North Korea was sanctioned by the United Nations because of their nuclear test programs in 2006 and since then, the relationships had been worsening, with the States again charging North Korea’s Kim Jong Un of heinous crimes against its own population and more. Both Russia and North Korea have been left in isolation and it seems that both the countries were in need of a remarkable alliance. The countries have announced that they will deepen economic and political ties starting from this year; their ‘year of friendship’ (McCurry). An official North Korean news agency said that the countries would “develop bilateral relations on to a new higher stage in various fields including politics, economy and culture under a mutual agreement”. The plan is to use a peaceful routine to soften up Kim Jong Un and also to keep peace between North Korea and the U.S. So the plan is to use the method is to use the non-violence strategy. What I think about this is that I think this might work because other people or one person has tried the non-violence method and has had multiple results either positive or negative. If the results were negative, I think that would help because they can learn from the reaction and use another way to use a peaceful method to reunite with North Korea. If the results is positive then the South Koreans can feel like they have made some progress of finally reuniting with North Korea. The book does highlight some difficult problems that are facing not just the US but the world as a whole.
