I chose to volunteer for this particular campaign because it was something that was focused on our local community. Ashby is a family orientated woman who believes Sacramento’s most precious resource is its people. She is pushing for a safer and more vibrant city, while protecting families and developing local neighborhoods. Overall positivity for Sacramento. Section I: Volunteer Report Phone banking is one of the most efficient ways to get in contact with the community and inform them about issues and decisions that would be effecting them directly. So it would only make sense for a lesser known candidate running for mayor to pick up this strategy. Unlike the presidential elections, there isn’t really an accurate depiction of who has a certain number of voters supporting them. The purpose for Angelique’s phone banking operation was to get in touch with the community and notify them that she is a mayoral candidate. Also she wanted us to tally up how many citizens were confirming that they were going to vote for her, in an attempt to get an estimated number of supporters backing her during the election. ...The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) John Doe BUSI 526 October 1, 2011 The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Introduction The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits employers with 15 employees or more from discrimination on the basis of disability. The Act applies to all aspects of employment, including applications, hiring, training, discharge and compensation, among others (Dessler 2011). In 2008 the Act was amended creating the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. The amendment clarified the definition of disability and expanded coverage to impairments that limit routine life activities. Significantly, the amendment holds that adaptive aides and conditions that are in remission or are mitigated by medical therapy have no bearing on disability determination (USAB 2011). This paper will explore the origins of the ADA, its history, some of the controversies that surround it, new thinking about organizational theory and future trends. History of the ADA The ADA can be traced to the work of Frank and Lillian Galbreth, pioneers in organizational psychology and ergonomics. During the early 20th century this husband and wife team evaluated motion studies that were first done by Fredrick Taylor (Morgan 1998). ...Text Messaging: The Effects on Our Society A Report By: Blake Hogan, Emily Gilbert, Megan Leckington, and Chris Morris 1 Abstract: In today’s day and age, most everyone in our society has and uses a cell phone. Most of those who use cell phones also use the SMS text messaging that these phones feature. This study takes a look at some of the effects and potential problems arising from the use of this text messaging. A survey of students and instructors at Lane Community College found that 70% of those surveyed believed that texting had harmful effects on students writing skills. However, studies that were analyzed found that texting is actually beneficial. While 54% of teenagers text others on a daily basis only 33% of teenagers talk to others face-to-face, yet it is too early in research to draw a conclusion on whether texting is harmful to their social skills. Most people know that text messaging while driving is very dangerous, yet the studies analyzed as well as the surveys conducted show that some people are still willing to take that risk.
