...As a part of a research project in our Business Communication class, we targeted the laptop requirement by students in the College of Business. Reasoning for the policy being implemented, its helpfulness for students and faculty alike, and the policy’s effectiveness was our main focus. This report will show the results of that research. Students, faculty, and the administration in the college of business were our focal point. Surveys were given to students with questions regarding financial hardships caused by laptop requirement and their opinions of the policy among others. Faculty was interviewed on their thoughts and how the policy helped with the classroom. Administration helped with the reasoning behind implementing the policy and some hints to phase outs of the computer labs located in the college of business. We found that students believed that the policy is not effective, but should be enforced. For faculty, some believe that the policy is helpful for learning and welcome laptops in the classroom while others feel that laptops can be a distraction to everyone. The administration implemented the policy because they want students to have the ability to work anywhere at any time with the specialized tools/software needed for courses taken. They also feel laptops are necessary for non-traditional students who may be full time professionals and have the option to complete courses online. Rumors that the laptop requirement was put into place because of possible computer...

...Mr. Fred Smith FedEx Corporation 3875 Airways, Module H3 Memphis, TN, 38116 Dear Mr. Fred Smith, Your company, FedEx, approached our company, The (company name) on October 12, 2009, with the desire of becoming more eco-friendly. The vast majority of your vehicles are not alternative fuel based; however our company would like to help enhance your fuel usage by developing a fuel that is healthier for the environment. The (company name) is pleased to submit this report to provide more environmentally friendly fuel for the trucks and planes for FedEx Corporation. Our company has been providing guidance to companies in the Los Angeles area in the subject of greener fuels since the year 2000. Many of the companies we have worked with have seen great success and are implementing the strategies we put in place for them. We feel very confident that with our plan your company will become more eco-friendly and will also save money on fuel. The (company name) has tested multiple fuels and have concluded that Solazyme algae fuel is the cheapest, most environmentally friendly, and best choice for FedEx. Both, compressed natural gas and hydrogen powered engines, were more expensive and produced more harm to the atmosphere than Solazyme fuels. Overall by FedEx choosing to go with this plan, it has a chance to be an innovator of the delivery industry and no other company has tried to implement this kind of fuel into their business. This presents some benefits to the company...

...Transmittal letters often accompany reports and inform readers of a report's context. Typically, the letter includes information not found in the report. For example, the letter contains information about the particular project and/or due dates. A Transmittal Letter is a business letter and should be formatted accordingly; that is, you should include the recipient's address, your address, a salutation and closing. Depending on the project, you may also need to include contact information. Always check with your instructor to determine whether or not you should attach a transmittal letter to your report. In Finance, a Letter of Transmittal is a document used by a security holder to accompany certificates surrendered in an exchange or other corporate action. A Letter of Transmittal may also be a distribution list with the recipients of a memo, report or contract. A transmittal letter accompanies a document and explains what the document is, why it should receive the reader's consideration, and what the reader should do with it. A transmittal or cover letter accompanies a larger item, usually a document. The transmittal letter provides the recipient with a specific context in which to place the larger document and simultaneously gives the sender a permanent record of having sent the material. Transmittal letters are usually brief. The first paragraph describes what is being sent and the purpose for sending it. A longer transmittal letter may summarize key elements...

...B. Subsidiary idea to II C. Subsidiary idea to II III. MAIN IDEA It is up to the writer to decide on how many main ideas and supporting ideas adequately describe the subject. However, if there is a I in the outline, there has to be a II; if there is an A, there has to be a B; if there is a 1, there has to be a 2, and so forth. ...Module 24: Long reports are not used often. When organizing these reports you should think about what you’re going to write. The bibliography can form the first draft of your Work Cited. Save the interview questions for your appendix. Make sure you save all documents and write down all necessary information down. As soon as you know what you’re writing, start the title page and transmittal. Prepare your conclusion, than edit your first draft. The title page contains four things: 1. The title of the report 2. Whom the report is prepared for 3. Whom it is presented by 4. The release date The letter of transmittal tells whom the report was authorized by and its purpose. It gives a basic summary, it helps explain how problems were solved, thanks the readers, and opens the floor for questions. Executive summaries briefly describe methods. The conclusion summarizes the body of the report. Recommendations tell us the actions that were taken and give rationale. The format we should use is PAIBOC. 24.2- In order to decide whether to write a memo or letter of transmittal you should use a memo if you’re a regular employee preparing the report and a letter if you are not. 24.4- The executive summary is the summary that tells the reader what the document is about. 24.5- To decide what heading to use in the body of a report is to mark those that are most important. The heading grabs attention and starts the topic. Make it strong and...

...aAPPLICATION CONTROLS Application controls are programmed procedures designed to deal with potential exposures that threaten specific applications, such as payroll, purchases, and cash disbursements systems. Application controls fall into three broad categories: input controls, processing controls, and output controls. Input Controls Input controls at this stage are designed to ensure that these transactions are valid, accurate, and complete. Data input procedures can be either source document-triggered (batch) or direct input (real time). Source document input requires human involvement and is prone to clerical errors. Some types of errors that are entered on the source documents cannot be detected and corrected during the data input stage. Dealing with these problems may require tracing the transaction back to its source (such as contacting the customer) to correct the mistake. Direct input, on the other hand, employs real-time editing techniques to identify and correct errors immediately, thus significantly reducing the number of errors that enter the system. Classes of Input Control a. Source Document Controls. Careful control must be exercised over physical source documents in systems that use them to initiate transactions. Source document fraud can be used to remove assets from the organization. In the absence of other compensating controls to detect this type of fraud, the system would create an account payable and subsequently write a check in payment...
