...I wish could look into the future! I don’t think I would wish to see the future, what would the fun be in that. If I could see the future there would be now meaning in living, because I would already know what would happen to me. Also I knew that something bad would happen to me and I couldn’t do anything about it, I would go insane. So I don’t understand why people can wish for it. On the other hand it is tempted to know if you get the dream job you always had dreamed of. If I would or demand to look into the future but I could choose what I would see I would probably chose to see if I got married, not who I would marry for that should be a secret for me. I would also like to see if I got a good job which doesn’t make me miserable. That would be that, there are no other things that I would like to see, for like in the movies, you can’t change the future it will always end up biting you in the butt. That’s also why I don’t want to see the future that includes me. But if I could see the future itself, like if the planet still is here in 50 years or if there comes a war. Still I think we should let the future be and just live in the present, then the future will...

...Assignment #6: “A Brighter Future” Draft Essay Chelsea Manzanares ENG 090- Writing Fundamentals Brinda Surendar June 3, 2014 A Brighter Future Draft When I was younger, and was in high school, I did not see school as important as it is for me now. I just saw school as a place to go and hang out with friends, and have a good time. Which meant only doing my homework and school work as mediocre as possible. Everything to get it out of the way and to at least get a passing grade. and now I realize that school is the key to a brighter future I now want to be a role model to my nieces, make my future more successful and most importantly to make my parents proud To begin with, my oldest niece is always looking up to me, and says one day she wants to grow up and be like me. it’s a big responsibility that I have on top of me. I would not want her to take school for granted. My niece wants to do her hair like me; she wants to dress like me. For that same reason, I want her to see that school is important to me. Second, I want my future to be successful. Currently I'm not working, because I decided to go full-time to school. While I was working; I didn’t not like the salary, nor the hours, or the place I was standing at the moment. I didn’t see myself going anywhere it was a dead end. I knew if I didn’t get a degree I wouldn’t be able to see a brighter future. The most important reason to why I started college now is to make my parents proud. Unfortunately my...

...The adolescence that we see today in the United States of America’s more urban areas seem to have a different perspectives on the ideas of the importance of school, career endeavors, and their futures overall when compared to those generations that have come before them. We are unsure of the exact reasons that this first began happening, but there are many ideas as to what could bring this about. These items include attitudes toward academics, peer and environmental pressures that surround them, and how they truly see their lives going in the future. Jay McLeod does a great job taking a closer look at all of these things in his book entitled, “Ain’t No Makin’ It” and in this paper we will take a closer look at his evaluations of the people he did this research with. When speaking of the ways in which today’s urban adolescence population views school, there seems to be two separate ideas, or rather theories, which take place among them. In McLeod’s book, he states that there are two separate groups in the school he observes and interviews in; “The Hallway Hangers” and “The Brothers.” The Hallway Hangers do not think that school is in any way important to them. They believe that the future is all based on chance and that there is not anything that school can do for them because of the fact that they come from families that are also down on their luck later in life. This reminds me of the idea of being brought into the world with an ascribed status; there is no way to go up the...

...cannot see the positive. I learned this valuable lesson myself. I realize the chaos follows when one wanders aimlessly through life. I am building my future using my flower. My flower has a stem, six petals, and a core. My flower is centered on my past, present and future. It is based on knowledge, values, people, location, working conditions, and salary. Each petal represents my goals based on my experiences. My flower grows as I grow. My flower is a road map of where I came from and where I plan to go. It is my past, present, and future. I cannot reach for the stars without recognizing my past and present. For me, my past and present are the beginnings of who I am. I am thirty years old, an African-American, female who is also a soon to be single mother. All of the labels that describe me are considered a roadblock in life. However, I see them as stepping stones toward my goals. I know the value of hard work because I saw my mother achieve it. She was a single mother who worked hard and finished college with me in a stroller. I never realized the sacrifice she made until recently. She did not let labels hold her back and neither will I. My mother is part of the stem on my flower. For without her story, I would not have a story. It is easy to take the safe path and just hope for the best without putting forth any effort. My mom did not do this and I am here because of her choices. As a teenager, I never realize this. I always felt that I was obligated...

...I found that Zimbardo’s theory on how time management can have an effect our lives at even at a young age. Quite interesting, with the examples from children making decision on whether or not to eat the marshmallow or wait, could be a precursor for how we as individuals would approach life. His evaluation of how individuals approach time of living in the past, the present and the looking to future. This theory does have so interesting merits on how individual mindset can be as they face a situation. The outcome of the situation can have deciding factor on how he/she would ultimately be a reflection of how they view their lives. The argument that Zimbardo made about individuals that lives in the past tense or reflects to their past negative experiences can present symptoms such as trauma, guilt, depression and want to express actions of retaliation and revenge toward others....

...THE FUTURE OF SHOPPING I. THEORY Tackling about how people nowadays purchase goods and services sure is as easy as one, two and three. How did this happen? Technology. That’s one definite answer for that. People communicate using cellular phones this 21st century unlike before, they are supposed to write letters to reach one another. Inventors made it all possible for us to have an easy access to every communication there is for us. With their knowledge about technology, the society is progressing like it has never happened before. Google is one of the faster way to browse the web, we get the idea that everything can really be found in the web. But what are the disadvantages of it on my part? I cannot physically see the thing that I am seeking for, it’s only available through pictures and I am not sure if it is defective or not. Jumping through the future of shopping through internet, I must say that the availability of the resources are high but I will not be sure if it’s 100% authentic or not. There are items that I usually want to purchase in the mall but when I get there, there is nowhere I could find it. And just like what the example has been cited on the article, “The Future of Shopping”, with the use of web, I can access the items that I want before going to see it on-hand and it will be less hassle since if there is no availability of the item then I will be able to see it on other cites so I will be no longer leaving the house. The thing is, the thing we call...

...more! If so much has changed over the past few years, I wonder what will happen in the future. Racial discrimination based on immigration has changed but in a negative way. Especially now with our new president, Donald Trump who is against immigration, who knows what will really happen in the future. As D’vera Cohn from the Factank News once noted, “ Among the projected 441 million Americans in 2065, 78 million will be immigrants and 81 million will be people born in the U.S. to immigrant parents”. This helps to conclude that immigration will never stop and immigrants will keep crossing the border and continuing to find a better future. As much as Trump says he will stop immigration from happening, I doubt that will ever happen because immigrants...

...for your future career. Setting goals for yourself to achieve in an internship, as well as life, will ultimately dictate who you are, what you are doing, where you are going, and finally where you’ll end. Hopefully where you end is the goal. If not, that’s fine, as long as you worked hard towards achieving the goal and learned from what you did do. The point of setting a goal is to achieve a desired result, and work as hard as you have to, to achieve it. By doing this at your internship you will grow as a person and learn things you usually will not learn in a classroom setting. In my current internship my goal is to learn more about the “Real World.” I am an accounting major and I have spent most of my time learning about accounting from a desk. In the classroom most of what we discuss is conceptual, it is not real, but often what is referenced could be. From my internship I hope to take what I have learned and apply it to a real scenario. I want the “Real World” to be a real thing, not a distant concept. By bringing the “Real World” to real life my goal is to learn new skills and business practices. I want to learn what it is like to be an account from day to day. I want to know if it is really something I want to do for the next 30 plus years. I want to see how real professionals conduct themselves at work, and learn to do the same. I want to see the accounting process in action, what’s it really like. This internship will help me learn what I want to, and...

...small town in Florida, a large trucking firm, Davis Express, was started in my hometown of Starke. This company is a mass transporter for Publix stores and a large employer in the area. Having a trucking company so close to home has shown me the critical values of the trucking industry and how critical it is to the American way of life. Since my childhood, the trucking industry has evolved into a mass employer and economic driver. Just a few years ago truck drivers were seen as the bottom of the economic totem pole. Americans often forget truck drivers and the things they do for the economy and the country. Many drivers see trucks as annoying vehicles next to them on the interstate. The trucking industry is evolving as technological innovations arise,...

...grade graduation. I sat on the stage listening to three of my peers give beautiful speeches that had nothing to do with any of the feelings I felt. The speakers harped on the nostalgia of leaving a school they had been at for nine years; I had only been there for three. They spoke on how they would miss seeing the same faces everyday and that they feared the days ahead – however, I was excited. When I thought about the future I saw all the things waiting for me to come and try. I saw the new friends I would make, the papers I would write, the softball games I would win, the clubs and activities I would join, the boy who would be my first kiss, and the wonderful people I would meet who would inspire me more than I realized at the time. Graduation is a time to look at what the future has in store for each of us. It is a time to take a look at what path our lives are going to take once the caps and gowns are taken off and we are thrust into an unknown future. Changes next year will vary greatly for each of us, they will come in the form of new environments, lifestyles, and schedules. And these changes will bring an abundance of questions. Will I be happy? Will I fall in love? Will I have a family? Will I be happy five or ten years down the road? Will I make a difference? Will I make a difference in my community? In my country? In the world? El Cerrito High School graduates of 2010, we need to begin planning for our futures tonight. We all...

...Kayla Calfee Section 01 What I have learned this semester This semester I have learned that there is so much more to walking than just simply walking. Mentally while walking around now, whether I am walking around UTC’s campus or walking around the mall, I think more about the way I am walking. I always think of the way I hold my hands and the way I pick up my legs and roll my feet. I have also learned from walking for fitness class how to walk distances in a shorter time and I also feel as if I can walk longer distances with less energy. When this class first started I felt so silly walking the way we were told to but now after I have walked that way so much I feel silly walking the way I did before. From this walking class I have learned that when I am walking I have learned that I always need to walk in a relaxed manner and try to walk tall and hold my head high. I am all the time constantly checking to make sure that my posture while walking is very good. I also have learned this semester from walking for fitness class that walking is the easiest way to start getting more active. It is also such an easy solution that can help with weight management. I find it to be really helpful considering I am always dealing with such a busy schedule. Another thing I have learned from this class is how walking helps reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. I find this knowledge so helpful because with such a busy schedule just finding the time this semester...

...Ever Since I was young I have enjoyed watching movies. I am the youngest of four kids, and that definitely affected my film watching experience as a kid; I always had to watch the movies my siblings wanted to watch, because of course the youngest, or at least me, did not have much say in those types of things. Although, at that point in my life I didn’t like being able to choose movies, now I realize it opened my eyes to a lot of different types of movies, even older films, since my oldest sibling is 10 years older than me. I have always been a huge fan of Disney and Pixar movies and still watch them today, when I’m bored or need some cheering up. I think that Toy Story is my favorite. I like the idea of channeling your inner kid and just being able to have some fun through your film watching experience. I also find myself looking in the Romantic Comedy section most often on Netflix. I like the balance of love and laughs. When I was young, my sisters introduced me to Sleepless in Seattle, and it is probably one of those movies I can watch time and time again. I like drama as well, I can honestly say that The Titanic is in my top five favorite movies, but that can also do with the fact that I love Leonardo Dicaprio. As you can see I like a very wide range of movies. I am not really to big of a sci-fi person and have never had interest in watching Star Wars, which I hear from everyone is a classic. I’m also not really into Jurassic Park and Back to the Future, which I feel like...
