2. Written by Beryl Markham around late 1930’s. The exact date itself is unknown so I believe it was written during that time frame given the fact it was published 1942.
3. Beryl Markham, born Beryl Clutterbuck, was born in Ashwell, Rutland, England on October 26, 1902. Daughter of accomplished house trainer Charles Baldwin Clutterbuck and Clara Agnes Clutterbuck.

Beryl Markham - Beryl is the author of this memoir West with the Night. At the age of four she moved to British East Africa (Kenya) with her father. Markham was a Kenyan aviator, adventurer, racehorse trainer and author too. We know this when she set on her voyage to London to New York from east to west solo. She would hop on the opportunity to go and explore.
- Brave – When Beryl goes and seeks off to find a friend that went missing. She went on her own and went looking for him until she found him. But it was her bravery and determination that helped her know where he was.

Tom Black - One of Beryl Markham’s closest friends. Being a World War I pilot he knew how to fly pretty expertly and later on taught Beryl how to fly. He was a very great friend to Beryl, even though they had only been friends I have reason to think Tom meant a whole lot more to Beryl than just a friend. Returning from her trip from the U.S. Beryl heard about the news that Tom was killed during World War II in 1936.
- Helpful - Black helped Beryl learn how to fly. When Beryl wanted to know how to fly so she can see the vast plains of Africa. It was Black who taught her how to fly.

- The horses: To me the horse meant that it was her lifeline, her escape. She describes when she was younger how she grew up with them. Maybe she wanted to be around them to remind her of youth and childhood. And she felt she was nurturing them as a way to keep that alive in that sense.
- The boar attacking her dog: When her dog was attacked

9. Imagery:
- Her flight from East to West: Her voyage marked an important parts of her life. It is then when her whole life changes. On chapter 23 her chapter title is West with the Night here she talks about her voyage. Some may say for the better or those it stayed the same. When she made her voyage to the west many things happened that altered that flight. At the beginning she was uneasy whether she should embark on this trip. Towards the end this journey changed her to a positive
