...I was sitting at a church play called, Heavens Gates and Hells Flames, the play was about how different people lived their lives and when they died it showed them either going to heaven or going to hell. I remember one scene about a family of four, only the daughter was saved and she was trying to lead the other members of her family to Christ. Some freak accident happened and the family all died, the play showed the parents weeping and begging to be with their daughter, who was walking into heaven. I remember how dramatic it was and thinking about how horrible it would to be in that situation, especially knowing it would be the opposite of the scene, I would be the one weeping and begging to be with my family, since they were saved and I wasn’t. I went to the alter that night and talked with...

...boundaries of the particular analysis by defining the initiating event and the possible outcomes for each sequence of events. The event tree analysis defines possible scenarios including success, and partial and/or complete system/subsystem failure. Fault trees are often used to quantify system events that are part of event tree sequences. An event tree is a graphical representation of the logic model that identifies and quantifies the possible outcomes following an initiating event. Beginning with an initiating event; the event tree details a sequence of pivotal events that lead to specific end states (e.g. OK, Partial Failure or Failure). As each new top event is considered, a new node on the tree is added with a split of probabilities taking either branch. Fault trees graphically represent the interaction of failures and other events within a system. Basic events at the bottom of the fault trees are linked via logic symbols (know as gates) to one or more top events. These top events represent identified hazards or system failure modes for which predicted reliability or availability data is required. An “AND” gate indicates that all of the events below the gate must occur for failure of the preceding event, and an “OR” gate indicates that at least one of the top events below the gate must occur for failure of the preceding event. Other gates often used in fault trees include “Exclusive AND/OR” gates, “N of M” gates, “Transfer” gates and “Inhibit” gates. The probability of...

Complementing his consulting experience, Bob has over 12 years of experience with Fortune 100 companies including Alcoa, Chevron, and the Continental Group, mainly in corporate new venture activities and R&D centers. The speaker provided insights into stage gate process and its significance in the role of new product development. In a new product pyramid strategic excellence, portfolio excellence and development excellence are the major drivers and development excellence could be achieved by complying to stage gate process. The main objective of stage gate process is to manage pipe lines and execute pipelines. The idea would be reviewed at every gate and go or no go decisions are examined. Also , the key issues for all the functions are identified at every stage of development. By following a staged gate process, we can examine the health of the product whether the product development is too slow or whether it requires rework before it meets customer needs. By doing this, we can check whether the product is being developed without...

...Caitlin Gates STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM For years, a controversy has been brewing over the amount of junk food and soft drinks being sold through vending machines in local schools. Schools benefit from revenue-sharing arrangements, but many parents and health experts are concerned about the negative effects of these snacks and beverages. PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK The purpose of this study is to determine whether the financial concerns of school administrators and the nutritional concerns of parents and dietitians can be met. SOURCES AND METHODS OF COLLECTION DATA Data collection will start with a review of recently published articles. We can also survey students and faculty to get their opinion about the food and beverages issue. PRELIMINARY OUTLINE The preliminary outline for this study as follows: I. What experiences have other schools had with setting up portable juice bars on school campus? A. How can the school and our students benefit from this? B. What do the students think of this idea? C. Will this satisfy the parents and dietitians? II. Are the juice bars an appropriate solution for our health and financial issue? A. Are the juice bars better than other options of getting the campus healthier? B. Are the students already taking their health into their own hands? C. How will the students react to the juice bars? III. If we move ahead, how can make sure the school and students benefit? A. Could we offer the school...

...Insurance Industry Manzana has a history of seeing opportunity and seizing it. Manzana has grown through acquisition. Manzana's main competition is Golden Gate Casualty. They beat Manzana on both price and performance. Golden Gate tied with Manzana for first place in the property insurance market in 1988. By 1991, Golden Gate announced they could guarantee turnaround time (TAT) of one day. If they fail to reach that benchmark, they offer a 10% premium discount. Manzana must at least match that promise to stay competitive in this market. The current TAT for request processing has bloated to five or more days at a time. This report will recommend a number of strategies to improve the system in operational efficiencies, measurement and service. Manzana has an opportunity to increase their business through decreasing their TAT, adjusting staff incentives and delighting their customers. The acquisition of Manzana by Banque du Soleil has helped. There was a restructure that resulted in a leaner company. Underwriting standards have tightened, operating expense has reduced and this has resulted in a regain of market share. After the restructure, they are now better geared toward the property liability insurance market. Manzana now specialise in commercial insurance rather than personal insurance. That has pitted them against Golden Gate. For commercial insurance, the revenue breakdown of Manzana is: Category | Proportion of Manzana Revenue | Property Insurance | 65% | Liability Insurance...

...characteristics) in MOS capacitors. Transistors are also part of the homework. The capacitor-voltage analysis is a technique that is widely used to determine wide range parameters of MOS capacitors. These parameters involve flat-band voltage, threshold voltage, substrate doping concentration and the thickness of the gate oxides. The MOS capacitance is characterized by its capacitance, Cox. It has two capacitors that are connected in series at the depletion layer. These two capacitors are depletion layer and oxide capacitors that is, Cdep and Coxrespectively. When the MOS-capacitor is supplied by AC voltage, the gap width increase and contracts with respect to the AC frequency (Huff, 2005, pg. 219). To maintain the reliability and the quality of MOS structures is a vital practice among the MOS capacitors. The C-V measurements are employed mostly to determine the details and quality of gate oxides. On the MOS capacitor, measurements are done at the absence of the drain and source. The test operations provide the process information and at the same time ensuring efficient devices. The interface charges and bulk charges are also part of the parameters that are determined. The capacitor voltage measurements are carried out using tools like the Keithley model. The Keithley model makes use of 4200-SCS apparatus. Parameters like capacitance, voltage and current are taken. Analysis of the obtained results can be done mathematically, graphically or by use of software. When software...

...Humbert Humbert ENG 111: Writing and Inquiry 18 September 2015 “Delusions of Grandeur”: Textual Analysis Topic/Thesis According to our reader, Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s “Delusions of Grandeur” was originally published in Sports Illustrated (Fenton-Glass et al.101). In this essay, Gates aims to persuade readers to give less attention to African-American athletes and their athletic accomplishments and to give more attention to the educational and professional success of young African-Americans. Gates’ thesis states that, “the blind pursuit of attainment in sports is having a devastating effect on our people” (Gates, Jr. 101). Intended Audience: Gates message is intended for the African-American community, and society as a whole, especially all those who share the responsibility of educating and influencing young African-Americans. He says, “Those relatively few black athletes who do make it in the professional ranks must be prevailed upon to play a significant role in the education of all our young people (Gates, Jr. 102). He also adds, “A similar burden falls upon successful blacks in all walks of life” (Gates, Jr. 102). Purpose(s): Gates wants society to find a healthy balance between athletics and education, and for African-American children to know “that becoming a lawyer, a teacher or a doctor does more good for our people than winning the Super Bowl.” He also makes a compelling comparison when he says, “Until training a young black’s mind becomes as important...

...Technology & Operation Management, GSM 430 Case Analysis Content: Manzana Insurance is a property insurance company that operates through a network of branch offices. It does not deal directly with the public but with independent agents who in return deal with the customers. Agents require Low turnaround time and fast renewal rates. Initial analysis of the second quarter performance figures of Fruitvale branch at Manzana Insurance indicates declining profits, poor operating performance and advancement of competitor Golden Gates. Further analysis was conducted to get to the core of the problem the management is facing and consequently, provide recommendations on how to go about these issues. Issues: * Low and declining Profits: During the first quarter of 1991, there was profit loss of ($ 174,000) which declined even further in the second quarter to ($121,000) (Exhibit 1). Reasons may include: * Due to high turnaround times (TAT) * Calculate by management to be 8.2 days * Causes agents to refer clients to other companies * Causes congestion and increased accumulation of policies * Due to reduced number of renewals (low renewal rates) because of increased volumes of late renewals * Due to focus on new policies only * Due to late policies * Late RERUNs amount to 99.67% of total late requests processed in 1991 which means it has a big impact on total...

...At art prize I looked at many different sculptures, but none of them spoke to me the way Rodrigo Lara Zendejas “Crowd Gate” did. The first thing I saw when noticing this piece was four faceless children swinging from the ceiling by their feet. My first reaction was to be appalled; this is really what grabbed my attention though. Upon more analysis I realized that the children swinging from the ceiling was perhaps the most enlightening part of the sculpture, as the rest of the project they hung over was even more dark. Underneath the children was an open door way or gate. This made me ask the question, “what is this sculpture trying to represent or symbolize.” After examination I started to see what Hell’s gate could be. The Gate was all black and depicted pretty sinister mini sculptures. Figures in what most people would consider uncomfortable or odd positions. The features of each of the figures is ill-defined giving it an even more creepy feel. On the top of the gate is a replication of the famous sculpture “The Thinker”. This was a bit perplexing to me, as you wouldn’t expect this to be a hell bounding act....
