...Socialization is the lifelong social experiences where people develop their human potential of attitudes, values, and behaviors that are appropriate and expected by their culture and community. We start shaping this from the first day we are born. Those who ‘welcome’ us into the world, cuddle us, and feed us, in those first few minutes of life, will help develop the individual we become. We continue to grow through life and life’s experiences daily. Every day we interact with people in our lives. It could be babysitters, doctors, neighbors, teachers, professors, coaches, and our own family, to name a few. As we move through life we thus develop our own personal image of ourselves. This is not only created from our own thoughts, about ourselves, but also the influence and the perceptions that others have of us. This concept is called the ‘looking-glass self’. According to Dictionary.reference.com, the definition of this is, ‘the self-image an individual forms by imagining what others think of his or her behavior and appearance.’ The key word here is, ‘imagine.’ We are not influenced by the actual voiced opinion of others but we are influenced by what we believe or think we imagine other people’s opinions to be. Our perceptions of how others see us can be correct, or incorrect, thus feeding our imagination possible inaccurate thoughts and beliefs. Charles Horton Cooley (August 17, 1864 – May 7, 1929), an American sociologist and the eighth president of the American...

...Kendal Foster Professor Robb Poli Sci 1 10/29/15 Bill Paper How many people today have witnessed police brutality either in person or on TV? In a Washington Post article by Kimberley Kindy, she stated “at least 385 people were shot and killed by police nation during the first five months of this year, more that two a day, according to a Washington Post analysis. That is more than twice as much of fatal police shootings tallied by the federal government over the past decade, a count that officials concede is incomplete”. Police brutality in the United States is a huge problem today. Each month you hear about more stories about the police using excessive force on a person. There have been endless cases of innocent, harmless, and unarmed people losing their lives or being assaulted because cops end up using excessive and sometimes deadly force to “protect” themselves from an absent danger. However the public had to do something about this. In many of these cases of police brutality someone has recorded it. Is recording a police interaction illegal? In an article by Steve Silverman, he states “you can record police interactions in 38 states legally, But in the other 12 states require the consent of all parties for you to record a conversation”. One of those states is the great state of California. Massachusetts and Illinois are the only two states that are cracking down on video recording. On December 9th, 2014 Illinois made it a felony for its citizens...

...COMMUNICATIONS IN BUSINESS 100 Name: Anonymous 2 Student Number: 12345678 Email: anonym2@mail.au Company: Chevron Corporation Title: Corporate Social Responsibility: An Analysis of Chevron Other Details: Semester 1 2014, Bentley Campus (Word Count: 1568) Introduction Multinational Energy Companies, like Chevron Corporation, have a broad and significant social, economic and environmental impact on the globe and as such are in a position to influence the lives of many people. Chevron is involved in many different facets of the energy business, including exploration, refining, production and transportation. The company employs approximately 60 000 people in the oil and natural gas industry, with interest in 180 countries (Chevron Corporation SWAT, 2009). With the rise in global communication associated with the information age, companies like Chevron have to establish symbiotic relationships, focused on sustainable development, with society in order to satisfy increasingly environmentally conscious stakeholders. In this context a symbiotic relationship refers to one that is cooperative and mutually beneficial (Langella et al. 2012, 51). At the foundation of such a relationship is respect for health...

...MODEL ESSAY ANSWER “Assess the view that New Religious Movements are mainly for the middle classes and the young.” [33 marks] Introduction New Religious Movements are often viewed as non-traditional organisations, such as sects and cults. Sociologists believe that there are differences within such groups and thus, they could help to explain why certain social groups might find them appealing. Traditional organisations are often referred to as churches and denominations. They also might appeal to certain groups more than others. Arguably, the middle classes find NRMS more appealing because according to Wallis the affluent middle class are more likely to suffer from relative deprivation. Despite their wealth and having all the material comforts of life, they feel a spiritual void. So, a cult – which, according to Stark & Bainbridge offer compensation by offering people the things they lack; might appeal to those who materially have everything but spiritually lack fulfilment. Also, most cults allow members to lead conventional lifestyles – a factor appealing to the middle classes who might need to retain this sort of life in order to keep on making money. However, Troelstch believes that the M/C actually find the more conventional church more appealing. This is because the church is very well-established in society and perceived as hierarchical and formal. Belonging to a church therefore serves to reinforce their status in society or their local community. E.G Several...

...from wich language the most popular word came. Of course you know this word, it`s "okay". When somebody asks you about your feelings you may say "i`m OK!", when somebody agree with something you may say "He`s okeys" and there`re a lot of examples more. How many times per day do we use word "okay"? 5? 10? Or even more? But do we know anything of it except of the meaning (or only one of them)? I made this project to show you how it`s deep, how many faces it has and just to teach you how to use it in a correct way. Also i want to tell you about it`s history or rather histories, because linguists now days don`t know which of them is true. All it started when my teacher had offered me and some of my schoolmates to take participation in contest about English language and after that i found some interesting information about word "okay". It was really informative to me to read some stories about it's formation so I`ve decided to search the Web to learn more: I read some articles about it`s formation, using, grammar and so on. When it became in the big deal, in full project, I asked my schoolmates and friends both russian and foreign. The deal is that not only studying people don`t know about all ways that we can use it but sone of native speakers too. Using Melvyn Bragg`s book...

Management game Part Two: Q1.Explain the importance of Career planning in industry. Ans: The importance of Career Planning in industry are the following; 1. Proper career planning can give employees perspective and meaning to their profession. A career plan acts like a career guide for the future and having a set plan will help follow the process without feeling lost in the middle of a profession. 2. A proper career plan with well laid out deadlines help people focus on achieving their objectives. This is because it gives a clearer picture to the person in concern and therefore, the person can focus on making the objectives come to life because their minds are not as clouded as those without career plans. 3. Someone with a plan will always be on the move in an attempt to get the objectives set out while others might get tempted to move off track and lose sight of their main career goals. 4. Someone with a plan and someone who aims to achieve will be greatly influenced to win if they have a well structured career plan in place. As most of these conditions are symptoms of old age or mental illness, these people will always be at risk of pressure ulcers, meaning the pressure ulcer prevention is there best chance of living comfortably. Pressure Ulcers can be treated but they are painful and if untreated they can result in death. They are also expensive to treat and lawsuits are common. Thus prevention is the priority for care providers for health and financial reasons. With this in mind I worked with Cayuga Medical Center as part of my student consulting class taught by Dr. Laurie Miller. I worked alone on this project as no one else signed up to work with the CMC. ...Energy Policy 31 (2003) 721–734 Electricity and externalities in South Africa Randall Spalding-Fechera,*, David Khorommbi Matibeb b a Energy and Development Research Centre, University of Cape Town, Private Bag, Rondebosch 7700, South Africa Gauteng Department of Agricultural Conservation and Environment, PO Box 8769, Johannesburg 2000, South Africa Abstract As the electricity supply sector in developing countries undergoes increasingly rapid restructuring, and technology and fuel choices widen, understanding the environmental implications of investment choices becomes ever more important. The objective of this paper is to expand previous analysis of the external costs of electric power generation in South Africa. We present a quantitative analysis of air pollution impacts on human health, damages from greenhouse gas emissions, and the avoided health costs from electrification, as well as discussing other impacts qualitatively. The central estimate of total external costs is R7.3 billion, or 4.4 cents per unit of coal-fired power generated. Relative to current electricity prices, the external costs are approximately 40 and 20 per cent of industrial and residential tariffs, respectively. We then discuss policy options for addressing these costs, including taxation, tradable permit systems, and integrated resource planning, as well as expanded regional energy trade and the possibility of accessing climate change-related funding for cleaner electricity production. r 2002 Elsevier...
