In “College Does Help the Poor” by Tim Bartik and Brad Hershbein, whether college pays off for the poor is one question that many people have. Life after college for individuals from low-income families differs from life after college for people from higher-income families. Studies have shown that individuals who graduate from college have a greater income increase than those who only graduate from high school. There are still disadvantages for individuals who come from low-income families. Two major disadvantages they face are that they earn less, and they have less access to higher paying jobs than those who come from higher-income backgrounds. This can lead many to believe that college is not worth it, but that shouldn’t discourage anyone
