During the Era of Good Feelings, the United States was swept up in a newfound nationalist movement as citizens finally considered themselves as Americans rather than residing in a specific state. The crusade against the division amongst states lasted well into the 19th century, during which the rise of nationalism heavily correlated to both the War of 1812 and cultural and economic shifts. While the outcome of the War of 1812 played a significant role in emergence of nationalism, economic and cultural relevancy must not be dismissed as both are major contributing factors.
