...There are many forms of diversity. Prior to this class, I mentally defined diversity as solely the color of one's skin and their culture. This course has enlightened me on the fact that diversity applies to so much more than the color of your skin. Diversity is social class, your age, your gender, your sexuality, your mental and physical health, your relationship status, your religion, etc. This class has taught me numerous things about diversity, the world I live in, and myself. It has explained to me how society has created difference in human diversity. In class we learned about different groups of people in the US, and each group's history, economic and social settings, including social justice and how much “power” they're given. Each group...

...Diversity Considerations Written by: Angel R Kolstedt July 23rd, 2014 Abstract Influence from ones culture, on attitudes, values, perception, human behavior, and spiritual interpersonal relations is the basis behind why there is diversity in society. Through ones upbringing or societies views or even ones culture are all factors that are promoting cultural diversity. Through research and education though public safety can enhance their evaluation of information to better help those in society who may need their assistance and stop the stereotyping or even bring down some of the diversity in society. Diversity Considerations Cultures often can have a drastic influence upon attitudes, values, perception, human behavior and interpersonal relations. Such as with a person’s attitude this can be something that they are programmed with from early childhood that they have to have nothing but the most recent name brand and highest dollar clothing to be accepted in society or be someone. If they don’t they are apt to downed and judged for not fitting in. Another form of this is the clicks in schools such as the preps, the geeks, the hoods, or just the jocks. This is where the person’s values, perceptions, human behavior and interpersonal relations come to truly be seen. Through their culture one is showing that due to someone’s income, they can not afford the nicer things and then assume that, that person is not worthy of a chance to get to know them or they cant be...

...Minorities in Librarianship Diversity is an important challenge for the field of librarianship as the profession does not reflect or represent the United States population and the communities served. Many barriers exist with improvement needed in the areas of recruitment and retention, cultural programs, LIS curriculum, and more career advancement opportunities for ethic minority groups. In its 2007 report Diversity Counts, the American Library Association (ALA) stated 86.5% of its membership as Caucasian and that “credentialed and non-credentialed librarians…are predominately….white”. The recent statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau clearly indicate the demographic changes in the nation will continue to impact librarianship. In order for the profession to remain relevant to the communities they serve, more work is needed to bring minorities into the workforce. The references listed are beneficial for those interested to learn more about the challenges facing minorities and some proactive steps to help increase diversity in the profession. ...Phoenix September 1, 2013 Diversity is a challenging topic for me to argue, because there is so much to it. It can be both beneficial and challenging; it varies in characteristics, understanding, effectiveness to others, and acceptability from place to place as well as being an extremely debatable subject due to the variety of challenges and benefits involved. Most of the information about diversity in the United States that has helped me to better understand or relate to others in ways that I did not in the past was all mostly learned through this class’s material, however a great deal of personal experiences has been a huge contributor. Some of what I have learned is how to be more sensitive and less offensive toward others. Diversity can come in many forms: variations of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, customs, style, and age; almost anything that sets people apart and creates difference amongst a population or area. Whether people recognize it or not, diversity is everywhere. Nobody is exactly alike; everyone is different in some way or another. So many people are against the idea of diversity because they believe that one specific “group” is dominant over others, but what they don’t consider is how even the people within their own group are all different, too, in other ways. That is what I have learned about diversity: it comes in many forms and tends to be very controversial. I have also learned of the challenges derived from diversity and prejudices that can...

...1. What are some of the issues the host foreign country could face as a result of the expansion? 2. Explain what cultural barriers and diversity issues are commonly encountered by international/multinational (MNC) and global organizations. 3. Why has diversity become such an important topic in the international arena? 4. What can occur when issues related to multiculturalism and diversity are ignored in an international company? 5. Describe at least 2 political and 2 economic issues that may arise during global expansion and proposed methods of addressing them. 6. Explain the importance of and the implications of each of these items in PPQ Parts expansion plans to Germany and Japan. When trying to prepare for a global expansion, you have to look at many different factors such as cost, training, benefits, and many other factors. But you also have to look at the risk that a company can face when expanding. For example, the risk that a foreign country, that is hosting the business that is expanding, they could possibly lose lots of money, could go into a financial crisis and could also lose the business and relationships with many other companies if it does not go as planned. Another issue that could ensue is that the country could gain absolutely nothing if it is not planned out correctly. This could lead to a poor report with the company and many companies to follow. If these risks do not happen, many other barriers can be a factor in the downfall of a company’s...

...ETH 125 Final Project ETH 125 ETH 125 Final Project There are a lot of issues we face as a nation. There are so many, that often times you wonder if any of them will actually see a resolution. Americans everyday face very real issues of poverty, employment, security, and education. None of these issues are to be taken too lightly. One of the most important issues off all, though, is diversity. The equal treatment of all citizens either born in, or immigrated to, America. A lot of strides have been made over the course of America’s history. Diversity, and equal treatment of Americans, has to be one of the top priorities for everyone. Over the course of time, I have had a lot of interaction with different cultures. We have lived in Japan, America, and Europe. All of which provide very different cultures to learn and experience. One thing I have learned is to always keep an open mind. When you approach another culture with a closed mind that is when stereotypes take shape. I also learned to evaluate the history of your own people and their struggles. A lot of times, even though we may look different, we have all had very similar struggles throughout the course of history. Women have had the same struggles as African Americans when it comes to basic civil liberties. The same applies to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender people. As you look at the different racial and gender groups, you do see a lot of similarities. You also learn some new things about their histories...

...When thinking of a big city the first thing that runs through the mind of many is prodigious buildings whose highest point meets the clouds. They think of bright lights and vast opportunity, and many unrecognizable faces roaming the streets. In turn, a small town may be regarded with thoughts of close knit community where you receive your diploma next to the person who you learned to walk with, small mom and pop business’s and friendly familiar faces roaming the streets. Big cities and small towns can be regarded to day and night, as their differences are vast and plentiful. Prominently, there is a major difference between many aspects of small town DeWitt in rural Iowa and metro city Miami in inner city Florida. Particularly differing in identities...

...Diversity means a range of different things, the quality or state of having many different forms, types, ideas, etc. They use diversity when speaking of races because there are so many races and they are all different. Diversity has helped me to understand more about other races in the world. As I have been learning these past nine weeks I have learned so much that I have truly changed as a person to try not to be prejudice towards others. In the past honestly I was very prejudice towards others just by their looks. There are many ways that diversity means for things in the world. So many things are different in the world, but that doesn’t mean we need to be prejudice about things or people. The things I have learned about my own racial, ethnic, and cultural history is that race doesn’t matter. I know that whites use to be the most popular race in the world but that has changed a lot in the last century. Whites are now the third most popular race in the world. For ethnic there are many different groups in my race. Groups like Christians in my race many people are Christians so they are considered an ethnic group. Things I have learned about ethnics are that there are so many different types of groups in the world. They don’t need to be judged or criticized. There are many ethnics about Americans. Cultural history in my race is things that have shaped the world today. Americans have come a very long way in life. They have shaped this world to what it is today. It is a strong nation...

...Managing across cultures is no easy task for any organization regardless of its economies of scale or long standing reputation in the market; the challenges are many, including coping with the flux of change, managing diverse groups of employees, communicating, and negotiating agreements with host countries. This paper illustrates how Johnson and Johnson, Allstate, Starbucks, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Shell, Whataburger, and Sony USA address their cultural diversity. Thus, the authors of this paper analyze, evaluate, and assess the various successful best practices of these organizations to help Riordan Manufacturing’s situation. Riordan Manufacturing’s decision to open a new production facility in China has created some challenges involving the scarcity of Chinese skilled employees. Whereas leadership attempts alternative solutions to synergize the company’s strategies to address the situation, Riordan recognizes that the integration of a diverse workforce has the potential to alter the company’s performance (University of Phoenix, 2009). Accordingly, in analyzing cultural synergy strategies to help mitigate undesirable outcomes takes extra consideration, yet it is a necessary task (Hodgetts, Luthans, Doh, 2005). When reviewing Johnson and Johnson, it is evident that the company struggled with managing diversity and cultural differences. However, Johnson and Johnson stepped up and developed a Credo to assist their management team with managing cultural differences as...
