Threat is defined as an intention or statement to cause damage or hostile action against someone or something for retribution. When security managers don't manage risk properly they are vulnerable to threats. This can be any situation possible will involve some risk and leave someone or something vulnerable to threats, there is no way to eliminate risk completely but there are ways to manage risk and reduce the vulnerabilities and thus reducing the threats. This is one of if not the most crucial part of being a security manager. You will need to constantly do risk and threat assessment of the property or assets you’re in charge of protecting this includes both from seen and un-seen hazards. This is an example of a risk and threat assessment of a local business that I am employed at, had I been a security manager this is what threats and vulnerabilities I found and assessment of how to reduce them. The drift away from the professional accountant’s role as a fiduciary to that of a businessperson was called into question and reversed. The principles that the new expectations spawned and renewed resulted in changes in how the professional accountants are to behave, what services are to be offered, and what performance standards are to be met. These standards have been embedded in a new governance structure and in guidance mechanisms, which have domestic and international components. Despite prior research on auditor independence, the results are inconclusive. The lack of research in the Hong Kong ´ˆ auditing environment motivates this study, particularly following the Enron debacle. The purpose of this paper is to examine the non-audit services (NASs), competition, rank and types of auditors, in respect of the independence problem as it relates to the practices of Hong Kong auditors in the post-Enron environment. Design/methodology/approach – Four independent variables identified from literature gaps are examined, namely NASs, levels of competition, auditors of different ranks and types of auditors. Mixed ANOVA are employed to analyze survey responses from 207 “Big 4” and 185 “non-Big 4” auditors. Findings – Results of the study show that the provisions of NASs and high competition could have a negative influence on auditors’ perceptions of independence. The corporate culture at AIG had been involved in a high-stakes risk-taking scheme supported by managers and employees that appeared entirely focused on short-term financial gain. Out of a firm of 116,000 employees, one unit with around 500 employees, AIG Financial Products, was chiefly to blame for bringing down the company, and former CEO Ed Liddy, who was summoned by former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, estimates that of that number only twenty to thirty people were directly involved. The AIG Financial Products unit specialized in derivatives and other complex financial contracts that were tied to subprime mortgages or commodities. While its dealings were risky, the unit generated billions of dollars in profits for AIG. Even so, during his long tenure as CEO of AIG, Maurice “Hank” Greenberg had been open about his suspicions of the AIG Financial Products unit.
