...This paper will look at the similarities and differences in the Presidencies of Barack Obama and Franklin Roosevelt. Roosevelt became President during a trying time for America. The Great Depression was in full swing caused by the fact that Wall Street and the banks had collapsed causing millions of people or about 25 percent of the population. to be without jobs or financial security (Hiltzik). When Roosevelt came into office he put together an economic package known as the New Deal in order to help alleviate the crisis and get men back to work. Almost seventy years later in 2008 the country was in a recession due to another Wall Street and the banks once again collapsed due in part because of large corporations like GM defaulting on loans....

...From going to the “little black boy with the weird name”, to the very first black president of the United States, Barack Obama is making history. “The New New Deal” which is a book written by Michael Grunwald goes into great detail of Obama before presidency and during presidency. I believe that this book is somewhat uninteresting, but very informative and it would be great for someone interested in Obama’s acts as the president. The book was published in 2012 in New York, NY by Simon & Schuster, Inc. Michael Grunwald, the author, presents many facts throughout the book and he also expresses his opinions on certain things. “The New New Deal” shows how Obama’s acts and plans as president were a success. The author in the beginning of the book...

...been so important, it has also never been so expensive. Our nation hasn’t been in this sort of financial affliction since the Great Depression of 1929. In 1933, as an effort to “stop the drop” President Franklin D. Roosevelt offers an American solution to an American problem, the New Deal. Thus, to some extent, laying the foundation for President Barack Obama’s 2009 Economic Stimulus Plan, a plan designed to quickly jumpstart economic growth and save millions of jobs. Barack Obama once said, “I’m pledging to cut the deficit by half by the end of my first term in office.” As of then, 2009, the national debt was at $10 trillion, now in 2012 the outstanding national deficit has reached an outrageous $16 trillion. In 2009 President Obama signed the $789 trillion American Recover and Reinvestment Act that helped push our national debt 23 percent higher, to $13.2 trillion, a new record at that time. Many citizens will argue that Barack Obama’s Stimulus Plan did do better than they had anticipated, however it added an excessive amount to our national debt. Nevertheless, the US shouldn’t attack President Obama before one realizes how much was spent on funding for Franklin D. Roosevelt’s successful New Deals. At the start of FDR’s presidency in 1933 the US National Debt was $22.5 billion and at the end of it, 12 years later, the debt was at $258.5 billion. FDR even caused a so-called Roosevelt Recession after producing an austerity budget which reduced government spending; therefore...

...democrat Barack Obama was recently elected as the new President of the United States, with a fairly convincing victory over the republican John McCain. The American people where obviously ready for change, but would there have been any major difference if the outcome of the election was turned in McCain’s favor? There would naturally have been some differences between an Obama presidency and a McCain presidency, but both naturally want what’s best for their country. So if the differences between an Obama presidency and a McCain presidency would result in an outcome that the U.S. population in general would be better off or benefit from, are not very likely. Obama spoke about change, he got elected, so now it will be interesting to see if he practice what he preach. People have always been promised a lot from politicians, and people often end up being disappointed because a politician doesn’t deliver what is promised. Maybe the most important change Barack Obama can make is changing this impression, and he should do that by making the financial crisis, the increasing unemployment, and the extraction of U.S. soldiers from Iraq, the first three priorities he will deal with as the President of the United States. Barack Obama isn’t going to be a Messiah for the American people, he will hopefully do a decent job, but there are limits for how much that can be done, and the American people are going to become aware of this when the placebo effect of having elected the popular Obama starts to...

...2. Iran Falls for (and Plagiarizes) The Onion Iran’s partially state-run Fars News Agency not only believed an Onion piece claiming that rural Americans preferred President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over President Barack Obama. Fars actually plagiarized it — putting the story up on its website and claiming it as its own. After many thousands of people pointed and laughed, Fars removed the story and issued an apology— though they did point out they stood by the spirit of the parody: “Although it does not justify our mistake, we do believe that if a free opinion poll is conducted in the US, a majority of Americans would prefer anyone outside the US political system to President Barack Obama and American statesmen,” the agency stated. Including, presumably, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Onion, says CNN, actually played along with the gaffe and proudly claimed that Fars “has been our Middle Eastern bureau since the mid 1980s, when the Onion’s publisher, T. Herman Zweibel, founded Fars with the government approval of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.” Obama claims tying Iran deal to recognition of Israel would be ‘fundamental misjudgment’ Published April 06, 2015 President Obama on Monday rejected a call by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the pending Iran nuclear deal to recognize his nation’s “right to exist,” with the U.S. president claiming it would be a “fundamental misjudgment” to link the two issues. The president made the comments, likely...

...Obama’s Deal Author: PBS Frontline This video was about Obama’s goal to pass new healthcare legislation and how he succeeded. Obama set out to get this accomplished at the very beginning of his term. This was a task that he and his team realized would make or break his first term. If Obamacare didn’t work out he might not have been voted in for a second term. The biggest impact to his healthcare mission was the team he built up. President Obama had congressional leaders and previous members working closely with his to make his goals a reality. One of the biggest proponents of Obama’s healthcare reform was his Chief of staff Rom Emanuel. Rom Emanuel knew a lot about healthcare from working with President Clinton who also tried to pass a bill on healthcare reform. Unlike Obama’s bill, Clinton’s was destroyed by all the negative ads on TV about the plan saying “If the government will choose, we lose.” Although Obama and his team hit a few bumps in the road the bill was still able to pass through both houses of Congress. President Obama was mainly able to get the bill to pass through Congress because of his deals that he made with Senators. Karen Ignani, the head of the insurance agencies, got into a battle with Obama over the public option. The attack ads began to fly. This caused important leaders in the Senate to side with the insurance companies. It would cost President Obama and his staff a lot of deals to get the votes. Including over one hundred million tax payer dollars...

...When will we see Change? A Critical look at Barack Obama and the democratic party. Charles Kerber POLS 202 9AM American Government Livingston This paper will take a critical look at the history of the democratic party, its most recent 2012 election, its current presidential candidate Barack Obama, and the latest platform. While the paper may read as being highly critical of President Obama, it should be caveated by the fact that this is an extremely trying time in the history of the United States, and the government is under considerable pressures from outside terrorism threats and international relations, to severe recession and domestic economic concerns. Nevertheless, one must look critically at President Obama, and answer has he really given us “change we can believe in”? Biography & history The Democratic party went through a number of iterations before it became the current democratic party. The party began as the anti federalists under the leadership of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Thomas Jefferson a former secretary of state under George Washington's administration who had resigned to protest the fiscal policies of Alexander Hamilton. These two rivals would become the basis of the first two political parties of the United States. Alexander Hamilton favored the constitution, the creation of a national bank and repayment of the revolutionary war debt with federal funds. Under this philosophy they would name themselves Federalists, for their leaders support of ratifying the constitution...

...of the chemical weapons to Russia and eventually have Russia destroy them so that the war between the US and Syria will not commence. President Obama is still trying to convince Congress to have an airstrike on Syria but more than half of Congress is oppose to this war because we the people of the United States just finished two wars one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan. CNN has posted, ” A new diplomatic solution in the standoff between the Syria and the United States surfaced unexpectedly Monday as the war-torn country said it supported a proposal to hand over control of its chemical weapons(Shoichet & Crawford, 2013).” “President Obama told ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer that the Syrian reaction was a "modestly positive development" and a military strike would "absolutely" be on pause if Syria's chemical weapons were put in the hands of an international body (Padia, Schifrin, & Hughes, 2013).” For, the most part of this case I think that this case is a good form of argument of authority. Because based on the facts that President Obama is trying to force Syria to do something that he has no proof of or any knowledge of. The article is also part of Argument from Ignorance or Non-Testable Hypothesis based on President Assad probably had no acknowledgment of the Chemical attack. It is also Dogmatism because President Obama is not even giving the President Assad of Syria the chance to speak his views and wants attack without reason. There are so many reasons for us...

...This was an important achievement for Obama because before he was elected, the country was suffering from an economic decline because of the Bush administration. Obama effectively “saved” the United States by lowering the rate by a tremendous 5.3%. By cutting this rate in half meant that more Americans were earning money, which leads to a better economy and less homeless people on the street. Another good act that Obama did during his presidency...

...The New York Times March 1, 2013 Deep Philosophical Divide Underlies the Impasse By JOHN HARWOOD WASHINGTON — Let’s play truth or consequences with the budget sequestration that took effect on Friday. That can be difficult through the fog of political war that has hung over this town. But a step back illuminates roots deeper than the prevailing notion that Washington politicians are simply fools acting for electoral advantage or partisan spite. Republicans don’t seek to grind government to a halt. But they do aim to shrink its size by an amount currently beyond their institutional power in Washington, or popular support in the country, to achieve. Democrats don’t seek to cripple the nation with debt. But they do aim to preserve existing government programs without the ability, so far, to set levels of taxation commensurate with their cost. At bottom, it is the oldest philosophic battle of the American party system — pitting Democrats’ desire to use government to cushion market outcomes and equalize opportunity against Republicans’ desire to limit government and maximize individual liberty. And they are fighting it within a 21st-century political infrastructure that impedes compromise. Those government initiatives include Social Security from F.D.R.’s New Deal, Medicare and Medicaid from L.B.J.’s Great Society, and the 2010 national health care law. President Obama wants to keep them in roughly their current forms — even as the wave of baby boom retirements makes...
