Joshua of old declared, “Choose you this day whom ye will serve; BUT as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Dear Family: The bible declared that Behold I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: I must say without notice..I had a choice whether to remain down here in this land of discomfort or whether to receive my transition in a Land that begins a NEW LIFE for me….Family at this time I do apologize But as God (with his gracious and good self) extended his “UNMISTAKEN” hands to my NEW 20/20 vision eyesight to snatch me up out of my bed of affliction……I begin to look back over the years….and as I reflected back over the years…. I thought about OUT of ALL I been through… “MY joy still remained.” I love you but my God loves me more….so at this time may I PLEASE be excused? Excused from perseverance (throughout the years) tormoiling with much sickness, kidney dialysis, being pushed around in a wheel chair, Aided daily, living a short term lifestyle in a Nursing Home, being cut on surgery after surgery after surgery…may I please be excuse!!! Even though…..inspite of …under the contrary ONCE AGAIN….the devil is ONCE again defeated…I’ll Always Win!!! During this season in time everyone is celebrating the 2013 Graduates…I too celebrate my graduation….I apologize…I didn’t have time to hand you a written invitation BUT here is my verbal invitation: Commencement Exercise convened at 4:37 p.m. Monday afternoon (with or without you) at The Transitional Nursing Home (room 208) for the FORMER Ms. Amanda Little-Wright {yes..former}(because to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord). Graduating Magnum Cum Laude of enduring hardship as a good soldier. When God descended last Monday 37 minutes after the hour of 4 p.m. ….I transcended! When I crossed over….I discovered I had a NEW body! Before I took my last breath and my heart gave up its last fight…God whispered ..reassuring me “I come to do a NEW thing” Yes…family as he proceeded with the invocation saying “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter NOW thou into the joy of thy Lord” he concluded my earthly dismissal preparing me for eternal life saying “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever…” that’s when I HEARD the chains falling….so (go ahead be my guest) pick them up and give them to somebody else because I’M FREE!!!!!!! And who the Son has set free….he is truly FREE indeed. So…please don’t worry…fret not…It’s alright NOW!!!! I’m Freeeee!!!!! So Family….it would be most fitting right here….at this time..in celebration of the her life….to give the “former” Amanda Little –Wright a standing ovation because old things have passed away behold ALL things become new….To God Be The Glory for The Things He Has Done!

Book Report on Hunger Games and How It Relates to Society

...someday face a world similar to Panem? That this fiction could someday become a reality on certain levels? Within these novels, Collins includes several important themes, including: corrupt politics, starvation vs. greed, and the obsession with entertainment. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen lives in the nation of Panem, a post-apocalyptic North America, with her mother and younger sister, Prim. Her family resides in District 12, the poorest of 12 districts ruled by the wealthy Capitol. Katniss provides for her mother and sister by hunting with her friend Gale in the forbidden woods nearby. As punishment for the districts' rebellion attempt years earlier, the Capitol holds an annual televised event called The Hunger Games. Each district must draw the names of a boy and girl between the ages of 12 and 18. These 24 youths become contestants, called tributes, who must fight to the death in a vast arena created by the Capitol Gamemakers. The lone survivor returns home to wealth and fame. One year, on the day of reaping, Prim's name is drawn. Katniss volunteers to take her sister's place. The other tribute is Peeta Mellark, a baker's son who once saved Katniss' family from starvation by sneaking them bread. Guards put Katniss and Peeta on a train for the Capitol. Haymitch Abernathy, their trainer, accompanies them. He is the only District...

Hunger Games Pop Culture Anaysis

...Games trailer begins with Katniss Everdeen sneaking through the barbed-wire fences that gate in her town. She runs off to meet her handsome guy friend, Gale, (so he may be handsome and a “guy” but this is a bit informal. Handsome is subjective, right? So we would probably want to describe him as merely her “male” friend) where they go on to talk about running away from their confined homes to live in the woods together and no longer be under the power or their (?) “rulers”. The trailer then shows their town (District 12) gathering for the picking of the tributes who will be involved in the next annual Hunger Games. While there, Katniss assures her little sister, Primrose, that her name cannot be drawn because it is only in twice. Sure enough, Primrose’s name is called and Katniss comes to the rescue to volunteer as tribute in place of her sister. After Katniss is picked, a boy named Peeta Mellark is also chosen to be a tribute. They are then taken away on a train and the trailer shows their parts of their journey as they prepare to go into the arena and fight to the death against 23 other children. And finally, the trailer ends with Katniss rising out of the ground into the arena as a voice counts down the seconds until the cannon goes off and the hunger games (not capitalized here, but is elsewhere – make consistent across the paper) officially begins. The genre of this trailer can be classified as action or adventure as the storyline follows a...

Hunger Games and Social Psyhcology

...devastation to the districts and caused the Capital to create the Hunger Games as a reminder to all that the Capital rules with absolute power. The Hunger Games are an annual event that causes one boy and one girl from each district to be selected to fight in an area to the death until one lone tribute remains. It is barbaric and nothing less than a way to promote fear and regulation over the people of the districts. The game and the events involved throughout the movie are consumed with social psychology, kin selection, reciprocity and flight and fight are just a few social psychology concepts that are present in the movie. Katniss does in fact go on to win the games and it was made possible by her use of several social psychology concepts. In the early scenes of the movie they show that Katniss is very much the head of her family and that she is the one that makes sure her family has food. In addition to that, she has been the force keeping her mother and sister alive and well since the untimely death of her father. In the early scenes you watch as the people of district twelve prepare for the annual reaping (selection of tributes), Katniss and her sister Primrose are both possible tributes. Primrose is completely frightened and anxious over being picked; Katniss assures her that everything will be okay. As the reaping begins and the names are drawn Primrose is in fact selected, she is beside...

If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena in order to survive and come out on top At first I thought that this movie would pass and after looking deeper into it it actually passed the test towards the very beginning of the movie. The movie has many women involved, and they also all talk to each other. One example that passes is when Katniss talked to her mother about staying strong and not to give up on her younger sister before she left. Katniss also talks to her younger sister primrose just before she is taken away to the games about staying strong and not to worry about her. The Hunger Games

...home to the Meadow and, finally, to the woods, where people of the district are forbidden to go, we learn about Katniss' life in the impoverished part of her district, the Seam, and her family. She thinks about her sister Prim, who is 4 years younger, and her mother, both of whom have depended upon Katniss for survival ever since Katniss' father died in a mine explosion when she was 11. The reaping is a nerve-wracking time because it determines which boy and girl, ages 12 to 18, will serve as the district's tributes in the Hunger Games. Two tributes are drawn in each of the 12 districts, and those tributes are sent to an arena where they fight until only one tribute remains alive. The victor gets to return home, and the victor's district is showered with gifts — namely food. The Games, put on by the Capitol, are meant to punish the 12 districts of Panem as well as to remind them of the Dark Days and how the 13th district was obliterated for its uprising against the tyrannical and cruel Capitol. Against all odds, Prim's name is selected at the reaping. Katniss volunteers to take the place of her younger sister and becomes District 12's girl tribute for the 74th Hunger Games. Peeta Mellark, a boy Katniss' age and the son of the baker, is selected as the other tribute. She remembers Peeta and the kindness he demonstrated toward her when they were children, giving her a burnt piece of bread so that she wouldn't starve. Peeta's selection doesn't bode well for Katniss, who feels...

Feminism in the Hunger Games

...Abstract: This essay focuses on the feminist criticism and the gender roles in key characters of The Hunger Games trilogy. It evaluates the purpose of Suzanne Collins' use of breaking down gender roles and how that shapes the character outside that character's own gender. Themes of survival and humanity are explored and evaluated, putting a specific emphasis on how those themes correspond with gender roles. Both females and males are examined; first in the Hunger Games universe, and then applied to the twenty first century stereotypes of gender roles. All the novels in the trilogy— The Hunger Games (2008), Catching Fire (2009), and Mockingjay (2010)— as well as a criticism from Kristi Tyson, author of Modern Literary Theory of Sexes (2011). The essay explores the question of whether gender is a determining factor of what makes a strong character. Through the research and analysis of the pieces, the essay resolves that Collins actually by-passes gender roles, focusing more on a character's ability to adapt to both gender stereotypes in order to have a well rounded understanding of society. Genders are not the determining factor of a strong character, because gender roles do not matter in the long run of being a human being in general. Theseus And The Monotar By Katniss

...The author of The Hunger Games is Suzanne Collins. She lives in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. The reason she wrote this book was to write a story based on the myth of Theseus and the Monotaur. The theme of The Hunger Games is survival. A better theme would be doing something completely out of you way to help the people you love. “Katniss, the girl who was on fire!” and “ I volunteer as tribute…” are two sentences from the story that supports the two themes I chose. I enjoyed the book because it showed how much Katniss cared for her sister, family, and society when she volunteered as tribute. She did it so her younger sister did not have to participate in The Hunger Games. I liked that Peeta and Katniss ended up being ‘smarter’ than the gamekeepers...

Katniss the Provider

...Name Teacher English IV 29 April 2013 Katniss the Provider Katniss Everdeen has quickly become famous heroine. She had a large amount of factors that helped her win the hunger games. Her role as a provider in her family helped her in many ways. Not only did she have the knowledge to be able to thrive, and survive in the wild; she also knew she had to win the games to return to district twelve, and protect her sister, Primrose Everdeen, and their mother. Since her father died when she was the age of twelve, she knew that she would have to take his place in the family. Before he died her father taught her all he knew about hunting. This is where she received all of her skills (SparkNotes Editors). Katniss’ role in her family was just as a father would be. She was the provider, caretaker, and essentially the backbone of the family. Katniss would hunt and gather food to either feed her family or sell to earn money. With her being a hunter, she had amazing archery skills. This gave her a huge advantage in the games (Bethune 1). This allowed her to get food for herself. Also, with her knowledge of nature, she knew what was edible and what was not edible (Bethune 1). This saved her and Peeta from eating poisonous berries, unlike their counter-parts who lost their life this way. So in a way, she was also a provider for Peeta. Since Katniss and Peeta were from the same District, they had a naturally formed bond, or alliance. Alliances also played a huge role in helping Katniss...
