* Nació en Madrid el 9 de Marzo, 1584 * Su nombre Tirso de Molina es un seudónimo de Gabriel Téllez * Estudio en la Universidad de Alcalá * En 1601, se junto con la orden de la merced * Esto empezó su vida como monje * Estudio teología en Toledo para 6 anos y fue ordenado un sacerdote en 1606 * Empezó a escribir obras en este ano, siguiendo la forma de Lope Vega y su comedia nueva * Viajo al caribe en 1616-1618 para estudiar el orden de la merced y el monasterio * Después de regresar a España, Tirso escribió obras sobre temas políticas * Estas obras se consideraban escandalosas y controversiales porque un monje no debía escribir sobre temas políticas en una manera humorosa como Tirso había hecho porque era mal ejemplo para el publico * Tirso también tuvo una tendencia de incluir humor escatológico en sus obras * Consiguió una advertencia, pero desobedeció y fue exiliado a los monasterios rurales * Su sobrino dice que Tirso ha escrito mas que 400 obras, pero solo 55 son reconocidos como originales de Tirso * Sus obras contienen temas importantes y comunes de la época como historia de España y Portugal, contenido bíblico, temas contemporáneos * Temas religiosas, filosóficas y teológicas están presente en sus obras * Sus obras mas famosas son D, El Condenado por Desconfiado (teológico), La Prudencia de la Mujer (histórico), y Don Gil de las Calzas Verdes (humorosa) * Junto con Lope Vega y Pedro Calderón, Tirso de Molina es conocido como uno de los autores mas famosos y conocidos del siglo 17 y por el fin del siglo de oro * Tirso era el jefe del Orden de la Merced desde 1647 * Murió en Almazán el 20 de Febrero, 1648

...Act I, Scene I At the opening of the play, Duchess Isabelle of Naples tells “Duke Octavius” to leave quickly, implying that the King of Naples would discover him and punish the two. Before he gets to leave, they whisper romantic nothings to one another and the king discovers them. When the king discovers the two, he has Don Pedro deal with the situation. After the king leaves, Don Pedro tells all of the guards to leave and Don Juan and Don Pedro begin talking. Don Juan tries to keep up the disguise of Octavius by telling Pedro he is his nephew. Don Pedro doesn’t believe this and Don Juan tells him that he tricked Isabelle into lying with him by being Octavius. Don Pedro tells us that Don Juan was exiled from Castile to Naples. Don Pedro lets him escape and tells him to return to Spain. Then the king comes in, and Don Pedro tells the King of how Don Juan tricked the guards and escaped. Then the king takes Isabelle and asks her to explain but just ends up yelling at her. The king wants Duke Octavius arrested. Then the king refuses to look at Isabelle. Act I, Scene II Octavius and his servant are talking about his love for Isabelle, when suddenly Don Pedro arrives. Don Pedro announces that he is there to arrest Octavius, and Don Pedro says that Octavius raped Isabelle. Octavius says that he loves Isabelle, but Don Pedro explains that he must go. ...Lauren Strickland Professor Morong LBST 1104-563 17 November 2013 Love The Doctor Analysis On November 3rd, 2013 I watched a production of Love the Doctor in the Black Box Theater at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Love the Doctor is a play by Tirso de Molina; it surrounds the story of a girl Dona Jeronima and how she becomes a doctor and finds love. Jeronima falls in love with a man whom does not realize she exists and then she makes it her mission to make him love her and also to become a doctor. For this production of Love the Doctor I believe that the playwright and creative team was trying to get across the fact that women should always feel empowered. The leading lady did not want to do either of the socially acceptable options for a lady during that time, marry a man that was picked for her or join a nunnery, she wanted to practice medicine. I really believe that this play was trying to show that it is possible to break the metaphorical glass ceiling that women encounter in the work force. The director of this production of Love the Doctor was Erin Freeman. Because I have never seen a different production of this particular play, I do not have anything to compare the particular directing style to. I believe that the director wanted the concept of this play to be that glass ceilings can be broken and that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to.
