My Nevada Adventure List

St. Thomas Ghost Town
St. Thomas was a small village located along the banks of the Muddy River south of Overton, about 60 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The town was flooded in the late 1930s after the construction of Hoover Dam. Recent drought conditions have caused Lake Mead to retreat dramatically in recent years, revealing the remains of St. Thomas to the world. http://travelnevada.com/cities/info/moapa-valley/things-to-do/st-thomas-ghost-town/ Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park
Located north of Tonopah, Berlin is an abandoned mining town. Trails wind through the former mining town as well as through areas where fossils of the Ichthyosaur, essential a reptilian version of a whale, have been found. http://parks.nv.gov/parks/bi/ Goldfield
Goldfield is another ghost town located about 200 miles northwest of Las Vegas. At its peak it boasted nearly 20,000 residents. Goldfield’s buildings have long been a favorite spot for paranormal investigators. http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/nv/goldfield.html Death Valley
Technically not a “Nevada” adventure, as it is across the border in California, there is something intriguing about visiting the hottest, lowest place in the United States. http://www.nps.gov/deva/index.htm Great Basin National Park
Great Basin National Park, located four hours north of Las Vegas, is home to 13,000 foot Mount Wheeler and Nevada’s highest paved road. If I ever get over my fear of falling off mountains, I may try to summit Mount Wheeler one of these days. http://www.nps.gov/grba/index.htm Cathedral Gorge State Park
Cathedral Gorge is about 120 miles north of Las Vegas. It is a narrow canyon with several scenic slot canyon formations branching off its sides. http://parks.nv.gov/parks/cathedral-gorge/ Hidden Forest Cabin Hike
Hidden Forest has intrigued me since I moved to Las Vegas. Located 90 minutes from my house, it should seem like an easy trip. However, the access to the trailhead requires a 20 mile drive on unpaved 4WD roads that ascend a little over 2,000 feet in to the mountains. At over 11 miles round trip with a vertical ascent of 2,000 feet, the hike itself is also formidable and would take a full day or require a wilderness camping adventure. http://www.birdandhike.com/Hike/DNWR/Hidden_Forest/_Hidden.htm Beaver Dam State Park
Beaver Dam State Park is a riparian environment with trees, flowing water, and scenic cliffs located well off the beaten path in Lincoln County, Nevada. A thirty mile trip down a gravel road is necessary to access the park.

...Web sites serve different purposes. There are reliable and unreliable web sites. A personal web site, which expresses the interests and biases of its author, is a legitimate use of a web site, as long as the web site owner is up front about his or her identity. Like any other source, the authority of the author helps determine the value of the information. Be wary of sites which publish information without letting you know if the information is a personal viewpoint. 2. Is the website answers.com a reliable resource for writing an academic paper? Why or why not? My answer to this question is No; answers.com is not a reliable resource for writing academic papers. Answers.com is generally not considered a scholarly source. It is not peer reviewed as most reputable journals or other online or print material are that are considered "expert" sources. I do believe that Answers.com can be used to help in writing papers. Instead of quoting from what Answers.com says, you can...

...is one of the most important things that a child receives as they are growing up. Going to school was an adventure and everyday our brains were worked and we were able to expand our knowledge through discussion and other activities. This is not the case anymore. When the No Child Left behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was passed it was meant to herald in a new generation in learning, where every child regardless of ethnicity, social status or gender would receive the same education. This has not been the case in fact many schools are worse off now than they were before this law was passed (Smyth, 2008). The NCLB was intended to increase the funding that government funded schools received through incentives. This law made it so that schools are required to use standardized testing in order to determine what students will move on to the next grade and determine how the school is doing as a whole. There are three major areas in which the NLCB addresses: 1) all states are required to create a standard to test students with, 2) develop test to ensure that the students are at the level that is required, and 3) create measure so that the state can determine if the all students attain the prescribed levels (Dillon, 2011). All of this looks good on paper once there is an attempt to implement these standards in the real world is where the NCLB begins to fail. Schools quickly learned that in order to receive the most amount of money they had to ensure that a high percentage of their...

...dictionary attacks (pp. 41-46). And Bluetooth is susceptible to a variety of attacks, including: bluesnarfing, bluejacking, bluebugging, car whisperer and fuzzing (pp. 47-48). According to Symantec’s Jonathan Hassell, in his 2010 article “Wireless Attacks and Penetration Testing”, there are three types of wireless network attacks: Denial of Service (DoS), man in the middle, and ARP Poisoning. Missing from his list is key-cracking or bypassing wireless authentication, but Hassell does not consider this a pure attack (p. 1). Regardless of Hassell’s definition of a wireless attack, there are a variety of attacks not provided within Module 9 that deserve consideration. The DoS attack focuses on denying the availability of a resource. Albert Caballero notes that such attacks vary in rationale, but consist of intentional, persistent efforts by one or a group of people to prohibit access to a website, device or online service (2009, p. 230).  Stuart Compton has written a SANS-published paper that focuses strictly on the 802.11 standard, DoS attacks and required mitigation. Compton categorizes these DoS attacks based on the layers...

....I've forgotten how to do the real thing anyway And after hiding all this from you...its under the sheen of stars that I finally confide The sad happenings of my life......the thorns i had to bore along by my side Its under them and the gaze of pale moonlight..... that i cry my heart out......alone in the night!!!!! "You aren't angry....I can see" after an argument you say.... Ahh!!! If only you knew about the storms underneath the calm bay You keep on stabbing me straight at heart.....a million times Sometimes by your harsh words....and sometimes its your mere silence that strikes Yet still I cant tell you about everything that goes on deep inside.... Afraid that it might break us......you'll no longer be by my side! Now that the darkness has come.....so far away...out of your sight I cry, once again......all alone at midnight!!!!! I don't know till how long I can keep my self under this burden....a mask "I don't know why I don't end it for once and for all".... I ask But i get no answers as usual.....no reassuring replies.... You are not there.....never there....to listen to all my woes and cries  Its high time I realize... if I don't break out of this soon....i'll be worse than stone No emotions will be left to show.....but also no longer will be this need to moan.... Still I cant let the colors of my life.....not even the grey ones...leave me and fly but i all i can do about this.....is stand alone under the diamond studded sky in night...and cry!!...

...In a society that yearns for technology, there is one company whose name stands above the rest. That company is none other than Apple. Apple has provided technological advances for consumers since 1976. However, unknown to many, Apple does not only provide advancements in the technological aspects of the world. The company also contributes societal advancements through its social responsibilities and company ethics. Over the years, Apple has proven itself to be one of the most socially responsible companies in the United States. With numerous efforts to uphold labor laws, Apple has made changes to its practices concerning employees. One major employee related contribution Apple has made is the anti-discrimination policy. “Suppliers  shall not discriminate against any worker based on race, color, age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability, religion, political affiliation, union membership, national origin, or marital status in hiring and employment practices such as applications for employment, promotions, rewards, access to training, job assignments, wages, benefits, discipline, and termination” (https://sites.google.com/a/email.vccs.edu/bus100jbushnaq/home/apple-inc-code-of-ethics-statement). Apple gives their workers, no matter the work location, a fair chance at advancing in the company. Allowing their workers to be able to have fair access based on experience and their credibility is a great way, especially in foreign companies, to show that you care about...

This Paper Is Good

...Name: CASILIHAN, Pedreel Christian P. FINAL PAPER in World Literature SEA STORY by A.S. Byatt The purpose of analyzing a story is to understand more what is hidden behind the story itself, it is to look between the lines. Like, why is the ending like that, or why is the character behaving like that. What are those events for, why are they happening and so much more. There are many questions that can be answered when we analyze a story and look deeply into it. This is very important because every story has it’s own relevance in our own lives, or maybe in our society. Usually, a story has it’s own moral lesson, or for the reader to learn and experience. This enables the reader to relate it to his or her life, what are the similarities and differences. One can analyze if some of the happenings in the story are true to life or not. In every setting, characters, and events that occur in the story, each has it’s own interpretation. It is also helpful in such a way to enhance the reader’s analytical skills. It is also to know more about the author itself, what the author is trying to tell us. What is his/her main focus, main goal, or objectives in creating such story. Is the author delivering us a message? Or waking us up in reality? There are a lot of things that we can reveal when we deeply analyze a story. It is not about how it began, or how it ended, but how the story goes and what are the techniques that the author used to portray a certain event. There can be symbols...

5 Forces Analysis

...5 Forces Analysis on the Paper Industry Looking at the position of the paper industry relative to the five forces model I had to determine exactly what constituted the paper industry. I had to decide between the Paper Mills Industry and Pulp Mills Industry and ultimately decided to analyze the Paper Mills Industry specifically when it came to paper industry as a whole. The NAICS Code that corresponds to the Paper Mills Industry is NAICS: 322121 or SIC Code 2621. Porter’s Five Forces Model of Competition includes the firm’s, or in this case the paper mill industry’s, position relative to current competitors, suppliers, customers, potential new entrants and potential substitutes. Over the next few pages I will conduct a five forces analysis of the Paper Mills Industry. Current Competitors: The degree of rivalry in the paper industry is the center of the five forces and the other four forces branch off of this. The first aspect to look at is the number and position of companies within the paper industry. There were 445 companies in 2009 and as of 2013 there are now 119 companies in the industry. This industry still has many competitors within the industry and therefor, there shouldn’t be any impact of any particular company. This industry is large enough where these firms can prosper without having to steal market share from each other and this is a positive for the paper industry. The second key factor is the industry growth rate and if there is room to increase revenues...

...9th grade English rules. My very first piece, “If You Give a Suitor a Cookie”, was an analytical 8-point paper about The Odyssey, and it was quite literally the worst paper I have ever written. It was so terrible, that I couldn’t even make it through the first paragraph, when I attempted to re-read it. I remembered my writing not being horrible, because, otherwise, I wouldn’t have turned it in. As I recall, it was so bad, that you didn’t even grade it, because I would’ve gotten an F (thank you about that, by the way). This paper exemplifies the very beginning of my career as a high school writer, and through re-reading...

...writing the introduction to the paper. Next, I do the actual writing of the paper and describe each topic in more detail. The last step is to, I revise it in case of any errors. I also revise it to make it better. Each step is important in order to make my writing good. I will discuss in depth and detail about each part of my writing process. As soon as I get the topic and know what I am to write about, I think to myself of some of the ideas that I have that could relate to this piece of writing. Often times, I come up with a story in my own life that can relate or something that I know of that can influence my paper to have more meaning, not only to the reader, but also to me. It will make writing the paper easier if you can make a connection to the topic and relate it to yourself somehow. If I don’t really have a way to connect it I just brainstorm for things or ideas that can be included or used in the piece. I make a list of things pertaining to the paper so I can go through the list easier. If it is a really detailed piece, I sometimes use the web process. If it is necessary to the paper, I will research the topic and try to gather more information about it. If not, I just stick to the list or web. Each one of my idea gathering processes has its benefits and is used depending on the type of paper I need to write. At this point, I would now have all of my ideas and my “helpers” in writing my paper. I would start with the introduction of my paper. In a few paragraphs, I would...
