Use the links in the online companion for this chapter, your favorite search engine, and resources in your library to learn more about Covad and its current competitors in the cable industry primarily Cox Cable, Comcast, and TimeWarner Cable, but there are others). Prepare a report of about 600 words in which you outline and analyze the strengths and weaknesses that Covads has with respect to each of these competitors. Strengths 1. Covad’s ClearEdge Pro is a fully hosted network-based VoIP service for customers with 10 to 250 users per site. The service makes the jump to VoIP easy for small companies that have not invested in an IP-based phone system and for mid-sized companies that must connect branch offices and want to offer a consistent feature set across all locations. ClearEdge Pro is compatible with IP handsets from Cisco, Polycom, and LG, as well as traditional analog handsets. 2. Covad ClearEdge IA is premises-based solution that works with customers’ existing PBX or key telephone system to deliver unlimited local and long-distance minutes, high-speed T1 broadband, dynamic bandwidth allocation, and e-mail and Web hosting services. ...Disney: Diagnosing the Change HRM-587 Managing Organizational Change August 3rd, 2014 Introduction: Choosing a Diagnostic Model The diagnostic model I have chosen to discuss to analyze Disney and several of the companies acquired throughout the years such as Pixar, Marvel, and LucasFilm’s LTD for this assignment is the 7-S Framework model. I will also briefly discuss the many changes that Disney has implemented to improve the customer viewing as well as interactive experiences at their many new, current theme parks, and vacation destinations throughout the world. The 7-S model developed by McKinsey and Company consultants Robert Waterman Jr., Tom Peters, and Julien Phillips (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). The 7-S model may be used in a variety of situations where an alignment perspective is useful, for example, to help 1) improve the performance of the company, 2) examine the likely effects of future changes within a company, 3) align departments and processes during a merger or acquisition, 4) determine how best to implement a proposed strategy (Manktelow, J. 2014). The 7-S model is characterized by seven categories: Structure, strategy, systems, style, staff, skills, and superordinate goals (Palmer et al., 2009). The structure of the company was set and solidified by Walt Disney himself. He wanted to create something brilliant and diversified. This idea would be able to change through the years and remain a competitive force in the industry. Throughout Walt Disney’s...

...JS 5/1/2013 POLS 3315-001 Party Issue Valuations and Reassessments Why do political parties in the United States abandon or revisit specific issues? Moreover, what is the driving force behind a party making an issue politically salient? Some examples that could be correlated with these questions could be why the Republican Party has stayed silent on issues that many old-guard Democrats feel is contentious in the current administration, why the sudden recent ideological transformation of conservative party, or why many politicians steer clear from Wall-Street related subjects (even though lashing out against bankers these days is sure to garner some attention, and most likely support from the general public). All of these examples and more will be discussed in order to provide a sufficient answer as to why issues are left behind in the dust or put out prominently on display. There are numerous factors and variables to consider when trying answering such a question, one of which could be racial factors. It’s been largely documented that Latinos have been an increasingly growing electorate, going from 1 percent of voters from the 1950s to over 11% in the twenty-first century (Abramowitz 27). With this information in mind, it would make sense that the Democratic establishment is today trying to initiate immigration reform in the United States Senate, knowing that they’ll have an increasing amount of support from their Latino electorate. It should also be noted that although...

...PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS o Should Pixar seek a better distribution deal outside of Disney? o Can it seek a better deal with Disney? John Pongsajapan Xin Ye SPRING 2005 BEM 106 FINAL PROJECT 1 I. Introduction: In 1986, Steve Jobs purchased the computer graphics division of Lucas Films Ltd. for $10 million and established Pixar Animation Studios. Since its inception, Pixar established itself as a leader and innovator in computer animation. Its first animated short films garnered many film awards, most notably The Tin Toy, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1989. In 1991, Pixar entered into a three-picture co-production deal with Disney. Following the success of Toy Story, this relationship was extended to include three more pictures. A string of blockbuster hits followed, each film doing better than its predecessors. A Bug’s Life was the highest grossing film of 1998. Toy Story 2 became the highest grossing animated movie of its time in 1999, later topped by Monsters, Inc. in 2001, and then by Finding Nemo in 2003. On January 30, 2004, it was announced that Pixar and Disney had failed in their negotiations to extend their contract beyond the animated film Cars, to be released in 2006. With the stellar success of Finding Nemo, Pixar felt entitled to a more profitable contract with Disney. The new Disney CEO Robert Iger has stated that he will continue negotiations with Pixar. Before Pixar makes its decision on its future...

...Internet Value Chain Economics Gaining a deeper understanding of the Internet economy W hen considering the technological innovations of the past 50 years, the Internet is probably the one that has had the greatest impact on everyday life in developed economies. Nearly six out of 10 Americans now shop online and more than four out of 10 bank online. Twenty hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, while 5 percent of all time online is spent on the social networking site, Facebook. The Internet has also changed the way in which businesses operate—today, 64 percent of C-level executives conduct six or more searches per day to locate business information. The Internet has been a source of great good—as evidenced by the role played by Internet-based mapping and communications in the relief effort following the recent Haiti earthquake. The Internet also has shown a negative side—more than 97 percent of all emails are spam, while more than 70 percent of Americans fear online identity theft and 57 percent feel that their personal privacy has been greatly diminished by the Internet.1 Behind these statistics and headlines, however, there remains a low level of understanding of how the Internet economy works. Who are the different players involved in the Internet, beyond the flagship names? How is the industry structured and how concentrated is it? How do players make money and how do revenues flow across the value chain? Is the industry attractive in terms of growth...

...Leadership in Action: Leading Effectively in Humanitarian Operations A CK N O W L E D G E M E N TS First and foremost, we would like to thank the individuals who allowed their leadership to be placed in the spotlight as one of our case-study examples of effective operational humanitarian leadership. Their generosity and openness in doing so and in answering our many questions are greatly appreciated. We also thank the many other interviewees who spoke to us frankly and shared their insights on what they valued in terms of operational humanitarian leadership. David Peppiatt played an important role in identifying and facilitating a number of the case studies. Isobel McConnan carried out interviews and provided helpful comments on earlier drafts. Georgia Armitage helped with the literature review. The Advisory Group provided invaluable input, words of advice and comments on the draft report, they are: Tim Cross, Wendy Fenton, Randolph Kent, Ky Luu, and Claire Messina. Paul Knox Clarke’s inputs undoubtedly raised the quality of the analysis. Deborah Eade provided excellent editorial services and comments. Sara Swords also commented on an earlier draft. Ben Ramalingam played a key role in getting the study off the ground and in its design. Finally, thanks to John Mitchell for his ongoing and valuable support to this work. The project was undertaken as part of the joint initiative on leadership in the humanitarian sector in partnership with People In Aid, Humanitarian...

...Bloodlines of Illuminati by: Fritz Springmeier, 1995 Introduction: I am pleased & honored to present this book to those in the world who love the truth. This is a book for lovers of the Truth. This is a book for those who are already familiar with my past writings. An Illuminati Grand Master once said that the world is a stage and we are all actors. Of course this was not an original thought, but it certainly is a way of describing the Illuminati view of how the world works. The people of the world are an audience to which the Illuminati entertain with propaganda. Just one of the thousands of recent examples of this type of acting done for the public was President Bill Clinton’s 1995 State of the Union address. The speech was designed to push all of the warm fuzzy buttons of his listening audience that he could. All the green lights for acceptance were systematically pushed by the President’s speech with the help of a controlled congressional audience. The truth on the other hand doesn’t always tickle the ear and warm the ego of its listeners. The light of truth in this book will be too bright for some people who will want to return to the safe comfort of their darkness. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I deal with real facts, not theory. Some of the people I write about, I have met. Some of the people I expose are alive and very dangerous. The darkness has never liked the light. Yet, many of the secrets of the Illuminati are locked up tightly simply because secrecy is a way...
