Abstract Recent techniques and shifts in the environment are often foreseen as leading management accountants to adopt a business orientation. However, empirical evidence pointing to fundamental shifts in the roles played by management accountants remains relatively scarce. We explore this paradox and give sense to the various roles played by the management accounting function by focusing on how management accountants are involved in and endowed with authority in decision-making situations. Using data we gathered from 73 interviews in ten multinational companies, we identify four styles adopted by the management accounting function: the discrete, the safeguarding, the partner, and the omnipotent management accounting functions. We show that each style can be associated with a specific role: discrete control of managerial behaviour, socialisation of managers, facilitation of decision-making, and centralisation...

...Nursing is a diverse and dynamic profession, with many layers that influence how care is ultimately delivered. This paper will explore some of these influences, and outline a Professional Nursing Mission Statement, with a keen look at nursing organizations, ethics, accountability, and professional practice. Mishel’s Theory of Uncertainty in Illness will be explained as a support to the mission statement and support of my personal professional practice. Additionally, two personal anecdotes will be shared regarding the ethical principles of respect for autonomy and beneficence. Functional Difference between Regulatory Agency and Professional Nursing Organization The major functional difference between a regulatory agency like a board of nursing and professional nursing organization is that a regulatory agency governs the education and licensing of nurses; actual nurse practices on the job, and discipline if the nurse falls short of governing practices (National Coumcil of State Boards of Nursing, 2015). The rules and regulations enacted by the board of nursing, after public review, “have the full force and effect of law.” (National Council Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act 2) In contrast, a professional nursing organization is comprised of voluntary groups of nurses which provide educational opportunities, share information, and promote the profession. (Matthews, 2012) According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing website, each state board of nursing...

...and the Networks Governance Structure in Tanzania: Literature Review and Research Issues Lettice Rutashobya Issack Allan Faculty of Commerce and Management, University of Dar es salaam P.O Box. 35046 Dar es salaam, Tanzania Tel: 255 741 323661, 255 22 2410221 Fax: 255 22 2410510 Email: Lettice@fcm.udsm.ac.tz Jan-Erik Jaensson Umea University school of Business Administration and Economics, Sweden Jan-Erik.Jaensson@fek.umu.se Abstract This paper reviews the networks and the IMP literature to inform research on the network phenomenon in small and medium enterprises in Tanzania. It is noted that while a lot of work in this area has been done in Western Industrialized countries, little by way of serious research has been undertaken in Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries. The role of networks in enterprise development and growth in these countries remains unexplored and therefore unclear. It is argued here that research on networks needs to be contextualized if it is to gain currency. Integrating the networks and the IMP perspectives this paper identifies three crucial areas relevant for future research in Tanzania: viz, the network-performance nexus, female versus male networks and social networks. Introduction The main purpose of this paper is to provoke research on networks in Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Tanzania. We integrate the networks, IMP and entrepreneurship literature to justify research in this area. In the entrepreneurship literature networks have been identified...
