...This case study clearly demonstrates a form of plagiarism known as paraphrasing. Although Teresa claims she changed around the words of the text to make it her own; she still used “someone else’s ideas” (Junyk) and thoughts without citing accordingly. Many examples of paraphrasing exist within Teresa’s work. Throughout Teresa’s paragraph, many of her sentences consist of the same patterning sequence that the original passage follows. Her introductory sentence to the paragraph also reflects the same ideas presented in King Lear. Therefore, Teresa’s work not only follows similar sentence structure that is parallel to the original passage, but uses the same ideas and thoughts expressed in the academic source without properly citing reference to the author. Teresa has “failed to take into consideration the concepts of justice and human dignity that apply to sources in academic writing” (Junyk) through her lack of understanding of producing an essay using imitation. Essentially, she compromised her academic integrity as she knowingly took a passage from an academic source, altering it to make it her own. It is unclear whether this was done through intention or a lack of understanding. Many students may understand that copying and pasting from a source is an obvious form of plagiarism, but may not consider paraphrasing to be as well. Paraphrasing can also become challenging to acknowledge as a form of plagiarism, because it can sometimes be hard to distinguish between what you...

...on, there will be an explanation on some of the skills below. An example of one of these skills is self-reflection, it is a process that helps students review how they are developing and where there is room for improvement. PDP in Gsm enables students to be better learners, it also teaches them how to reach their full potential. Paraphrasing can be defined as “Expressing the meaning of (something written or spoken) using different words, especially to achieve greater clarity” (Oxford dictionary, 2015), It is a literary tool that helps a student use their own words to convey or incorporate another person’s idea or message into their work without plagiarism. Some other uses of paraphrasing are. Paraphrasing is necessary for academic writing, Universities students need paraphrasing to produce work in that level(Lebedev, 2014).Paraphrasing is a very useful for academic purposes as it shows an understanding of the material and it also shows the student is able to integrate others ideas into their writing. ...After each report I struggle when it comes taking the time to sit down and reread the report to correct the errors. How I plan on correcting this problem is to set the paper down for an hour when I get done writing it. Then after that hour pick it up and reread it to correct the mistakes. This should let my mind become clear, so it can pick out the errors. Heading (Needs Work #2) I also struggle with placing quotes and adding paraphrases into the report. One of the main problems I have with quoting something is when I add the quote into the report I don’t introduce it well into it. The paraphrasing is a little better than the quoting but I could still use some improvement. To fix my issues with quoting and paraphrasing I plan on going back into the assignments form the beginning of the semester and redoing some of them to work on quoting and paraphrasing. These practices should help me grab a better understanding on how to integrate the quotes and paraphrases correctly into the reports. Conclusion...

...HOW TO USE SOURCES IN YOUR PAPER A Tutorial Using outside research sources Most writers who are asked to use outside research sources in their academic papers have problems at one time or another with at least one of the following questions: I’m lost!! ...What is Plagiarism? According to Black’s Law Dictionary plagiarism is “The act of appropriating the literary composition of another, or parts or passages of his writings, or the ideas or language of the same, and passing them off as the product of one’s own mind” (Black & Nolan, 1990, p. 1150). Stated another way, plagiarism is the pilfering of another’s hard work, while taking the credit for oneself. ‘The word ‘plagiarism’ comes from the Latin word plagiarius, which means ‘kidnapper.’ Writers commit plagiarism when they ‘kidnap’ someone else's work without acknowledging the source” (Hooker, 2006). First of all there are countless explanations for why a student may plagiarize, in some cases students are just plain lazy and don’t want to go through the creative process, exerting the meticulous hard work that good writing requires. There are students that suffer from poor time management skills failing to realize the amount of study and research required to deliver a genuine analysis. Likewise there are those that persist in poor note taking habits, leaving out important bits of information here and there causing confusion when it’s time to put it all together. Additionally there are students who are unaware of proper citation technique (What is Plagiarism?, n.d.). Meanwhile, plagiarism falls into one of two categories, one is intentional plagiarism, and the other is unintentional plagiarism. In the case of intentional plagiarism the writer or student knowingly uses the work...

...Communication is one of the most essential parts of running a successful business. Unfortunately many people struggle with the fact that their own bosses/managers are almost inept at conveying constructive and meaningful feedback. The best bosses will make that investment and help you grow and develop, but it doesn't always work out that way, so you need to take your professional development into your own hands. It’s actually one of the most valuable skills you can learn, because unfortunately you’re likely to be in the same situation more than once in your career. On a personal level, I had an experience a few years ago. I just started a new job and try as I might, I could not get my manager to relay any real feedback on the work I was (trying) to do. Here are a few simple steps that I would suggest to follow based on my own past experiences. State the issue. Tell your manager that you see how hard he/she works, and that you would like to make their lives easier by doing well at your work. Tell her you have an idea that might work for both of you. A little investment each week can be a big investment in the future. Once you have told your manager the issue, set up a plan that works for both of you. Set up weekly meetings. Ask your manager if you can set up a regular time each week to meet to go over progress on your work, talk about new issues that might have come up, and get input on questions you’ve encountered. Thirty minutes is ideal, but if all you can get is 15...

...HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM: USEFUL INFO, TIPS, AND FREE PLAGIARISM SCANNERS WHAT IS PLAGIARISM? Every student has heard of plagiarism, but what is it exactly? By definition, plagiarism is “the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.”[i] In other words, plagiarism is theft. It is against the rules in all academic institutions and, though not a criminal offense, can be detrimental to one’s academic career. What happens to students who plagiarize is entirely up to their academic institution: consequences range from a stern warning to expulsion, depending on the severity of the case and the institution’s policy. Of course, not all plagiarism is done on purpose: often, students make citation errors or...

...FISH! Fish! The book, helped me see my life and work in a new way. Fish! Is a fictional story, but it is based on that real fish market - the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle, Washington. It can teach lessons that I think we all need to be reminded of periodically. Fish! Tackles one of the challenges of leadership - how to transform a poorly performing team and business to make the workplace more playful and productive. The main character is Mary Jane, a manager at a financial group. The story is about her effort to introduce a playfully productive atmosphere into a group, to which she has just been promoted. After speaking to a fishmonger and observing his employees, she gets some great tips to help motivate her team. Things I’ve learned from reading this book: I can choose my attitude. Whenever I’m working on a task that may not be my favorite, which would be a perm for me. I could choose to be bored or maybe rush through this service or I could put a smile on my face and give that client the best perm she ever had. A great attitude makes me more money and the client will surely refer her friends to me. Playing needs to be included daily life. Lively music playing in the background boosts positive energy. I introduced monthly sales contents that included prizes. Shop parties and girls’ night out always a big hit. Out of town trips to hair shows were great for team building. Happy people treat others well. I know there’s a difference between...

...Each paper should be about 5 pages in length. But if you feel you need more space for fuller explication, you can go beyond that. The paper should use the text to respond to the assignment questions.. The paper should use a Works Cited format. All that means is that when important information is cited in your paper, or when you are quoting directly from the text, you cite the page number(s) within the text. The purpose of this format is to enable the reader to find the information her or himself, or to check the accuracy of the information. When quoting, paraphrasing, or citing significant information or significant claims you should cite within the text. For example: Alexander observed (20) that “For more than one hundred years, scholars have written about the illusory nature of the Emancipation Proclamation.” You do not have to write out On page 20 Alexander observed that “For more than……. (See Writing Tips) Remember Stiglitz tends to be a very organized and structured writer, after the main premise is stated, he then substantiates his argument, elaborating his claims with examples and illustrations. In Chapters 5, 6, and 7 Stiglitz argues that moneyed interests (the top 1%) get their way in several battlegrounds that are related to the distribution of the economic pie; battles in the political arena, in the battle to establish perceptions of economic reality, and the battle over the laws and regulations that govern the economy. ...Hi Michele, Thank you for submitting the report on Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Aesthetics, Political, and Social Philosophy. I can see you have a personal philosophy expressing good ideas on the six fields of philosophy. When I reviewed the Unit 2 IP submission, I noted there was information that directly matched the content in several websites, word for word. (Identified on the Turnitin Report) at 17%. This is an instructional note Michele to let you know the issues with paraphrasing or using complete sentences without directly quoting and citing. When you paraphrase or borrow direct sentences, the information is written without your voice, words, phrases, or ideas. When paraphrasing a sentence citation and quotes are required. It is generally accepted that using three or more of the author’s original words is a direct lift and requires quotation marks or indentation. Changing one or a few words in a paragraph does not constitute paraphrasing the material. It is necessary to quote phrases or words identical to the authors, or it will change its meaning. However, direct quotes, not proper names or titles, should be limited. At least 85% of your paper should be in your own words, (not copied) and include a citation. When copying or borrowing other people's work, it is difficult to gauge your understanding of the material, because writing information verbatim does not show me that you read the material, thought about, perhaps analyzed it, broke...

...PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTION PLAN & NEXT STEPS OBJECTIVE: To become an Active Listener. This new competence cannot to be achieved within a set time frame. It will need to be developed and cultivated within my professional environment, such as meetings with customers or staffs or on a personal level, with my wife. What benefits will you gain by changing this behaviour or attitude, or acquiring this new competence? Becoming an active listener is both a Personal and Professional competence which will ultimately improve my communication skills, i.e. how I react further to information I have. Becoming a good listener will help me in overcoming a very bad habit I have developed over the years, i.e. an impulsive behaviour, knee-jerk responses, ultimately culminating in anger outburst. What do you think will be the key obstacles you will face when trying to change this behaviour or attitude, or acquire this new competence? The key obstacle will be primarily to overcome a habit. It’s an innate behaviour acquired, which will have to be dominated or controlled. But it also a defensive response that I have somehow acquired with experience at work or personal life as well when I feel cornered or being attacked. Another obstacle, in my case is being of a defensive nature, I tend to formulate replies and in the process, miss out on the conversation ongoing. Distraction is another obstacle. Amidst an important meeting or discussion, I tend to get Easily Distracted...
