In a couple of studies, researchers have shown that for many people, couple communication skills with each other aren’t as strong as they think they are. Sometimes what we say can easily be taken the wrong way. For example, my fiancé and I often have misconnections. I think it’s very easy to have miscommunication, or not understand exactly what someone is saying if you’re already not agreeing with someone. The biggest of our miscommunications come from text messaging; I’ve found that it’s easy to have miscommunication with my fiancé through text. I think it’s because when you read a text message from someone, you set the tone on what you are reading based on your mood. When I do find that there has been a miscommunication with him through text, I tend to know right away based on his response. After detecting the poor communication, I always make sure to call right away to clear up the misunderstanding and make sure we both are at least on the same page.
