Value and flow are the key concepts of Lean thinking (Hogan, Rasche and von Reinersdorff 2012). Values in healthcare are the activities that enhance the quality of healthcare and promote patient well-being so as to achieve better outcome. Therefore, in this research field, value is specifically seen from the patient's perspective and is created by eliminating waste (Han et al. 2007). Waste can be identified as any activities that do not help patients or move them further from cure (Storrow et al. 2008). One of the wastes in emergency departments is the time spent waiting; for example, the time spent waiting to be seen or waiting for the next treatment.
