation, reliability, and conceal ability. Many factors affect people when choosing a handgun for defensive use, but in the end it comes down to personal preference, the mission intended for the firearm, and skill level of the person when deciding on whether to pick a semi-automatic pistol or revolver for concealed carry. Semi-automatic pistols tend to hold more ammunition than a revolver. Most semi-automatic pistols carry anywhere from six rounds to eighteen rounds, whereas, a revolver usually carries anywhere from five rounds to eight rounds depending on the model. Semi-automatic pistols have replaced most revolvers in the inventories of police departments and military units due to issues concerning magazine capacity. Most individuals tend to go towards a semi-automatic pistol due to the amount of firepower that can be brought to a gun fight versus a revolver. However, revolvers are regarded to be used in a more defensive role versus an offensive role. In this type of scenario a revolver would be used in a role for someone needing protection from being robbed from one or two subjects instead of going up against a room full of Mexican drug cartel criminals. Ammo capacity is a factor that comes down to personal preference, training, and the mission intended...

Sociology Essay

...Examine the view that theoretical issues are the important factor influencing sociologist’s choice of research methods (20 marks) Sociologists’ opinions differ among theoretical factors being the more important against other factors such as practical and ethical in influencing method choice. Positivists believe that sociological research should produce quantitative data e.g. official statistics and social surveys) as they identify and explain variable relationships between variables this is good for offering comparative explanations. They like data that is reliable, objective and representative; data allows the researcher to establish facts over interpretation. An example is the through using official statistics. Quantitative data shows a cause and effect relationship between two variables. An example would be Durkheim’s le suicide. Emile Durkheim created a hypothesis that suicide was related to the extent an individual was integrated into society. The less integrated the more suicidal. Quantitative research is theoretically positive this is because generally is more generaliasable and it’s able to be applied through triangulation. This would influential in choice of research method as this method is only applicable to some research and not in the case of true understanding of the research. Interpretivists however believe the opposite; that society cannot be studied through numerical data and you need verstehen to be able to truly understand cause and effect. Society is...
