...silica dust exposure on construction projects. Studies show that when common construction work tasks involving the sanding, drilling, chipping, grinding, cutting, sawing, sweeping, and blasting of concrete and concrete products are conducted without using dust controls, workers are exposed to airborne silica concentrations at levels far above the occupational exposure limits. Long-term or heavy short-term exposures to airborne silica dust can cause a disabling, sometimes fatal lung disease called silicosis. Crystalline silica dust (e.g., quartz dust) is also a carcinogen. This guidance document is intended to assist employers to development an exposure control plan (ECP) that meets the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and protects workers from overexposure to silica dust. The document provides information on each of the required elements of an ECP, as follows: • What is silica? • Purpose of the ECP • Responsibilities • Risk identification, assessment, and control • Education and training • Safe work procedures • Health monitoring • Documentation Each section of this document includes text in boxes that helps explain the purpose of each part of the ECP and gives some guidance about the type of information to include in each section. DOI: 10.1089/cyber.2012.0321 How Facebook Might Reveal Users’ Attitudes Toward Work and Relationships with Coworkers Hui-Tzu Grace Chou, PhD, Ron J. Hammond, PhD, and Roberta Johnson, BS Abstract With the spread of Facebook among people in many countries, some companies have started using applicants’ Facebook profiles as a criterion of personnel selection, in an effort to identify good workers among job appli- cants. However, how using Facebook is connected to individuals’ relationships with coworkers and work attitudes is unclear. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between using Facebook, rela- tionships with coworkers, and some attitudes toward the current job. Undergraduate students at a state uni- versity in Utah were randomly chosen to participate in an online survey between April and May 2012. The results of a multivariate analysis, based on 516 currently employed respondents, revealed several findings. First, those more involved in using Facebook—often assumed as more people-oriented individuals—do not have better relationships with their coworkers than their counterparts. Second, those with more Facebook friends care less about their work performance than those with fewer Facebook friends. Third, those frequently update their Facebook profile like their current job less, and are more likely to think about changing their jobs, compared with those...

...Ethical Dilemmas On Social Work Practice Social Work Essay For this assignment I will explain personal values, prejudices, ethical dilemmas and the impact they have had on social work practice by reflecting on one of my beliefs and how I had to challenge myself to overcome it. Using Marxists and Feminists views of oppression I aim to identify, recognise, respect and value diverse individuals for which I will give an example of which happened to me and how I had to challenge discrimination towards others. I will also discuss theoretical frameworks to tackling oppression and discrimination by using the PCS model and how people can become empowered through groups, advocacy or legislation. Personal values, Prejudices, Ethical Dilemmas, Conflict of Interest and their impact on Social Work Practice A value is something that concerns someone or a belief they hold, this determines how a person behaves, values do not determine if something is said whether it is right or wrong in today’s society.
