...Watch The IMC Plan in Brazil, Japan, and Switzerland 1 Statement of Purpose Swatch (‗Swiss‘ + ‗watch‘) watches, created under the management of Nicolas Hayek, are fashion statements and pop-culture icons. They feature witty, outlandish designs that use intense colors and are youthful, provocative, stylish, and unpredictable. The mission of the IMC campaign is to tie the brand image with creative art in order to tell the brand story, strengthen Swatch‘s brand identity among the target audience (young students or professionals, aged 18-25) globally, and consistently incorporate different and relevant mediums (print ad, website, MTV – user-generated content, and online communities) to reach the target audience. The multi-country marketing analysis of The Swatch Group will aid in developing the IMC strategy and campaign for Swatch‘s CreArt (‗creativity‘ + ‗art‘) Collection in the following three countries: Brazil, Japan and Switzerland. When reading this, please be aware that Swatch did not impose an integrated marketing campaign in Brazil; rather, they only held one event and communicated to customers through Twitter. Therefore, the Brazil section is composed mostly of what The Swatch Group should do in order to meet their objectives. Furthermore, the cultural dimensions and components that will affect consumers shopping intention in each country will also be analyzed. Finally, based on the differences or similarities among the three countries, recommendations, including the cost-efficiency...

Promotion Sales

...1 6 CHAPTER Advertising, Publicity, and Sales Promotion In the summer of 1965, 17-year-old Fred DeLuca was trying to figure out how to pay for college. A family friend suggested that Fred open a sandwich shop—and then the friend invested $1,000 to help get it started. Within a month, they opened their first sandwich shop. From that humble start grew the Subway franchise chain with more than 33,000 outlets in 91 countries. Targeted advertising, timely publicity, and sales promotion have been important to Subway’s growth. For more than 10 years, memorable Subway ads featured Jared Fogle, a college student who was overweight but lost 245 pounds by only eating Subway’s low-fat sandwiches like the “Veggie Delite.” Jared says it was a fluke that he ended up in Subway’s ads. After all, he was recruited to do the ads because of good publicity that Subway got after national media picked up a story that Jared’s friend wrote about him in a college newspaper. Subway’s strategy at that time focused on its line of seven different sandwiches with under 6 grams of fat. The objective was to set Subway fare apart from other fast food, position it to appeal to health-conscious eaters, and spark new sales growth. Jared already knew he liked Subway sandwiches, but the “7 under 6” promotion inspired him to incorporate them into his diet. As soon as Jared’s ads began to run, word of his inspiring story spread and consumer awareness of Subway and its healthy fare increased. It’s always hard to...

...12 Integer Programming In Chap. 3 you saw several examples of the numerous and diverse applications of linear programming. However, one key limitation that prevents many more applications is the assumption of divisibility (see Sec. 3.3), which requires that noninteger values be permissible for decision variables. In many practical problems, the decision variables actually make sense only if they have integer values. For example, it is often necessary to assign people, machines, and vehicles to activities in integer quantities. If requiring integer values is the only way in which a problem deviates from a linear programming formulation, then it is an integer programming (IP) problem. (The more complete name is integer linear programming, but the adjective linear normally is dropped except when this problem is contrasted with the more esoteric integer nonlinear programming problem, which is beyond the scope of this book.) The mathematical model for integer programming is the linear programming model (see Sec. 3.2) with the one additional restriction that the variables must have integer values. If only some of the variables are required to have integer values (so the divisibility assumption holds for the rest), this model is referred to as mixed integer programming (MIP). When distinguishing the all-integer problem from this mixed case, we call the former pure integer programming. For example, the Wyndor Glass Co. problem presented in Sec. 3.1 actually would have been an IP problem...
