...How The Battle of Takur Ghar Changed Small Unit Tactics. Special Operation Forces (SOF) operate in remote locations around the world. Most people have little to no knowledge of what takes place within these elite units. There have been many instances throughout history that influenced how future wars would be fought. Friendly and enemy tactics change regularly depending on the enemy and where the fighting takes place. Currently our country is still fighting a war in Afghanistan. Many battles have taken place and many of these battles changed the tactics we are using this very second. The very unfortunate events that took place in March of 2002 in the mountains of Afghanistan during The Battle of Takur Ghar forever changed the way SOF operates in combat. These changes significantly altered the way SOF is allowed to infill troops on ground, in many instances making the missions less effective. The Battle The Battle of Takur Ghar started out as a simple mission where two Seal Teams were supposed to be inserted by two separate helicopters in order set up an observation post on the peak of the mountain named Takur Ghar. The U.S. Forces had no idea that the Landing Zone (LZ) at the peak had two enemy bunker positions that were well hidden and concealed by snow and foliage. The fighting positions even remained undetected from our aerial reconnaissance aircrafts. The first helicopter approached the LZ for landing and was immediately struck by a Rocket Propelled Grenade...

...Top three modes are focused on the reduced capacity of hospitals, the financial and geographic barriers, and the care and reimbursement difficulty. Therefore, the tactics for the reduced capacity of hospitals will be to stop regulating hospitals to the extreme. The authors suggest that “patients are placed in hallways with no direct nursing observation during periods of crowding. Indeed, some patients who are very ill must remain in the waiting room” (Derlet & Richards, 2008). The tactics for the financial and geographic barriers is to locate patients from all the regions, but with the particular limit. And the last one but not the east one is built on providing care only to patients with emergencies. According to the authors of the article “Ten Solutions for Emergency Department Crowding,” it must be highlighted that “a more cost-effective, appropriate, and efficient method of treating non-emergent medical problems occurs in urgent or primary care clinics, provided these are available” (Derlet & Richards, 2008). As a result, all of it can lead to the high level of prevention the Emergency Room waiting time. These...

This document is a secondary source written in 2014 by an author name Alan Rohn published on the website, thevietnamwar.info. The purpose of this source is to present a simple and general informing document about how US tactics were ineffective during the Vietnam War, resulting in a defeat for the U.S.. The value of this source is the direct reference to U.S. operations and presidential decisions surrounding the Vietnam War, presenting clear information historians can use to further evaluate how U.S. tactics failed specifically in military operations and politically. However information within the document is mainly negative surrounding the topic of why the U.S. failed militarily, thus rendering it hard for historians to evaluate what succeeded against North...

...pilots killed thousands in New York and Washington, and as suicide terrorists kill innocent civilians worldwide, it is important to note that history clearly shows, that those who turned to systematic use of suicide warfare, lost their war. In addition to the Japanese Kamikaze pilots air campaign, the essay also explores other suicide weapons and tactics in World War 2, and the military and cultural rationale of suicide warfare, in order to better understand this type of fanatic threat that the free world is facing once again. Kamikaze pilots - Japan's last weapon Kamikaze, which means "Divine Wind" in Japanese, was Japan's last attempt to balance the ever increasing technological and material advantage of the American forces advancing to Japan. The Kamikaze attack tactic was suggested on October 19, 1944, by vice-Admiral Onishi of the Japanese Navy, when he was assigned to command the air attacks against the huge American invasion fleet off the Philippines, and then realized that he had less than 100 operational aircraft for this task. There was no way to sink or even severely damage the American fleet in any conventional tactic, so the Admiral needed a force multiplier, a way to get a significantly greater striking power from a given force. The solution was obvious. Guided weapons provide dramatically greater accuracy and lethality than unguided weapons, producing much greater damage per weapon unit and per sortie. Such weapons already existed and were operational for...

...aerial assault from a C-47 Sky Train, in December 1944. Barrels pointed downward onto the rubble covered road. Passing over the road is a German Panzer Tank followed by a platoon of German soldiers carrying MP-40 Machine Pistols. As, the 101st nervously prepares to engage a Panzer Tank, which has them outmanned and outgunned, they hear a whistling sound in the distance believed to be an aircraft. Before they know a P-51 Mustang fighter plane, also known as a “Tank Killer” swoops in and knocks the Panzer out. Unexpectedly, the airborne troops open fire. A few long seconds later, the Panzer Tank sits smoldering in flames and a platoon of Nazis lays dead all around. Never before has the world, scene such a vast arsenal of weapons and tactics used. This will be reflected on the amount of lives, military and civilian, lost in the short span of 1939-1945. The devastation that took place would not just be repaired and forgotten. There is still evidence all over the Europe, North America, and Asia, of World War II and the lives that were lost. Not only was this the coming of an age, for military powers, but World War II also brought about many things that have become used for non-military jobs. According to Kramnik (2010) Every great war, especially one involving great powers on both sides, brings something new to the art of warfare. But World War II was out of the ordinary in that respect. The changes in the structure, hardware, equipment and the way...

...Current Talent Management Function Jose A. Cortes Walden University Abstract When developing a talent management transformation many steps must be taken before implementing a strategy. One of those steps is to create a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis. For the purpose of this paper, the 2010 Aaron’s Incorporated Form10K will be used to analyze and formulate twelve questions that will address the external and internal factors that comprise the analysis. These questions will be instrumental to the alignment of the talent management initiative with the organizational strategy. Current Talent Management Function Having a clear understanding of how a Human Resource (HR) transformation connects to the context of the business is paramount when designing strategies. Once the business leaders and HR professionals have established the needs measured against the business challenges they can design the strategies. Organizations must have the capability to deliver promises to customers. A key factor for this deliverable is talent. Companies must invest on securing candidates that are competent and committed. Ulrich et al (2009) stated that assuring competent employees comes as leaders buy (bring in new talent), build (develop existing talent), borrow (access thought leaders through alliances or partnerships), bounce (remove poor talent), and bind (keep the best talent). When it comes to managing talent, as in any other...

...leadership, organizational, and physical fitness. S.W.A.T. candidates also must have excellent communication skills, empathy, strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. But one of the most critical and important characteristic an individual must, is the ability to refrain oneself from becoming emotionally attached to any case, because that would create bias. The usual salary range of an ordinary police detective is about an annual income of $75,000. However, if an individual makes it to the top ten percent, meaning they are one of the best, then they have a possibility to make over $100,000 a year. The typical work hours are about 8 to 9 hours a day, Monday through Friday, but as a detective you are always on call. The only benefits a police detective has are: advanced weapon training, better physical health, and development of better police tactics. The usual a annual salary of S.W.A.T. members is about $56,000. But again, if someone were to make it within the top ten percent, then they could make up to $85,000 dollars a year. S.W.A.T. members only get called out for emergencies, like riots, suicide attempts, hostage situations, drug raids, etc. The typical hours a member works is about 15 hours a month, if not every two months. However, most members hold positions as police officers. Kendall Glass, a police officer at Stockton, California, was asked what is to be expected when in the field. He recalled back when he was first a detentions officer at Stockton, he claimed...

...implement policy that is intended to disrupt internal subversion. The objective is to combat enemy insurgents and their agenda, in order to develop a peaceful infrastructure. The theatre of conflict both on U.S., and foreign soil, (namely Iraq, and Afghanistan) consist of enemies who do not have the capabilities to engage our coalition forces through conventional warfare. Conventional warfare is: opposing forces who engage one another using conventional weapon systems and tactics, in order to degrade or destroy their opponents abilities to operate. Due to the superior capacity of coalition forces both economically, and tactically, the way in which the enemy operates in current theatre has deviated from conventional forms of fighting. Enemy Insurgents use unconventional warfare in their fighting tactics, and this irregular warfare involves many actors from civilian population to enemy combatants, and resources. Because of the fast changing wartime climate, the DoD has developed policy that was nonexistent a mere ten years ago. The DoD has developed the Counter Insurgency Initiatives in order to implement policy that gives guidance to actors involved in current theatre combat operations. Insurgency is the organized use of subversion and violence, to seize, nullify, or challenge political control of a region (COIN Initiative 2009). Counterinsurgency (COIN) places great demands on the ability of bureaucracies to work together with allies, and more increasingly non-governmental organizations...

...11/06/2012 Introduction Economic Freedom is an individual or corporation’s ability to exchange any goods or services without being forced to do so. Since everyone does not think or respond to a specific situation alike, each person is granted the freedom to respond in a manner they feel is appropriate and beneficial to his or her current situation. Economic freedom is heavily dependent on characteristics such as empowering individuals, an open competitive market, and does not discriminate in order to allow all parties involved a chance to be successful. Economic Freedom Index In Heritage Foundation’s release of the 2012 Index of Economic Freedom, the top ten countries range from Hong Kong to the United States. Economic freedom is determined by evaluating 10 components to arrive at the final index number. Each component is scored on a scale between 0 and 100 with zero being the lowest score and 100 being the highest. The overall economic freedom index number is an average of the 10 individual freedoms. In an effort to increase the understanding and readability of the economic freedom index, the 10 economic freedoms were grouped into four categories. The table below lists the 10 economic freedoms and the category in which it is classified under. |Rule of Law |Limited Gov’t |Regulatory Efficiency |Open Markets ...
