Communication Channel Scenarios There are different ways to communicate. Weather is through a letter, by phone, a face to face conversation, or via e-mail. There is always an appropriate way to deliver a message. There are so many situations that can occur during the process. What’s important is the communication has different strengths and weakness. For the first scenario the appropriate communication channel that best suits the situation is a face to face communication. This communication channel allows developing a strategy in a short period of time. It allows everyone to know what the company really wants for the new project. However at the time to deliver to the Vice President, the correct communication channel to the VP is in a formal report and face to face. This is the right communication channel because the manager has to show formally and explained in words and steps how the strategy is going to be develop. For the second scenario the appropriate communication channel is by phone communication. The manager should call the IT department and ask for a new login and password for the eleven employees. Then the technical support will provide a new login and password. The appropriate communication channel is the telephone conversation because most of the time this issues can be resolve by the phone. They will provide a new login and password right away. To inform the employees the appropriate communication channel will be writing an email providing them the new login and password. This is the appropriate communication channel, is the best way to provide the new login and password. For the third the organization has a decision to make. Firing employees is often a difficult situation for the organization. In this scenario the appropriate communication channel is face to face and by letter. To avoid misunderstandings and confusion between employees

Communication Channels

...Communication Channel Scenarios Mike Flores Mgt/521 Management University of Phoenix Abstract Selecting the right communication requires thought when exercising how one will relay a message to a group, individual, or even a child. What they say will also require them to prepare how they communicate their message. There are challenges that can become “barriers that distort the clarity of the message” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg. 344). The benefit of communicating clearly is that it leaves no message unclear, no meaning unknown. Scenario I What communication channel will you use? When faced with a large task that will require many departments to communicate laterally with one another, the team should schedule a meeting. Achieving success will require the input of all departments, Sales, Operations, Advertising, Branding, Training, etc. Why is this channel the best choice in this situation? This channel provides face-to-face conversations to occur. Face-to-face communication provides the highest level of communication to occur. “Multiple information cues (words, postures, facial expressions, gestures, intonations), immediate feedback (both verbal and nonverbal) (Robbins & Judge, 2011, p. 358), give each team member the proper feedback. Also, “horizontal communication...

Management

...Communication Channels Scenario Talton Edmond Management/ 521 3/29/2012 Scenario I When implementing a specific communication channel, I would recommend downward communication. Downward communication is most effectively used by group leaders and managers communicating with an employee assigned goals, provide job instructions, and also points out problems that need attention. This communication channel can help the marketing manager be more efficient in setting strategic goals with the team members. It can also get her team motivated by her leadership and wisdom as she relates in detail the task at hand. To convey my strategy to the Vice President of Operations, I would use the upward communication channel. Upward communication is the best choice in the marketing manager situation. This type of communication is used to provide feedback to higher- up’s to inform them of progress towards goals, and relay current problems. For this scenario it would effectively help the marketing manager convey updates on the task that was set fourth. By using key headlines and phrases, the Vice President of Operations could better understand the progress of the team and implement changes if needed. Scenario II The communication channel that the manager of the travel agency should utilize is oral communication. Oral communication deals with either face to face or phone communication. .The manager can make an emergency phone call to the IT group and they can walk her through issue with...

In this scenario the author has to focus on the best way to communicate the information to the audience in a manner that is designed to fit the audience. The audience must be taken into consideration while focusing on how to present the information that needs to be displayed. Characteristics of Audience Any person that is giving a presentation, as the above scenario asked, must consider the characteristics of the audience that they will be talking to. The focus of the presentation must relate to the audience and be informative, relative and still interesting enough to retain the interest of the audience watching the presentation. An example would be the facts presented in the presentation. Numbers, the math involved, figures and so on will mean nothing to the audience if there isn’t enough information supporting the numbers. Communication Channel Scenarios

...Communication Channel Scenarios MGT/521 October 12, 2012 Communication Channel Scenarios The content of this paper will provide details involving communication channel scenarios, which channel is appropriate for the scene, and why the channel was chosen to convey the message. First, communication is a two-way process of reaching an understanding by which information is exchanged either informally or formally by means of a common system of signs, symbols, and behavior. Scenario 1 In scene one the vice president of operations has assigned the marketing manager the task of developing a marketing strategy introducing a new beverage that has done well in the United States for the global market. The marketing managers’ team has one week to develop a strategy. The most effective channel of communication for this scenario would be a downward channel of communication because the marketing manager will be communicating an assigned goal, instructions, a deadline, and details to the team members. The most effective medium that would be most engaging would be the use of electronic communication via video conference because the task has to be completed in one week, is a short notice meeting, and the team members may not be available at such short notice. A face-to-face, upward channel of communication would be appropriate when the marketing manager performs the marketing strategy presentation for the vice president of operations, as this channel will provide an outlet for questions...

Selecting the Right Communication Channel

...Selecting the Right Communication Channel Selecting the Right Communication Channel Scenario I: As a marketing manager, I should make telephone calls to inform all people in my marketing network inside the company and invite them to a face-to-face meeting and presentation provided by me to go through product details, marketing strategies and budgets needed for launching the new drink. Telephone calls are very high in richness and fast in time. The needed information ready to pass is too much and that’s why I choose this rich channel to be more effective. “Introduction of new products and services at an accelerated pace-all non routine messages high in ambiguity and requiring the use of channels that convey a large amount of information”. (Robbins & Judge, 2011, ebook format ch. 11). Scenario II: Both telephone call and e-mail will help effectively on communicating downward to IT manager. Because of the time, I need to be fast on the way of communication and telephone call will help me to solve the company problem as a decision maker. IT manager must reply my phone call by sending the new username and password through e-mail as a reference for sending to all 11 employees. All 11 employees not only check the company’s website to enter their username but also they need to check their e-mails first thing in the morning. Scenario III: “A model of media richness helps explain channel selection among managers.” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, ebook format ch. 11). This kind of...

Communicating in the Workplace

...Communicating in the Workplace R. John Campshure II BCOM/275 January 14, 2014 Barbi Brokhoff Communicating in the Workplace Communicating in the workplace. In this paper I will talk about two misunderstandings I have had and will explain my experiences. I will endeavor to identify the roles of the sender and receiver, what the message was, the channel that was being used, what the misunderstanding was, and how the misunderstanding could have been avoided. I will also explain what I learned about the communication process from this exercise and also what seemed to be the main cause of the misunderstandings. I had a customer the other day who was having difficulty getting her phone added to her car through Bluetooth. I had said I would help her but I just couldn’t seem to get her to understand what I was saying. It ended up taking a lot longer than it should have taken but I was able to help her in the end. In this situation I was the sender and my customer was the receiver. A voice channel was being used as well as a visual channel as I had to show her as well as describe to her the steps in the process. The misunderstanding was that she needed to have her Bluetooth turned on and she wasn’t very tech savvy. This all could have been avoided by slowing down and being more patient with her. I learned that not everyone is technologically smart and are just getting by but by slowing down and realizing this it is possible to teach anyone how to use anything. The second...

Communication Channel Scenarios

...Communication Channel Scenarios Dana R Guthrie Management/MGT 521 Chris Boling August 23, 2011 Scenarios Within the following pages are responses to certain scenarios and which communication channel is best. According to Robbins and Judge (2011), “There are two main forms of communication channels; oral communication and written communication.” Within the two forms of communication channels there are 10 different types; formal reports, memos and letters, prerecorded speeches, electronic mail, online discussion groups, voicemail, live speeches, telephone conversations, video conferences, and face to face conversations. Within the following three different scenarios, I will discuss which type of communication channel works best for each and provide a defense to each of the choses. Scenario #1 ‘The character is a marketing manager for a new beverage that has done remarkable well in the United States after its introduction, especially in sports arenas such as football and basketball. The vice president of operations charged you and your team to develop a strategy for entering this new beverage into the global market. You need to take this task back to your team, provide them with the product details, and get them started as quickly as possible because they only have one week to develop a strategy.’ The best communication channel available to interact with the team would be face-to-face conversations. I say this because the team has only one week to develop a presentable...

Communication Channels

...Communication Channels Dominick Pennella MGT/521 October 18, 2011 Jim Bingel Communication Channels Mediums for communicating information come in many different forms. Different scenarios, involving varying levels of message complexities, requires a dynamic approach to selecting the type of medium used to convey a message or “communication channel.” The proceeding paragraphs will breakdown three separate scenarios and choose which communication channel would best fit the situation: Scenario #1 In this scenario the VP of Operations has tasked me with developing a strategy to introduce a new beverage into the global market, and I only have 1 week to do so. I must also share this plan with my team and convey my message in a clear and concise manner. In this case, I would have to choose face-to-face communication. The main reason behind this choice is that the timeframe and complexity of the message I need to convey can in no way be fulfilled by alternate means, such as e-mail, IM or TM or even a phone conversation. A message of this magnitude must be in person, so that the use of body language and tone of voice can be utilized to convey urgency, motivation, and seriousness. My message also can be incredibly specific as to what my expectations are, by using physical examples, and possibly training my team. Face-to-face communication is the “richest” of communication methods, and will allow me to “convey a verbal message and receive a response in minimal...

Demonstrative Communication

...Communication is generally defined as the process of sending and receiving messages. There are several elements in the communication process: a sender or receiver of a message, encoding and decoding the, the message itself, the channel through which the message is sent/received, and the feedback associated with the message (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios, 2010). There are a number of channels through which to send and receive messages, such as verbal and written communication. However, an extremely important and effective way of communicating is through demonstrative communication. Demonstrative communication is non-verbal and unwritten communication and can be tremendously powerful. Though words are not exchanged, demonstrative communication can speak volumes through action, body language, facial expression, posture, eye contact, and physical contact. Even if someone is speaking, demonstrative communication can tell a completely different story than the words coming out of one’s mouth. For demonstrative communication to be effective, it should be in alignment with the intent of the message that is being delivered or received. When out of alignment, demonstrative communication can cause misinterpretation of messages and those messages’ intent. Demonstrative communication often precedes verbal communication. Clothing, a particular hair style, tattoos, piercings, and face makeup can send influential messages before words are ever exchanged (Cheesebro, O’Connor & Rios...

Communication Channels

...Title: Communication Channel Scenarios Sufia Jones University of Phoenix SCENARIO #1 Due to the urgency and immediate feedback needed in order to develop a strategy to expand globally; it is my recommendation that Oral Communication in the form of a face-to-face meeting be conducted between the Marketing Manager and his team. This form of communication will allow the team members the opportunity to brainstorm and exchange ideas in an effort to develop a step-by-step strategy. Once this strategy has been developed, the Marketing manager can convey this information to the Vice President by using Upward Communication. This form of communication is used when communicating and providing feedback to higher ups. In order to be effective, the Marketing manager must make good use of the Vice President’s time by establishing a detailed agenda with specific and relevant headlines that show step by step actions needed to obtain successful results. SCENARIO #2 In this scenario, employees at a travel agency are unable to login to a computer application used by all employees due to login and password issues. It is extremely important that this matter be resolved as quickly as possible in order to prevent lost of revenue that this issue could potentially cause. Therefore, it is my recommendation that Oral Communication via phone be used when contacting the IT department. This channel will provide they fastest means of conveying the problem and ensuring a speedy resolution...

...Evaluating and Selecting Communication Channels MGT/521 One of the most important characteristics of successful relationships is the use of effective communication. Effective communications are characterized by achieving both the successful transfer as well as the understanding of meaning of the information being communicated to the greatest degree possible (Robbins & Judge, 2011). Understanding the functions of communication and the elements of the communication process itself will maximize the probability that messages communicated will yield the highest degree of understanding of the intended meaning by the recipients. A critical element of the communication process that influences the degree of understanding of meaning as much as the formulation of the message itself is the communication channel selected for its delivery. The focus of this paper will be on evaluating and selecting a communication channel based on the nature and complexity of the message to be delivered. The selection of communication channels and the reasons for their selections in the following essay are based off the three Communication Channel Scenarios located on the student website. Evaluating and Selecting Communication Channels Scenario 1 As the Marketing Manager for a new beverage product that has done well in the United States, I’ve been directed by the Vice President of Operations to develop a strategy within one week to enter the product into the global market...

Communication

...message isn’t relayed effectively. Scenario I As the marketing manager, the best method to inform teammates of the new strategy would be written communication. The form of written communication that should be use to relay the message to teammates should be an email. An email will allow the marketing manager to get the message out immediately to the teammates. How quickly the message is relayed is very important because the team only has one week to come up with the strategy. If the team members have any type of questions, ideas, or concerns, after reading the email, the can then reply to the message. When conveying the strategy to the vice president, I would use oral communication. Having a face-to-face meeting with the vice president about the strategy will allow the marketing manager to convey the team’s strategy thoroughly. Once this information is presented, the vice president can then ask any questions he or she may have, as well as give his feedback on the strategy. Scenario II Login information is something that is very import to company employees. If this information isn’t available or working, technical assistance should be alerted immediately. The best method for contacting the IT Company would be verbal communication. Calling the IT Company, instead of emailing them, will let them know that this is something that is very important. After the issue is resolved, written communication would be the best channel of communication to inform employees...
