...as greed and the love of power. With some, the more they have, the more they desire. Large industries, such as the oil corporations, banking industries, Koch Industries, and the ultra wealthy are increasingly using their money and influence to purchase the votes of our politicians and to launch their attacks on the middle class and low income Americans. They are using this money and power to buy our legal and political systems. They are systematically attempting to do away with unions, public aid, Obamacare, public education, minimum wage, social security, medicare, while denying the existence of global warming. For instance, the Koch Brothers, of Koch Industries, are the founders of several political organizations such as, “Americans for Prosperity”, also known as the “Tea Party”. “In the last few years, increasingly byzantine campaign finance laws have made it easier for companies to hide their political contributions -- and made it harder for consumers to know which causes their purchases support... Freedom Partners, another Koch political (organization) which distributed $236 million in 2012 -- making it the largest single conservative donor -- is designed as a clearinghouse that the Koch brothers can use to raise money and distribute it to a variety of political causes.” http://www.dailyfinance.com/on/koch-brothers-secret-bank-freedom-partners/ . Being a sharp businessman, Koch became wealthy by importing lines from Germany. With his money, he was able to purchase an estate in which seemed to be in a prominent part of Philadelphia. Not only was he a smart business man, he was also a patriot. When the war of 1812 broke out, he donated $5000 (about $89, 285.00 in today’s money) to help build a frigate that would help the American government win the war. The marriage to Jane Griffith Koch was pretty much...

...spending system with ‘dark money’ in order to buy election results” (Cox 2014). Which inherently the democrats are correct about their claim. There are billionaires, such as the conservative business moguls the Koch Brothers, that are reportedly known to spend numerous amounts of money to sway election. They will use advertisements, think tanks, position papers, and their own non-profit Americans for Prosperity. According to opensecret.com, “At least 1 in 4 dark money dollars in 2012 had Koch links.” Additionally, the Koch Brothers declared that they were prepared to spend “$889 million on the 2016 presidential election” (Boatright 2016). Spending money in that quantity suggest that Kochs have an immense amount of influence on results of the elections. They make certain to gain a value when investing in candidates or into policies, they ensure that they exclusively donate to people and ideas that share similar principles. Furthermore, they have been known to attack candidates that take opposing views. The sole purpose of this is so Kochs can profit and so their agenda can eventually be promoted throughout the states. This is unfair advantage that the Kochs have over the rest of population. While individuals that do not have the capability to own a non-profit like the Kochs that can funnel dark money through to their candidates, they are forced to donate the maximum of $2700 dollars. This unequal advantage puts an extreme limit on the voter that donates their money, fighting against...

...Billionaire Koch brothers could profit up to one-hundred billion dollars from the expansion of the Keystone XL pipeline. Think Tank International Forum on Globalization (IFG) conducted a study and estimates the Koch brothers have invested roughly fifty-million dollars to members in Congress to advocate for the pipeline. Jared Gilmour of the Huffington Post reminds us that the Koch brothers are well known for their monetary investments in the Tea-Party movement among other conservative ideals. Charles and David Koch have been road-blocking environmental issues for the past several years as stated from the Investigative Reporting Workshop (The Koch Club). Through Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group they support, have been persuading many members of Congress to sign a little-known pledge in which they have promised to vote against legislation relating to climate change unless it is followed by tax cuts. Though most solutions require compromise from polluters and the public this pledge commits those who sign it to vote against legislation that adheres...

Led by Koch Industries, a multinational corporation operating refining, chemicals and energy business, many major electric utilities have been spending heavily to fight incentives for renewable energy, specifically...

...A new economic analysis published in the highly prestigious American Economic Review has made a damming assessment of the costs of pollution from fossil fuel industries, and concludes that coal is doing more harm to the US economy than good – and that doesn't take into account its climate impact. The paper by respected economists Nicholas Muller, Robert Mendelsohn (Yale) and William Nordhaus (Yale), models the physical and economic consequences of emissions of six major pollutants (sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, ammonia, fine particulate matter, and coarse particulate matter) from the country's 10,000 pollution sources. It is an update of a previous study concluded in 2009. It concludes that the "gross external damages" (GED) from the sickness and death caused by the pollution, is larger than their value add in several key industries – coal- and oil-fired electricity plants, solid waste combustion, sewage treatment, stone quarrying, and marinas! The most damning assessment is of coal, which is fingered for about $53 billion in damages a year. This estimate does not include climate change and uses a conservative estimate of health risks. The authors say that coal's damages bill ranges from 0.8 to 5.6 times value added. Instead of being cheap and affordable, the study finds coal is likely the costliest source of electricity. Which is not to suggest that it immediately be shut down, they say, but that it should be understood that for every one-unit...

...Senator Ted Cruz (R-Tx) slammed the Democrats and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Tuesday for allegedly using a smear campaign against the Koch brothers. In his speech on Tuesday,Cruz called Reid’s continued attack on billionaires Charles and David Koch an “unprecedented slander campaign.” This accusation came on the heels of a proposal to amend the constitution to allow lawmakers to have more control over campaign budget, The Washington Post explained. Adam Jentleson, Reid’s spokesperson, responded to Cruz’s statement by saying the latter is defending “shadowy billionaires” who are destroying the country’s democracy to appease the powerful and wealthy people. He called out Cruz for threatening a government shutdown and deporting American...

...Heckler & Koch GmbH Table of Contents Introduction 3 Early History 4 Firearms History 4 U.S. Bound 6 Other Countries 8 Negative Image 9 SWOT Analysis 12 Conclusion 13 References 14 Introduction There are over 30 different major firearm manufacturers in the world today. This doesn’t even included small, privately owned companies within the United States and other countries. As children, we have played many different games that include some type of “firearm” whether it is our hand or a plastic toy. So it may come to some more naturally to be drawn towards firearms. Many families around the world own firearms. Even the United States Bill of Rights has a section, that “… the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (U.S. Const. amend. II). Early History Interestingly enough, Heckler & Koch came about due to another firearms company, Mauser-Werke Oberndorf Waffensysteme GmbH, otherwise commonly known as Mauser. Mauser was a German arms manufacturer located in Oberndorf, Germany that was started in 1811. They manufactured weapons that would soon be used by the German Army during several wars. It wasn’t until World War II that Mauser would be out of commission as the territory the plant was located in became under control by the French military. The French dismantled the entire factory and destroyed all records. However, former Mauser engineers...

...At this point in American history, political corruption is more present than most Americans believe. Because corporations and billionaires are at such an advantage to bribe politicians into tailoring laws so that they can profit from them, the American people remain in the dark as to who the government truly serves. Organizations like Citizens United allow big oil companies to donate unlimited amounts of money into campaigns of their choosing, the Koch brothers donate as much as they want toward anti-climate change groups and pharmaceutical companies increase prices for life-saving drugs. But, with Bernie Sanders’s propositions for getting big money out of politics, combatting climate change and taking on corruption within pharmaceutical companies,...

...Einstein, Albert (14 Mar. 1879-18 Apr. 1955), theoretical physicist, was born in Ulm, Germany, to Hermann Einstein and Pauline Koch, who had married in 1876. In 1880 the family moved to Munich. There Hermann ran various industrial concerns, eventually managing an electrical business in which his younger brother Jakob provided the technical direction. The two Einstein families lived together in a large house in a Munich suburb. Albert Einstein and his younger sister Maria (Maja) grew up surrounded by Jakob's electrical innovations. Jakob also provided young Albert with science textbooks, notably a seminal exposition of Euclidean geometry. Einstein went to a local primary school and then attended the Luitpold Gymnasium, a progressive secondary school. He succeeded admirably in all his subjects. Following elementary school practice, he received lessons in Judaism, the registered religion of his free-thinking parents. His mother had him study violin privately, and the instrument provided him solace throughout his life. The Einstein electrotechnical business foundered in the highly competitive environment of the middle 1890s. In 1894 Hermann and Jakob Einstein lost a bid to illuminate the streets of Munich. Hermann reestablished himself first in Milan and then in Pavia. Pauline and Maja accompanied him. Albert stayed behind to complete secondary school. After a number of months Albert abandoned school and joined his parents in Milan. He planned to study on his own in preparation...

...Dark Money and its Influence on US Politics Dark Money and its Influence on US Politics Abstract The influence of voters is overcast by lobbyists who funnel channels of dividends toward the candidate or party of their choosing. With our self-galvanized democracy, this is becoming all too common as our voices in collusion begin to fade. To placate reign, we acknowledge fault as the American public pleads with the top justices to limit lobbyist inequity through entitled equity only to be dismayed by the brittleness of our justice system as it concedes to an ambiguous constitutional amendment that endures free speech equates to filled pockets. Dark money’s malignant strike is designed to silence the many who toil for the sake of the few who take. Conservatives protest anonymity for protection from public outrage which could lead to dwindling sales and lost revenues from faithful lobbyists and big businesses. The American public demands disclosure to ensure greater confidence and voter turnout and prosperous turn in gracious candidacy. In a political climate built on attack ads, clarity is essential for due process not matter how high the stakes are for candidate. Association will either lead to adequate support or an inevitable defeat. Introduction A 5-4 vote was need for the Supreme Court to dislodge the necessary caps to plug lucrative high-profile tycoons and corporate conglomerate...

...Great Depression in the 1930’s changing the perception that market failures and other economic factors affect the way businesses operate. The global financial crisis (GFC) of 2007-2009 resulted due to risky lending and increased loan defaults especially in the housing sector. A significant number of questions rose about the stability and policies that regulated the market. Among the many attributes of the market, major factors that contributed to the downfall relates to macroeconomic trends, market failures and regulatory failures. While several years have passed since the occurrence of the crisis, the United States of America is still recovering from events that saw the collapse of Bear Stearns, a mortgage under-writer in US 2007, Lehman Brothers (2008) and the near collapse of AIG Insurance. It is believed that the GFC of 2007 was the worst financial crisis of recent times. The US market plunged right into the recessionary periods and large multi-national companies struggled to keep up with the market conditions. Also known as, the burst of the financial bubble, governments realized the lack of regulations to control the market. These regulations related to accounting policies, auditing policies and more stringent rules as responses to major corporate collapses and upheavals in the financial sector. The introduction of Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) of 2002 and Corporate Law Economic Reform Program (CLERP) 9 resulted from the shortfalls of the existing regulations prior to 2001. The...

...In this past weekend’s Points section, the DMN ran an essay suggesting that catastrophic climate change — which the piece called global warming — doesn’t cause more big, scary tornados. It made me crazy for several reasons. One, it didn’t tell you who Richard Muller is: a physicist (not a climate scientist) who is most famous for finally converting to the inevitable conclusion that manmade climate change is real after he’d spent years denying this (and taking Koch brother money while doing so). So, he’s famous for admitting what everyone knew two decades ago. Also, the argument is a straw man: No one is saying that “global warming” (really, catastrophic climate change) is causing more big scary tornados, because the people who study this sort of thing closely know the data doesn’t support making any conclusion. For example, tornados form for reasons besides temperature, and there is no constancy in reporting through the decades (new technology is showing tornados winds could be 100 mph faster than previously measured, for example). Which is why six climate/tornado experts wrote an essay this week showing why the Muller piece is so off-base. Finally: the column had already run in the New York Times and then been debunked by the very source Muller quotes: Michael Mann! I leave you with what should have been the final word on this subject, from Mann’s piece: The New York Times does a disservice to its readers when it buys into the contrived narrative of the “honest broker”–Muller...

This movement is supporting both free markets and entrepreneurship by supporting lower taxes and limited government spending. Americans for Prosperity’s spending target is at least $125 million. The president of the interest group is a Republican campaign strategist, Tim Phillips. The founders of Americans for Prosperity are billionaire brothers, David and Charles Koch.
