...The Attica Prison riot occurred on September 8, 1971 at the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York. Prisoners started the riot due to demands for better living conditions as well as responding to the death of a black radical activist prisoner who had been shot to death by corrections officers in California's San Quentin Prison in August 1971. About 2,200 inmates rebelled and seized control of the prison, taking 33 staff hostage. Prison officials continued negotiations with the inmates for 4 days. The prisoners continued to unsuccessfully negotiate with Correctional Services Commissioner Russell G. Oswald and then later with a team of observers that included Tom Wicker, an editor of the New York Times, James Ingram of the Michigan Chronicle, state senator John Dunne, state representative Arthur Eve, civil rights lawyer William Kunstler, Minister Louis Farrakhan, National Representative of the Nation of Islam and others. (The Attica Uprising, 2013) Authorities finally agreed to 28 of the prisoners' demands, however they would not agree to complete amnesty from criminal prosecution for the prison takeover or for the removal of Attica's superintendent. Finally the Governor Nelson Rockefeller ordered state police to overtake the prison and take back control. As a result of this tactic at least 39 people were dead, including ten correctional officers and civilian employees. (The Attica Uprising, 2013) On September 5, 1972, eight members of the Palestinian terrorist...

Two reading and/or language arts skills I could focus on to assist Teddy learn more effectively in the classroom include teaching Teddy several sight words as such as “again,” “find,” “first,” “second,” “third,” “write,” “just,” etc. This skill will build his vocabulary and allow him to recognize these words all throughout the classroom. UNIT 8 ASSIGNMENT The other skill I could implement into the classroom to assist Teddy is creating a connection between image and description. This would be done with flashcards. This will develop his spelling, link pictures with descriptions and create a connection for Teddy to see what is what, how it is spelled, and what color it may be. With these skills, Teddy will be able to speak, read,...

...Unit 8 Analysis – System Performance NT. 1110 | System Performance The performance of a computer system is based on numerous factors. The CPU, GPU (video card processor), RAM, VRAM, and hard drives all have some impact on how well a computer system performs. With the continuous use of hard drives, fragmentation occurs. This occurs when files cannot be contiguously stored. Basically, files are broken down and scattered around the hard drive. The computer than has to provide extra work to reassemble the files when needed. This effectively slows computer performance, making applications launch slower, accessing files more time-consuming, video performance drop, and more. Also, the computer booting and shutting down takes more time with disk fragmentation. One of the ways to improve system performance is to upgrade RAM. When a computer does not have enough RAM to use, it has set up a virtual memory file. The virtual memory file is space on the hard drive the computer makes to treat as RAM. Also, with RAM being an electronic system as opposed to the mechanical hard disk, it takes more time for data transfer to happen between the RAM and hard drive, unlike the RAM and CPU. With adding more RAM, “running” out of usable RAM memory has a small chance of occurring. This means that the CPU can continue to interact with the RAM for temporary files, rather than having to interact with the RAM then the hard drive. References Computer Memory Upgrade. (2003). Memory...

...By putting in diegetic but acousmatic ambient sounds in the beginning we introduce the viewer into the environment where the scene takes place. Crickets and other insects suggest that the scene is taking place close to nature which is also reinforced by the palm trees and other plants in the background of the first scene. The space is further characterized when the man approaches Paula. The audience can hear someone approaching from the left (the footsteps pan from left to centre, which should be noticeable even on bad smartphone earphones or speakers in our modern times) and as such it should not be surprising to see a hand enter the screen shortly after. There are no more diegetic sounds after this point to allow the audience to focus on what is happening on the emotional level. The man gets Paula to get up in order to kiss her. This coincides with the piano and the violin swapping roles. The piano now plays the melody while the violin stays in the background and accompanies the piano. The melody is less sad now as well. The text then reveals the apparent intentions of the man which comes with a change of instrumentation to exclusively using bow string instruments (Torn Apart). The emotions of the protagonist have changed and the music follows. The romantic theme, without the sad connotation this time (because the proposal cheers her up), is kept until the point when the woman takes a step back and looks the man into the eyes. At this point the music becomes quite independent...

...Unit 8 Analysis 1: System Performance A file system on your computer may be fragmented, and cause the whoel system to take te bottleneck effect into play. Usually disk fragmentation is one of the most overlooked but common problems of a slow system, and even with a brand new, fast system, a fragmented disk drive can make it extremely slow. It will become most noticeable when loading large files like movies, not even moving them, just streaming from you rhard drive can cause your system to have performance issues. Some database files may be large in file size as well and can be seen as aproblem with a fragmented disk. Over time with using the large files you will see a performance degradation cause by disk fragmentation. When a hard drive is formatted into sectors, each e=sector is assigned 512 bytes of data, which then whichever file system you are running will depend on how these sectors are grouped into clusters. A cluster is the smallest unit of space to hold a single file, and on NTFS disks, the cluster size depends on the overall size of the hard drive. When the system has a brand new hard drive and you save a file onto it, the adjacent clusters are free of space and those spaces are filled in order respectively, which makes it easier on the hard drive to access these clusters to retrieve the file, and the mechanical components work more efficiently and improve the life of the overall hard drive. Over time with deleting and saving different files, th files that are...

...NT1110 Unit 8: Analysis System Performance Slow or sluggish system performance can be frustrating. There can be one or more things causing the slowdown of performance. Too many processes running in the background is only one issue of many possible reasons why the performance is sluggish. Virus, worms, and malware is another reason that can take up system resources and severely slow down a computer. By taking the necessary steps, one can improve the system performance of a computer. First one can perform routine maintenance like defragging a hard drive, cleaning up a hard drive. Checking the hard drive for errors and uninstalling unwanted programs will keep the Performance optimal. Checking for hardware and software compatibility and dealing with those issues will greatly enhance system performance. If there is a compatibility issue, address the issue and see an improvement. Address all system warnings that the OS alerts you too. One can resolve an issue by simply clicking on the warning popup window to help address the issue. Check the reliability and performance monitor. This feature in windows vista keeps a record of all past performance records and one can see when the problem started to have issues. One can accurately pinpoint the program or hardware that was installed when performance issues started happening. Disabling Windows Search indexer, vista aero interface, and vista sidebar will speed up your computers system performance. Those programs use up...

...Optimizing Printed Circuit Board Production: A Case Study Abstract This paper focuses on the production of 5 different printed circuit boards (PCBs). The purpose of this paper is to understand the best production model to reach maximum profit. It is understood that there are production capacities that will limit the overall amount of products produce. Through the use of Linear Programming we can determine, based on the current circuit boards sale price, the number of each board type the plant needs to produce. It can also be determined which production capacity would need to be increased in order to increase production numbers. In addition, this paper will look at how the production schedule will alter based on customer demands and changes in sales price. Optimizing Printed Circuit Board Production A Case Study ABC Electronics is a manufacturer of printed circuit boards and there is 5 different types the company produces. The Company wants to use Linear Programming to find the best production schedule to maximize profits. For each circuit board (A5464, A2668, G3897, Z9794 and L8687) the company has determined what the profit is for each board type. The profit was calculated by subtracting the material, labor and overhead costs from the selling price (see Appendix A. Individual Profit line). It was also determined the producing minutes for each board during all steps of the process (Laminating, Drilling, Plating, Etching, and Wiring) and the capacity in minutes each...

...branch applies micro economic analysis. We can apply the principles of Economics in taking decisions related to some problems like scale of operation, quantum of resources to be employed, marketing etc. Because of the scarcity of the resources it is not possible to have whatever we want. To get the better value from limited resources it is essential to evaluate the difference between the total cost and the total benefits of any activity. To choose the better option one of the tools provided by the managerial economics is marginal analysis. By weighing the marginal benefits against the marginal costs one can take the best decision. Marginal Costs- Marginal cost is the change in total cost when one more unit is produced. Marginal cost occurs when an activity increases by one unit. When the firm increases its production the total cost always increases even though the marginal costs may not rise. Rise in marginal costs is shown in the below chart. Following table shows the total cost and the marginal cost by making pizza: Quantity Total Cost Marginal Cost 0 0 -- 1 5 5 2 10 5 3 17 7 4 25 8 5 34 9 6 44 10 7 58 14 8 73 15 9 90 17 10 110 20 (MARGINAL ANALYSIS) Marginal Benefits- Marginal benefit is change in total benefit when one more unit is produced or when an activity increases by one unit. Change in revenues when a firm sells one more unit of good, is known as marginal revenue. Change in total satisfaction by consuming one more unit of a good is known as marginal...

...Linear Algebra Applied to Economics Input-Output Analysis Introduction: There are several non-mathematical subjects that linear algebra can be applicable too. Economics is a topic that linear algebra can be used to make a formal application, for example in Input-Output Analysis, econometrics, Game theory, and break-even point analysis. As a group we are going to be focusing on the Input-Output analysis, a type of analysis created for the purpose of describing and making predictions of complicated mathematical models using systems of linear equations. It was established by “W. Leontief, who won the 1973 Nobel Prize in Economics” (Hefferon, p.60). In this paper, mathematical and linear algebra formulas, calculations, graphs, diagrams, pictures, etc., will be clearly shown as to further understand the applicability of linear algebra in economics. Calculations and mathematical examples used in economics will be provided in the context of this paper for better understanding. Also, terms and notations used will be explained, derivation and origin of mathematical results will be shown. Definitions: Economics is a branch of knowledge concerned with the production, distributions, and consumption of goods and services. Linear algebra is a branch of mathematics with the properties of finite dimensional vector spaces and linear mapping between the spaces. The equations are represented using matrices and vectors and consist of several unknowns. Econometrics is branch of economics...
