...Unit 5 Assignment 3 Cardiovascular The cardiovascular system, also known as the circulatory system, is a system of the body comprised of the heart, the blood, and the blood vessels. This system is responsible for transporting blood. As the cardiovascular system moves blood throughout the body, cells receive oxygen and nutrients. Carbon dioxide and other wastes are removed from the body as well. Carotid artery The function of this carotid artery is that it carries blood away from the heart. The arteries are made up from blood vessels and these supply blood to the head neck and brain. The artery is on each side of the neck, left and right. Each carotid artery branches into internal and external vessels near the top of the thyroid. The only important function that the carotid artery has is to carry the blood to the head, neck and brain to supply it with blood. The right hand side and left side carotid arteries both link off. The right side is known as the internal carotid artery which supplies blood to the brain and the eyes. The left side of the carotid artery supplies blood to the throat, neck glands, tongue, face, mouth, ear and scalp. They both have different jobs where they have to supply blood too, both these jobs are important to supply the top half of our body with blood. Subclavian arteries the Subclavian arteries carry blood away from the heart. Subclavian arteries are both on the right and left side of the body. The right Subclavian artery extends from...

...Most people believe that romance brings love and affection, but when taken to the extreme, it can lead to tragedy and despair. Romeo and Juliet may be the most famous of the great literary tragedies. The feud between the Montagues and Capulets prohibits the love and ultimately results in the death of the “star-crossed lovers”. It may be difficult to truly determine who is to blame for the tragedy because their lives were influenced and affected by many figures. But the question is, who is most to blame for the death of the two lovers? I believe that Friar Lawrence is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. He easily could have prevented their love from being too strong by not marrying them. If he didn’t act so courageously and think that their marriage would end...

...for the story of a life?" "Sure, if it's a good life. Sometimes I interview as many as three or four people a night if I'm lucky. But it has to be a good story. That's only fair, isn't it?" "Admirably fair," the vampire answered. "I would like to tell you the story of my life, then. I would like to do that very much." "Great," said the boy. And quickly he removed the small tape recorder from his brief case, making a check of the cassette and the batteries. "I'm really anxious to hear why you believe this, why you . . ." "No," said the vampire abruptly. "We can't begin that way. Is your equipment ready?" "Yes," said the boy. "Then sit down. I'm going to turn on the overhead light." "But I thought vampires didn't like light," said the boy. "If you think the dark adds to the atmosphere." But then he stopped. The vampire was watching him with his back to the window. The boy could make out nothing of his face now, and something about the still figure there distracted him. He started to say something again but he said nothing. And then he sighed with relief when the vampire moved towards the table and reached for the overhead cord. At once the room was flooded with a harsh yellow light. And the boy, staring up at the vampire, could not repress a gasp....

...creators and patrons alike. James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues” is a depiction of this triangle of cultural relations that has affected three generations of America Culture. Sonny, a pathless protagonist of the story finds music as his aim of escaping society’s African American brutal oppression in the 1950’s. Sonny’s brother makes the claim, “But there’s no need…is there? In killing yourself?” (Baldwin 59) referring to Sonny’s drug use in his musical escapes while playing nightclubs as a pianist in Greenwich Village. In the story "Sonny’s Blues" Sonny's brother makes the inaccurate assertion Sonny wants to die; in reality Sonny’s is simply trying to escape society's oppression. While living with Sonny’s brother’s family, talking in the afternoon with the brothers alone for the night; Sonny was talking about using heroin, “…what heroin feels like-when it’s in your veins…It makes you feel-in control. Sometimes you have to have that feeling.” (Baldwin 58) The commentary prior elaborated this statement when examining the singing quartet on their street and the struggles they went through to be able to sing like that, referring to the pain and passion in their voices. This helped illustrate the conflict of the time – American Culture built around discrimination and limiting the African American inner-city culture. Sonny was using heroin to feel in control of what is going on around him because in reality, he was not in control what so ever. His path or ability to get out of...

...“Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on the the dashing rocks the seasick weary! Here’s to my love! Drinks. O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.” (Act. 5, Sc. 3) Romeo killed himself for a girl he only knew for 5 days. Also, he killed Tybalt so he was locked up and it broke her heart. The potion would of never been a conversation if Romeo never killed Juliet. He also, was just in love with Rosaline the day before and then fell in love with Juliet. It was young live that didn’t last because he moved things way to fast in the relationship and it ended in death. While there may be some reasons to support the other side, the other is incorrect because Friar Lawrence is responsible for the devastating deaths. “Go hence; goodnight; and here stands all your state: Either be gone before the watch be set, or by the break of day disguised from hence. Sojourn in Mantua. I’ll find out your man!” (Act. 3, Sc.3) This is showing that Friar is letting Romeo go so he can be with his love. It’s not Romeo’s fault he was just sticking up for his friends and himself...

...cancer. Now, imagine that one of your family members or friends have this tragic disease. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world because it is one of the hardest to diagnose and cure. Tragically, by the time pancreatic cancer is diagnosed it is already too late to help the diagnosed patients before they pass. The pancreas is a vital organ in your body, and without it you will most definitely die. The pancreas is an organ found deep in the body, behind the stomach. It is about six inches long and about two inches wide. This organ spans the abdominal region. This organ is vital to human survival because it produces two very important excretions, pancreatic juices and insulin. Pancreatic juices break down the proteins and fats in the food that we eat so we can use the nutrients. Insulin is used to break the glucose in your food down into energy for your body which regulates the sugar levels in your bloodstream (www.cancer.org). Basically, the pancreas could be called one of the most useful organs in the body and if we didn’t have one we wouldn’t be able to break down food and regulate our blood sugar levels. Pancreatic cancer is caused by the out-of-control growth of cells in the pancreas. The overproduction of cells causes abnormal growths in the pancreas tissue which is classified as a tumor. Tumors interfere with the normal functions of the pancreas which cause your pancreas to slowly start to shut down. An example of a person who had...

...Religion. It is because of religion that millions have died. More will die, due to religion. For hundreds of years, religion has created barriers between people. Outspoken and strong followers of a religion shake and whither the coexistence between different faiths. On a much smaller and nonviolent scale, I have experienced the wake of religious differences. I was raised a Catholic, but as I grew older, I veered away from this practice. Growing up in an area where religion wasn't a focal point of life, it was a major culture shock when my family hunkered down in Austin, Texas. Religion was one of the main aspects of life in my new home of Austin, which is something I was unaccustomed to. Everyone I knew was a Christian; all attending the same churches, same retreats, same summer camps, same clubs. I was a fish out of water. My friend Jackson was the son of a pastor. One day, a large group of friends gathered in effort to have a surprise party for jackson. Jacksons family was also in attendance at the party. So, the cast for the evening consisted of Jackson, his family, which contained a...

...Lawrence knew that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was bad all along. So if he didn’t stop it shouldn’t he be guilty too? Well, Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story of that ends with the couple suiciding themselves, although, everybody wonders who are guilty for Romeo and Juliet’s death. I think Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death because he married them when he knew it was wrong, he could have told the families what was happening, but instead he kept it all secret, his plans were not thoughtful and he ruined everything. One of the non wise choices that the Friar Lawrence did was to marry Romeo and Juliet. ”Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall.”This quote shows us that Friar Lawrence knew that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was bad all along. Friar knew that Romeo was desperate for love and wanted to rapidly wanted to marry Juliet. ”I love rich Capulet’s daughter. I love her, and she loves me. We’re bound to each other in every possible way, except we need you to marry us. I’ll tell you more later about when and where we met, how we fell in love, and how...
